Coventry City in advanced talks with Walsall FC over plans to temporarily play at their stadium

Sources at Coventry City have told ITV News the club is in ‘advanced talks’ about building a new ground and is planning on playing at Walsall’s Banks’ Stadium whilst it is being built.

Coventry City Holdings Ltd (CCFC Holdings Ltd) are believed to be finalising the details, as part of a plan to re-take full control of the football club, after a part of it went into administration in March.

Bosses at CCFC Holdings Ltd, which appears to control players and staff, say the Sky Blues will not be going back to the Ricoh Arena, after a long-running dispute over rent.

It is understood that negotiations are close to being completed to purchase a new site, which would open in 2016 and is in the Coventry area.

Initially, capacity at the ground would be around 15,000. The stadium’s design would allow it to be expanded at a later date. This would happen in two phases after it has opened. Once completed, the idea is for the ground to have a suitable number of seats for a Premier League club.

ITV News has been told that club owners Sisu are confident they can afford the new stadium and that it can ‘pay for itself’. Other facilities designed to bring in revenues would be built on the site. It is claimed the majority of matchday profits, (food, beverage, parking etc), would be spent on the playing squad.

The deal has not been done yet, but club sources say there are various other sites in the Coventry area which would also be suitable. In the meantime, talks for the Sky Blues to play for the next three years at Walsall’s Banks’ Stadium, are ongoing and are said to be close to completion. This has been confirmed by sources at both the Sky Blues and the Saddlers. It is also understood that Coventry have been speaking to other clubs in the West Midlands.

Meanwhile, a part of the Sky Blues, Coventry City Ltd (CCFC Ltd), which owes the Ricoh Arena around £600,000 in unpaid rent is still in administration. Sisu are understood to have put in a bid to purchase the company and appear confident they will succeed in reunifying the club.

At least three other buyers have expressed an interest in purchasing CCFC Ltd. One of them is a consortium led by American property tycoon Preston Haskell IV. However, after nine weeks, the administrator for CCFC Ltd has not been able to clarify what the company consists of exactly. This uncertainty could make the company less attractive to other buyers such as Haskell, who would then have to recruit players and staff - and purchase a share of the Ricoh Arena. CCFC Ltd also has debts of around £70m.

Sources at Coventry City say club bosses will first outline their plans at a series of fan meetings which will be held over the next few weeks.

Absolute tossers! I think there has got to be pressure put on Walsall to tell these clowns to feck off! Can see this being the end for my beloved club if they're allowed to go through with this suicidal plan.

Aren't they forgetting one small thing. They have to be able to buy ltd out of admin first. And hope the football league give them the share back.Their plan is based on too many if's. if they can buy the land to build on, if they get planning permission. If with their reputation they can find a company to build the new ground for them and the biggest if is us the fans.no fans fisher no income you tool.not going to happen its all bullshit.

Well there you go. It will take something special to happen for this to not be the outcome is what that sounds like.

How many here would actually welcome a new stadium we actually owned, had the income streams and a company that seem to want to bring it to fruition?
What's the alternative?

Really starting to get the horrible feeling this isn't bullshit Quinn....I really do think they will go through with it just to prove a point. Financial suicide for them...death of our club for us.

It's a false plan, it's purely to test the mettle of ACL. They may ground share with Walsall, which would completely smash the original argument about match day costs vs income but this is the game they're playing.

You reckon they could make £50m net profit in a generation?

This reminds me of a song I once heard. I believe it went something a little like this:

Fuck off SISU,
SISU fuck off,
Fuck off SISU,
SISU fuck off
.

Sitting in Walsall for 3 years, whilst they hope ACL collapses.
Without them laying a single brick.
Then they will come back if it doesn't work.

Bring on Nuneaton

This is the address to tweet your protests to Walsall at @WFCOfficial, they need to make a statement denying that they are talking to CCFC about playing games at the Bescot, not only for us, but for their own fans.

Alternatively email [email protected].

They are both the buyer and seller in the transaction. What would actually be wrong with it on a legal basis?

I know what you mean and thanks, but the interests of football fans of any club are the concern of all fans from all clubs as what happens at one club sure enough will impact on others either sooner or later. It's just that most of us forget that or choose to ignore it most of the time. That's why I've paid a lot of attention to your plight.

It's a great plan for them but it wont happen.they left the ricoh because they said they cant afford to play there anymore. They were described by their administrators people as a catastrophic insolvency.they are £ 60 million in debt. They won't have any income streams for three years. They have no money.its all a bluff.sisu are on their way out they just dont see it yet

might have something to do with how badly they have run the club and the debts they owe, kind of puts me off liking the idea of then continuing to own the club and how there offer is better than PH4 offer! also if the FL hand the golden share to them back to SISU i would like them to explain how they pass as fit and propers owners
