Match Thread Coventry City vs Brighton & Hove Albion FC (H) - Match Thread - Sun 13th September (2pm KO) (6 Viewers)

Not sure you’ve read any posts. Completely agree that team was wrong. But also your view of Brighton shows why there has been such an over reaction. A hardened prem unit that some thought we would win at a canter against for some bizarre reason.
I read your posts. Hull have played 8 players from last season and are unbeaten.. we finished 22 points above them.wer’e 8 points behind them.. it’s not an over reaction, it’s a reality check as how far away we are

I’m not contesting that. We’re a long way off and we don’t have enough quality. But that was always going to be the case. £130m is peanuts in pl terms. But it’s what we had.

To be clear on my stance, Lampard is my favourite City manager of all time (yes I prefer him to Robins, sue me.) I don't want him fired but sitting £100 million worth of player out of a team while getting your arse handed to you weekly and having the likes of Grimes look completely out of his depth is a one way ticket to the job centre. None of it is good enough.

I’ve calmed down a bit since the match thread but there comes a point where you’ve got to show the same ruthlessness with the manager you’re asking the manager to have with his players. Not sure we’re there yet but we are heading there pretty quickly IMO.

I think so.

If you want the rainbow, you have to put up with the rain right?

It’s great you’ve found affinity with a troll who supports wolves and has never been to a game - you know he’s taking the piss out of you yes?

It wasn’t always going to be the case… Ipswich have signed World Cup winners..we’ve signed players who aren’t fit enough to even get in the squad. We stick with grimes ( love him but he’s not at the level we need )…we’ve got 4 players who shouldn’t be starting when you’ve just spent over 120 million…it’s time to start asking questions about who plans our signings…we’re miles away

That's up to him, I think going down but at least putting a couple of his new players in the window for huge moves to help the club keep moving forward will be accepted by King, as long as it's not completely embarrassing. What is happening currently, the results, the performances, the loyalty to players who aren't up to it and the refusal to use players the owner has spent 10s of millions on, will not be tolerated for long.

Players like Yirenkyi were surely promised to be regularly starting games otherwise they wouldn't have signed.

Never been to a game. Thats a new one. I am a Coventry fan Grendel. Youreally think I've been on this forum 15 years and made 30k posts to have not even been a fan and never been to a game.

Ahhh fuck. Really disappointing game. Never expected this season to be easy but it’s as bad a start as I could have feared for. Really thought we’d get something out of today after the performance against Man City. Disappointed but not giving up yet, we just need to get of the mark.

15 years on here 30k posts and he thinks im not a fan!

Dont converse with him mate, he said it was good that children in palestine were getting bombed the other month
Doesn’t matter how long you’ve been on here,, it’s only taken 4 games to realise we’ve absolutely fucked the biggest transfer window in our history

Just let him learn on the job, it simply cannot go any worse than persisting with Grimes anyway.
EMC is not up to the level, Gboho should be starting ahead of him.
Rudoni out wide is an experiment we already know doesn't work, Tchaouna should be starting there.
Grimes is not up to the level, Yirenkyi should be starting ahead of him.

Do those changes materially affect the outcome today? Probably not, but it gives you a better chance.

The bigger concern to me is the amount of time we have had to prepare for this season compared to the other two, to just look like we don't know what the plan is.

To split hairs, Ipswich have signed *a* world cup winner. Who mostly sat on the bench.

They've also almost completely neglected their defence, and quite possibly won't be any happier than us come the end of the season.

They have a significantly better chance.

Possibly not, but I genuinely do not see where we get a result from, whereas Ipswich have already won twice. I mean, we haven't even fucking scored.

The point is they're putting up a fight.

The lack of fight amongst the team was what I found hardest to watch today. There was no aggression.

Not even aggression in tackles, you just see them committing players forward, shooting at the goal, crazy stuff like that.

Lampard likes the players who got us up and can't bring himself to drop them, never mind sell them. That risks turning this into a single digit points tally with a completely demoralised squad going back into the Championship.

I mean the running stats were brought up to big Grimes up in the week. Today he was chasing shadows the entire game, couldnt get close to any of their players.

end of the day. we had chances today in the first half their keeper pulled off 2 great saves. Different game if one went in but same time. That’s the difference between championship and prem. on the championship you get 5 or 6 chances in prem half of that

They were saves you'd expect someone at this level to make.

Which was such a shame after Man City where we had 16 tackles compared to our 6 today.
the players looked devoid of any confidence in their own abilities today, was very passive. Brighton were levels above us in terms of team understanding and playing their way through us at any moment.

What I’m saying is what I saw in the 2nd half, we are second to every 50/50 or not putting the challenges in, we are standing off teams and not getting into them. That’s the difference between us and Hull and Ipswich.

if we want to understand one of our biggest problems at the moment just watch their forth and fifth goals over and over again.
ffs, guys. when we get to the edge of their area, FUCKING SHOOT.

why are we obsessed with getting the ball out to the wing?

They've also had a much, much easier start.

I don't think it should be underplayed just what a psychological effect that opening game would have had. Getting completely and utterly outclassed against Arsenal's no disgrace, but when it's your first game at the level and you've nothing to demonstrate to yourself that you can compete, that's harsh.

I'm not defending anything, but to say, 'oh, but Ipswich are doing ok' when the variables are so different doesn't really work.
