Whos done well? (4 Viewers)

It's not as simple as that.

Last season Simms needed less minutes per goal than anyone else. His stats were even better than the runaway top scorer for the Championship Vipotnik. He was good enough for the Championship but Lampard didn't pick him enough.

I've said all along it must be that Simms isn't the type of striker Lampard likes. Even when Wright went through times of not scoring Simms didn't get the chance his goals deserved.

Simms is strong and can hold the ball up, but he rarely takes on players and beats them. Lampard seems to prefer a striker who will run at players. Once Wright is back Simms will be totally out of the reckoning through no fault of his own.
The moment Lampard walked through the door there was rumours that he had a thing about Simms for some unknown reason. Not much has happened since then that would make you think otherwise.

As you say his goals per minute are great, he does what's asked of him, no rumours of him being disruptive in any way. Yet he always seems to be the absolute last resort.

For me the tiers are:

Made the step up seamlessley
- Bobby Thomas
- Jay Dasilva
- Sidiki Cherif
- Ethan Pinnock
- Stephan Mfuni
- Aurele Amenda

Look like they’re finding their feet
- Jack Rudoni
- Caleb Yirenkyi
- Frank Onyeka
- Ellis Simms
- Brandon Thomas-Asante

Showing signs but not at the level yet
- Matt Grimes
- Carl Rushworth
- Ephron Mason-Clark
- Taiwyo Awoniyi

Not up to the level
- Milan van Ewijk
- Luke Woolfenden
- Jake Bidwell

Need to see more not enough to judge (* most likely to step up)
- Ben Wilson
- Dan Bentley
- Kaine Kesler-Hayden *
- Joel Latibeaudiere (at CB)
- Josh Eccles
- Victor Torp *
- Gustavo Hamer
- Tatsuhiro Sakamoto
- Haji Wright *
- Yann Gboho *

Over his whole time here what is Simms mpg compared to others? I doubt it’s that great. Also if he’s that good why haven’t clubs been banging on the door to buy him?

how can Awoniyi not be at the level given he’s played in the PL as a striker for several seasons?

He wasn't a last resort, he was second choice to Haji Wright?

Across all seasons an competitions with us, it's 185 mpg which is 1 in 2 / 20 goal a season strike rate

I know his second season here it was close to a goal every 400 minutes

A couple of players have really underperformed this season as weve covered, Rushworth, Milan and EMC the main culprits

But who do we think has taken the step up well and can maintain a stay in the premier league from our squad last season.

For me, Bobby Thomas, Jack Rudoni and Jay Dasilva have been nothing short of sublime. Honourable mention for BTA
Yeah. I would completely agree with the underperformers and the one that has surprised me the most for his performances are BTA. Never thought I would be saying that !!!

I have to say Rushworth has had a stinker this season. I can't understand why other than the price tag is now weighing very heavy on his shoulders. I have to say other than when he set up DaSilva at Forest his distribution has been awful. He also gives me a heart attack every time the ball is at his feet as he waits until the very last minute to wallop it. It is only a matter of time until it is nicked off him imo

Well he was behind Godden for parts of his first season too.

the thing nobody addresses who supports him starting is why no other club has come in with a massive offer for him.

171 mpg, still roughly 1 in 2. He does take pens and he also had more consistent runs in the side. Take pens away from both players there's about 10 mins different per goal.

So if he’s that great clubs would be queuing round the corner to sign him?

What's your point? Wright has started more than Simms because he's better, he's been our top scorer 3 seasons in a row, season 1 he spent a lot of time on the wing, season 2 he had a long injury, yet still 3 seasons on the spin. I don't get this nonsense that Simms has been a 'last resort' or treated badly. He hasn't, he's been second choice and he's played loads.

Max Biamou had a goal ratio of 109 GPM one season. I think Jordan Ponticelli even better. Get them in

That hat-trick against a woeful Watford on the final day has spun peoples heads. Him, Wright and even BTA who played mainly wide or in the 10, had virtually identical strike rates last season. Fair play to him, he picked up a lot last season after being woeful for half of his first season and all of his second season. Lampard clearly did something right with him as he got the best version of him as far as i saw it.
There was a time when many on this forum were peddling a 'only player Lampard hasn't improved is Simms' narrative. I don't think that's the case now, i think he's clearly better and he'd get a better move now than he would have at the end of season 2 for sure.

Similar to what’s claimed about Simms, I doubt clubs were lining up to sign Awoniyi either.

Taiwo will likely end up an experienced third choice if Cherif keeps up with his development and if Wright can get himself fit.

Has he shown he’s at the level for us yet? The category I’ve put him in means he’s shown something and could be, but because he’s done it for another team doesnt automatically mean he’s at the level for us because we play a different way

Have you actually read the thread?

1) someone said that Simms had a decent goal record

2) G asked what his mpg was

3) I replied with his mpg for his whole time with us.(186 mpg ~ 1 in 2 / 20 over a season)

4) presumably because it was much better than G thought it was, he moved goal posts and asked for league only

5) I responded with his mpg (204 mph, still ~ 1 in 2 / 20 over a season)

6) G obviously still not happy that it much better than he had thought then decided we had to compare it to Wrights

7) so I replied with wrights mpg (174 mpg ~ 1 in 2 / 20 over a season). I only added the context about pens and getting more consistent runs in the side not to put Wright down, but to put in context that Simms record is pretty good given that he's second / third choice and doesn't get long runs in the side or takes pens.

That is all.

Agreed Pinnock, Onyeka, Tchaouna, Awoniyi have all played premier league. Amenda and Gboho all good experience in one of Europe's top 5 leagues.

I think the whole point of this is about those from last season, who has stepped up to the PL level.

Yes I am surprised people didn't pick up on that. Not the best title from Saddle but still pretty obvious what was being asked.

I agree. I think Simms has done nothing wrong too and I have been very impressed with Cherif. He looks like he has everything and at 19. Should also mention Amenda who was impressive

It is bizarre. Awonyi cost us the game against Brighton. Banned 3 games, straight in above Simms..

what’s Wrights?
