Callum Wilson has taken a dramatic step closer to leaving Coventry City after being given permission to speak to two clubs.

The Telegraph understands that the Sky Blues have received bids of over £3million – believed to be from Bournemouth and Norwich City – for the star striker who has also attracted interest from Brentford and Wolves.

That figure was enough to trigger the debate as to whether it was time to cash in on the 22-goal speed merchant or retain his services for at least another year.

The club are also up against the fact that the 22-year-old Cov Kid is facing a life-changing increase in wages, which could easily triple, as well as the prospect of retaining an unhappy player once his head has been turned.
Wilson and his representative are understood to be in discussions with two clubs who now have to convince him which is the better option in terms of his development.

Simon Gilbert@TheSimonGilbert 5m Standard pattern. Not for sale, everyone has price, head turned. Gone. To be fair £3m is hard to say no to 1 season into career!

don't thnk its that we expect it to be turned down, its that we expect it not to be used towards building a team

£3m for a player whose had one good season and people expect that to be turned down?

Thats a fair and reasonable point Charlie. To be honest, I don't think many 3rd division clubs would turn that down - and for the first time I actually see us as that, rather than a Champ club trying to get promoted back. I class us as that because of the sorry state we're in, poor turn out, not a pot to piss in. So much to us building a team around him.

£3m up front is an amazing deal, snap their hands off. £1.5+ up front and the rest add ons is OK, but that brings us to needing something like 9 players to come in from his fee.

this is certainly the 1st time in my lifetime we haven't actually had a senior striker on our books

Yeah, but he probably knows who is going to be fair.

I hope we got a sell on clause in this. Callum's the type of player who could get a big move if he has a decent season or two at a higher level.

If I was to be honest 3m for a player who's only had one season (a great one at that) that could of been released easily after his fair share of injuries, it's a great bit of business but as we all no, the team needs players an 50 odd goals replacing!!!

Oh come on. You're not that naive are you? Plus loads of extra cash.

It's been happening for decades.

£3mill for a third division player who's had 1 good season, that'll do nicely as long as the majority of the cash is spent on the team. We live in hope.

Our best players being signed by other clubs? Yes. By the likes of Huddersfield and Bournemouth though? Think that latter fact is what pisses people off more.

Wouldn't be so bad if it went back into buying players, but we know it won't as it'll end up in the back pocket of some sleazeball in a suit !
