Despite that striker not scoring in any of the play off games, and Wilson only conceded 1 in 3 games, and that goal was due to a defensive error.

@Ccfcisparks I wonder if a sub pole could be created along the lines of "would you be happy with Wilson as number 1 until January" as that's the reality of the situation as I don't really mind him playing against Hull, but that's not really the full picture.

Not quite what I said.
My point was that Collins at his best is significantly better than Wilson, whilst also saying that Collins can be absolutely terrible when his confidence goes.
An ok Wilson wasn’t going to get us promoted. The Collins of winter/early spring 24/25, if he could have performed like that again, might of made a real difference. Was the best keeper in the league at the point in terms of making saves, and he’s also good with his feet.
If you want a very average keeper for a sustained period, Wilson is your man. Won’t do a lot right, won’t do a lot wrong.
Collins can be exceptional, and also absolutely shite

Even in the Luton game recently, he made 7 saves before the howler. Wilson has never managed 7 saves in a game at any point of his career

Mentally for his good he needs to go. There’s no way back now.

Ability aside the presence and confidence of a keeper can have a huge impact on the team as a whole. Collins looks petrified and ponderous. Only able to perform in the split second no thought scenario. Wilson looks confident and in control. It makes a difference
But Wilson’s positioning is very suspect

Collins wasn’t even first choice at Barnsley at the time we signed him, I don’t understand who thought that would be a good decision.
Surely this wasn’t another Adi recommendation was it?

Sporting made a huge mistake
I’m just pointing out that we’ve done ok with Wilson in net, and that you can’t fluke your way to 22 clean sheets in a season. I’d prefer a better keeper but if Wilson is in net I don’t think it’s the disaster some are saying.
The stats show he’s a ok keeper for the level but has v poor distribution, hence why Robins and Lampard have favoured other keepers.

Yeah I think it's obvious Collins has a higher ceiling than Wilson. Which is why I could see him starting if he stays here.
But it's mental with him and only he can resolve that

Ability wise he’s better but as you said, he seems to collapse mentally after a small mistake. Wilson was clearly 3rd choice keeper so it’s always possible Collins starts as number #1 if they think they can sort him out.

What scares me is if Wilson gets injured again after the transfer window closes. We need some kind of insurance policy against being dragged into a relegation battle. I'd prefer Dovin on one leg to Collins.

Dovin already out. If Wilson has a reoccurrence of his injury last season we would have Collins and Bell. All I really know about Bell is he played 45 minutes and was at fault for one of the goals. He hasn't got the experience you would want for a Championship side but I would still put him in before Collins.

What's the point in making 7 saves if you go to pot for the last 10-15 minutes, eventually dropping a clanger?
And that's on top of his other piss poor performances prior to that.

A cardboard cut out of Dovin would be better than Collins.
If we dont bring in another keeper before the season starts I think it's fair to say we arnt going to try for automatic promotion (if that was ever a realistic option)
