Grendull, Torch and Bitter Lemon thought that was OK, disgusting. I'm glad I'm not on board with their point of view.

Wtf are you on about. I did NOT think it was ok. Show me where I said it was.

Not sure it's grumpiness, just inability to see a joke mate.

Though it is quite funny to see Nick and Torch do the usual response.

How can people just abandon the club they have supported for their whole lives? More and more it seems that many have been looking for an excuse to pack it all in for a while. Even when we were at the Ricoh the desperate excuses were peddled out.

I don't think people abandon the club, that's a very black and white way off looking at things. People just over time stop being as dedicated, for want of a better word, as they were.

I feel that myself, to be honest I've had to force myself to stay as interested as I have and if it wasn't for this forum (which in all honesty these days I come on more because I can waste time at work!) I would most likely be far more disconnected with the club. Before we moved to Northampton I pretty much arranged my life around the club to make sure I can go to or listen to all games, rushing home for the Friday phone in and so on. I was even looking to uproot my family and move back to the Midlands to enable me to attend more games. Now I don't listen to the phone in (much to my wife's relief!) and don't listen to games as I no longer have a subscription to SBP. The knock on from that is that I now spend my weekends doing other things. When I'm out and about I see the scores flash up on my phone and I certainly don't feel the same level of emotion win, lose or draw. That's not to say I want us to lose or get relegated, certainly not, but where in the past a bad result for the team would mean a bad weekend for me now it's more a shrug my shoulders and get on with the rest of my weekend.

Of course if we were back at the Ricoh next season I think I'm still at a point where I would revert back to where I was at before we left but how many people wouldn't, how many people have drifted off never to return. Of course if we come back and have a run of success people will return but if we come back and are just knocking around in the Championship / L1 I fear too much damage may have already been done that will take many years to repair.

All clubs I imagine lose supporters every year for various reasons, unfortunately some die, some are too old / ill to continue attending, people move away / get married / have kids, people lose their job - all things that can impact on their ability to attend every game. Doesn't mean they've abandoned the club totally, just means their focus has shifted away from the club. With most other teams they have a new group of fans coming in to replace those lost and that's where we're really losing out. Being so close to teams doing a lot better than us and years of decline have not helped with that but that damage will be nothing compared to moving the club to Northampton.

Aren't jokes usually funny and actually make sense?

To spell it out:

Sickboy said that "some on this forum would be happy"

This was implying anti-Sisu posters (who he sees as anti-club).

Tony, made a rather weak joke, but a joke nonetheless, by saying it was you Grendel and Torch, some of the least anti-Sisu posters on the site. It was a joke of opposites, because you three wouldn't really say that you see.

What made it funny was that you and Torch have become such characatures of yourselves that you missed this rather simple joke and got on your high horse.

So a weak joke by somebody who would actually say that is meant to be a clear joke and people are meant to understand it is a joke?

Excellent post.

I believe that that is representative of a significant number.

I worry that SISU do not understand that.

(snipped for brevity....)

Absolutely spot on. Twenty years ago pretty much my entire social life revolved around CCFC. Five years ago I gave up my season ticket. Last season (for the first time I can remember since the late 80s) I didn't go to a single game. If we're in Northampton next season I'm thinking of getting an ST to Coventry RFC.

At one time I used to meet up with a dozen or so regulars, and we'd all go to the game together. ST holders, all of them. Now none of them go to Sixfields, and only a few even bother with away games. The longer this lasts, the more fans we'll lose, and some of them simply won't come back.

DazzleTommyDazzle sums up where I am now its not abandoning the club it's just doing something else with less interest in CCFC and I too fear that even if they return to the Ricoh they will have lost so many.

What the poster above & many other fail to recognise (or willfully deny) is that the majority of fans are not 100% committed come what may.. this is pretty evident from the crowds increasing massively when there is a hint of success (not that there has been more than the odd moment of glory for many years). The poeple of Coventry want a successful team in Coventry, the longer the Sixfields farce goes on the more likely that will come from a different direction than CCFC.

If SISU ignores popular sentiment that may end up reducing the old fanbase to a rump, they do so at their own peril and if they do so it will simply be another example of their gross misjudgement which compounds the mess they’ve already made of the club.

I going to live back in Melbourne and follow my North Melbourne Kangaroos.

Totally fed up with the whole SISU saga.

I would not say its the main reason for going but the leaving the Ricoh Arena is a certainly a factor.

Ive been following Sky Blues since 5 years old back in later 60s'. No bigger supporter than me.

Dismayed with Coventry fans who have put up with this sitaution.
I went to Port Vale only to protest and shout "SISU OUT", amazed I was approached by 2 or 3 times by people playing the
"no other option to SISU" / "support the lads" view.

If we were back at the Ricoh, I would be back there like a shot even with SISU. Apart from my daughter nothing would make me happier.

So, "Go the Roos!" and let hope we get our City back soon.

Geez, North Melbourne? You might as well follow Richmond for all the success you'll experience :)

To be fair it is hard to see what is a joke and what isn't there was no indication it was a joke and he said "disgusting". No smiley, etc. I was also on my phone.

We're all caricatures of ourselves as you have shown on many occasions when saluting the Council Flag.

I've seen you go off on one plenty of times....that's different though, I guess.

Jesus, remind me never to go and see a comedian with you, one joke and the rest of the night dissecting it!

I'm guessing the same way that 1500 can abandon the city they've supported all their lives.

Oh ok. So it's ok to insult boycottors, but not the blessed Sixfielders.

I disagree with sickboy as well, no one has abandoned anything, just people with differing opinions doing their own thing. All this sniping gets no one anywhere. It's tiresome.

Fair enough. My comment was only aimed at him, not in general.

On a serious point in years to one if the club return to Coventry at some point the opposite will be true. There dedication and support will have given revenue and continuity and ensured that there is a future.

Do you not think the Sixfielders get insulted enough? "Scabs", "spineless", "selfish", "lacking moral fibre", "endorsing sisu's actions", "helping kill the club", etc, etc

Trouble is Grendel you have a very big IF in that sentence. Also I assume it should be "in years to come", by then traditions will have been broken and the club will have disengaged with the community and it's fan base.

No more so than the rest of us.

I don't agree with the name calling, but if the likes of sick boy are going to dish it out then they should be prepared to take it.

As I said it was aimed at him not in general.

All sides get crap on here, but it tends to be traded insults. I think a lot depends on how individuals post regardless off stance.
