WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP GOING ON ABOUT HIS FIRST TOUCH, FFS!

Liam Kelly blasted a pass at him from five yards last night and all around me... "FFS, Simms!". Nutters.

He has to take the ball under more pressure than any other position on the pitch either in a 433 or 352.

His first touch is leading to goals. Are people just scarred by some ropey games earlier in the season?

Wright tried to tackle himself a few times last night and I don't remember Simms doing the same thing.
He can't trap a bag of cement, a bag of sharp sand nor a bag of building sand.
Cracking hat trick though. Credit where it's due .

I know it's funny and all, but people should be genuinely worried the relationship between Simms and the fans has been permanently damaged, due to abuse thrown at him throughout the season. He did that one shushing celebration again Bristol, and honestly since has barely bothered celebrating.

That's not actually his style, if you look back at his time at Blackpool, Hearts, and Sunderland. I don't think he likes the fans, and I don't particularly think he really wants to be here either.
The fans have treated him pretty shit just because he didn’t set the league alight. If I was him I’d have one eye on an exit looking for somewhere I was wanted.

He’s done a load of really deft lay offs though so it’s not ‘touch’. It’s strange. I was saying to some lads around me, you don’t make it as a pro if you can’t control the ball. Having said that I don’t know what’s causing it. Maybe not shielding the ball well enough/positioning his body correctly so defenders are getting a foot in or kicking his foot. Needs to use his backside more (so to speak) to keep a great distance between defender and his legs/feet. This stuff can be coached

Agreed. His work rate was good against Rotherham. Laid the ball off well.

How will he know if the fans want him ?

I can't for one minute believe he is looking to move, certainly not for such reasons. I wouldn't want any player with such a temperament near the team anyway.

I have never seen fans turn on him at matches, unlike some other players. I am not on twitter so have no idea what has been said but my impression is anyone gets abuse on there. I can't believe a player would leave somewhere due to what a few idiots put in twitter.

I think it's fair to say that there are a number of this seasons new recruits that need some work doing on them.

I want to see Simms succeed and become a better player (as with all our signings) but there's just something that makes me think that he isn't going to be able to make that next step up and be a top striker.

Same goes for Wright.

My point is simply that if he was lacking confidence - an important commodity for strikers in particular - giving him abuse is likely to make things worse.

We need to get behind our players and support them if we are going to get the best out of them.
I will get behind them even if they are missing sitters, i wont get behind them if they are strolling around half arsed.

I think you're wrong, personally. He does not celebrate goals here like he did at previous clubs, and there's no reason for that change. I think he's playing for his career, his teammates, and the management, but I don't believe he's playing for the fans.

He still gets a lot of shit, by the way.
I think you are probably right, but I also think if he can maintain his improved performances the fans will get behind him and all will be well. I don't think there is neccessarily any permanent damage done. I can't think of any examples ATM but I think there will be plenty of similar instances where fans and players have changed their relationship.

I hope you're right. I think he's a great lad, and a hardworking individual, and I'd like him to have a good career at the club. In terms of changes in relationship, I was thinking of Matty Godden. A previously great relationship which seems to have really soured recently. I understand that football's emotional from a fans point of view, and at the end of the week you just want to see your team perform, but I wish fans took a little more care of what they say about players online. It's one thing to say a player hasn't performed, but usually it turns personal and ugly. I honestly believe it's extremely rare that a professional footballer has the attitude that they just won't put the effort in, it would be detrimental to their career, so attacking a player is unreasonable and unhelpful.

Really? Why do you think he did the "shushing" celebration against Brizzle?

Must admit I don't really take much notice of player celebrations and others do this too no? It may just be those around me but I have never seen/heard anything negative towards Simms at matches unlike Wright and a few others. Personally I hate it when fans get onthe back of any of our players. The treatment of Dasilva against Preston was awful.

We have scored more goals than last year ?
It is interesting that when the strikers weren't scoring much it was all the fault of the midfield according to some people. Now we're scoring a lot it's all because of the strikers. I still don't think Eccles, Sheaf and yes Kelly get the credit they often deserve.

I hope he isn’t looking to move I was more saying, in response to someone else, that I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d seen some of the stick he gets on here .

What about the stick Godden gets? I’d be seriously concerned if it bothers him

Didn’t his celebration after scoring against Oxford make it quite clear it bothers him?

What’s a top striker?

Simms and Wright definitely look like players that can contribute to a team in the top 2/6. They’ve both suffered from chopping and changing formations/personnel this season and are still on to get 12-15 goals each. Give them a full season in a settled side and they would get 30-40 goals between them.

I don't think that is an accusation that you can fairly level at him.

Jay Bothroyd was probably the last player of ours who just strolled around in an idle fashion.

I think it is, id never seen Simms break a sweat when he was in poor form. If your not scoring the least you can do is run yourself in to the ground considering you are paid thousands of pounds a week and a lot of the blokes in the terraces are struggling.

He reminded me of Tyler walker who stole a living while he was here.

If Simms keeps improving like he is then the fans will back him.

Simms has just turned 23 and is joint top goalscorer. He’s having a better start to his life at Coventry than Vik did.

In the last few games he’s upped the anti.
Works hard, causes issues for defenders, is laying the ball off (yes it doesn’t always come off but you can see what he’s thinking) and scoring a great variety of goals.

He’s going to have a higher ceiling than Haji and will be much improved by next season. He has all the attributes to be a top striker.

I’m not sure why some people are expecting some finished article.

It tools Viktor a number of seasons to become what he has.

Simms will go the same way.

He’s shown since Leeds away that he’s a nuisance for defenders. As a team we were struggling to make chances for our forwards.

The confidence has been building since Plymouth away and is scoring some good finishes.

12 goals this season is not a bad return at all and the fans saying he’ll never be a good goal scorer at this level must be feeling silly by now.

If not, they should be.

btw if anyone's comparing his first touch to Vik, don't conveniently forgot that he was almost always getting the ball in space, in the left channel. Simms is always central with several players all over him, rarely in transition. Not the same.

So he’s going to be worth over £50 million in two years?

It's a bit of a worry we have strikers scoring and not celebrating. Hopefully, it's not a reaction to fans comments. Whatever the reason it's not a good look.

Couldn’t care less, loads of em do it like it’s all cool or something. Rashfords been like it for years. If someone is seriously bothered about a players facial expression when they score I’d try and get away from the screen and have some sex.
