The moderator has locked a simple thread at the top of the forum, but I see no objection to discussing its progress and effect.

Without Fans there is no Football

Responsible department: Department for Culture, Media and Sport

Football is our national game but the interests of fans are being disregarded by club owners and ruling bodies - government action is needed. UK football clubs are not financial franchises: they are rooted in their local communities and are an important part of local identity and heritage. But a new type of club owner is disregarding all that, pricing many people out of the game with inflated ticket and other costs, alienating people by seeking to change clubs’ names, colours and so on. Football's governing bodies are failing to address the situation. We therefore ask that the Department for Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee revisits its work on football governance and illustrates growing problems by undertaking a short Inquiry into one particular club, Coventry City, whose owner has relocated the club from the City of Coventry to Northampton, 35 miles away. This will highlight concerns shared by football fans across the country, and the need for action.

Has anyone shared this on other clubs forums? That's the way to get people signing. Start with others having issues at the moment or in the past:- Hull, Cardiff, Leeds, Portsmouth, Wimbledon, etc.

I still think to have been successful the petition should have mentioned these other clubs, any way to change the wording?

How many clubs haven't had issues in the past?

Well I've certainly done my bit on twitter, have had over 70 re-tweats and lots of positive replies. And a couple of negatives from a Pompey fan, but on the whole they've been the most supportive.

We had a petition with over 12k signatures before and it achieved nothing except us giving ourselves a pat on the back and saying well done. Why will this one be any different?

I've had only a dozen retweets including 2 from national journalists.

I genuinely can't decide if 3271 sigs after 2.5 days is brilliant or shit.

For me it's shit. Will take a miracle to get to the 100k. It's targetted too much at CCFC fans where it needed to be more general mentioning others along with ccfc.

Just compare it to the CET Poll! 18k signatures in the same time.

I'd suggest it is a dismal failure

Very quick to knock it aren't you sunshine ! Have you signed, go on be honest !?
There are 330,000 people in Cov alone, 600,000 in the catchment area and the country must be full of concerned football supporters. Sounds like you want it to fail ?

Yes. I signed. Thanks.

You will see from my comments I want it to succeed hence wanting it to be more general.

I don't know what planet some people on here are on. Not this one that's for sure.

Glad to hear that, I don't care which 'Side' gets their come uppance but if they have been fucking my club up then it needs to get dragged out into the public view. I have my deep suspicions that the hedge fund are largely to blame of late { Post previous disastrous owners} for this ridiculous debacle but if others have contributed then I'm happy for them to be dragged over the coals as well !!

I certainly do. I assume you just want to see Sisu brought to account rather than look at the full picture.

My reply wasn't to you, but I'll answer anyway. I would like to look at the full picture, and then see SISU brought to account, I don't see the scenario as being one or the other as the question implies.

That's a surprise. Do you support getting all info out for the public to see?

Of course I support all info getting out into the public domain. I've signed it. But we're currently at 3.27% of the required number of signatures, which in my opinion, is shit. Do you think it's brilliant?

Nice one. I don't know how quickly these things normally take off, so I'm content with the numbers, and could therefore not describe them as shit, and that is what I was responding to. It may well be brilliant.

I'm sure Sisu are mostly to blame. However, in terms of this petition, to gain maximum exposure, I think it needed to be more general. Something needs to be put in place to stop what has happened to the likes of us, Cardiff, Hull, etc..

It's not going great yet Is It.
In all honesty that young lad back in the summer,Was It on twitter ?

He may have been Liam off here  Ran a poll for a similar outcome IIRC he got 6K. in about as many hours and IIRC superceeded the CT one ultimately.

But lets not decry any efforts ,lets back it and be constructive .

A link to all the youtube footage is a must .

In which case you would have got a petition calling on football to generally reform itself, after which the FL would have generally agreed to reform, meaning absolutely nothing would have changed at all.

My aim was 1k in the first week so 3k in 48 hours is way beyond anything I'd hoped for. There were plenty on here saying the Why/When at Arsenal was a rubbish idea, wouldn't work etc etc but in the early stages of any of these things it's a case of plugging away and recognising progress takes time (and sometimes it feels like you're going backwards!). For people who want this to work what's needed is not just to sign it yourself but to pester other people to do the same. Retweets, emailing people etc is great but it also needs nagging away to make sure people do it. With Bristol City and Notts County coming up, why not post on their forums rather than here today and see if you can them on board?

Completely agree. The secret to achievement is to just get on and do it.

I have done my bit. Forced my entire office of non-Cov (and a lot of non-football) fans to sign, shared on FB and my entire email contact list and asked people to sign and share. Dont understand twitter though.

We all need to do the same.

I'll look at popping it on some forums later today. I know I've been critical of the wording but do appreciate what you are trying to do (which is far more than most).

Cool. Wording was consulted on and I would have liked to build a broader coalition before launching but after Arsenal things took on a momentum of their own. It continues to trend and just to reassure everyone about wider support here's the message from Hull City Till We Die at Hull

Michael, so sorry for delay in responding. Crazy busy here with FA submissions.
I am publicising the petition as much as possible on Twitter for you.

Kind regards
Kate

Bit of a simplistic calculation I know but I believe there is a 10k hard core fan base ... if all those sign up and manage to get 10 others from non footy family and friends etc then we can do this

Tried my best last night to reach my 10 target and think I must have managed 7/8. A drop in the ocean I know but every little helps

Signed the petition earlier today. I would love to be invited to answer questions from the Select Committee. Encourage everyone you know to sign. People up and down the country should realise that it could be their turn next.

Pastor Niemoller wrote, before being killed by the Nazis:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

Oh good gracious, are you really arrogant enough to compare yourself to Nazi victims? This is an unpleasant, completely bathetic and non nonsensical. comparison.
Who exactly do YOU "speak for" eh PK??

How about posting a link to the petition on the Coventry fans at Arsenal Youtube video. If just 20% of people who have watched that had signed the petition you'd have your 100k already

It's a bit sad that you're trying to get this thread locked by starting a row. If you want to know send him a pm.
