Match Thread Coventry City vs Brighton & Hove Albion FC (H) - Match Thread - Sun 13th September (2pm KO) (5 Viewers)

The Premier League is not a place where you can learn your trade and that includes as a manager. It is totally unforgiving.
We have too much inexperience at the club to make a good go at it (and a lack of fire power) but hopefully we will have learnt a great deal by the end of the season.
Hull and Ipswich have made better starts but they will soon be joining us at the bottom.
Just enjoy the ride.

Our three CH’s all at fault for the first 3 goals. But it’s the lack of cover in front of them that is the issue

Lampard is lost! Why break up the Ewijk Sakamoto partnership..
Ron Burgundy What GIF

I think if anyone's job is potentially on the line, it's Austin rather than Lampard.

Based on today, £120m has been spent on players that Lampard either doesn't trust or doesn't believe are any better than we already have. BTA, who is not a winger, was brought on to play on the wing rather than Tchouna, who is a winger. Torp was brought on rather than Hamer. JDS played the full 90 and Mfuni stayed on the bench. Onyeka in midfield rather than Yirenkyi who we were told was being scouted by Real Madrid and Chelsea.

Let’s be honest. We’ve had teats against top teams, we’ve had a test against a promoted team and we’ve had a test against a mid table team.

Every time we’ve looked miles behind.

We’re going down so accept it now and enjoy being in the big time while we can.

Lampard was wedded to a formation that made us vulnerable and had no threat.

He's done amazingly well to get us up but he shouldn’t be absolved of blame because he won’t use the tools he’s been given.

Is this just you having a realization that you support a team that's basically doomed to mediocrity at best then welcome to the party.

Shocking that it's taken so long.

Seriously though it's not about striving to be Real Madrid is it? Did you not enjoy our victories on our journey through the leagues. That's our level. The Prem is a gross money league it's so hard to compete, even the likes of Chelsea and Man City have to bend/ break the rules to 'win' currently we are miles off. But it would be crazy to lose your mind at the first run of bad results.

You could just support have a switch up and follow Arsenal if you want guaranteed glory
This being true and calling us depressingly wank for the season up to now are not mutually exclusive standpoints.

This season was always going to be extraordinarily difficult, but we are making such a pig's ear of it so far. The players started by looking like rabbits in a headlamp, and since then, the tactics and performances have been at best naive.

There's losing, and then there's losing.

Of four games, we've come away with a degree of credit in one of them. That's not good enough.

If we had lost 4 with some decent bits then maybe its ok

4 games
0 wins
4 losses
0 goals
-10 goal difference.

Its probably the worst possible start anyone could have imagined.

Rides usually have at least some kind of upward motion.

Absolutely. Tactically and team selection-wise we were a fucking disaster today, and that's on him. I just feel if anyone's going to take the fall for our poor start should it continue in this vein, King will choose Austin rather than Lampard.

Well that was men playing boys, they won 90% of every tackle they went in for, our lads dangled a weak foot in, MVE again offers very little defensively always leaves his man unmarked out wide he his not prem quality Grimes and Onyeka very poor in midfield. Frank now needs to be a manager and drop some of the regulars if there not up to speed for the prem
The drop in performance from Man City to that is alarming

Ayari has been desperate to score, and of course we let him.

I mean, we are seriously out of our depth. It needs wholesale changes for the next match.
Like v Arsenal we were defending the 6 yard line and allowing their midfield the freedom of the edge of the pen box

Maybe.

I think they need to get together and work out why the masses of money we’ve invested isn’t being used.

I suspect the answer is that we have players to develop and we won’t hit our stride until Christmas.

I also think that will be too late.

Said before the game (and vs man city) we have absolutely no pace in basically all areas of the pitch (bar MVE) and it was painfully exposed today.

The slow triangles between rudoni /EMC, grimes and dasilva/milan aren’t gunna cut it at this level.

Really hoping gboho and tuna can spark our season up a bit with a run in team.

Difficult to make the judgement mind when we aren’t offering consistent minutes to the majority of the new signings.

King needs to recognise his own role in this.
Indeed. It was him that basically intimated we'd be mainly using the players from last year and we wouldn't be paying big (or even average) wages. That limits the players you can attract.

I think he either massively underestimated the gulf between Championship and PL, or he massively overestimated the ability of the likes of Grimes, Rudoni, MvE and EMC. Wright's injury has likely been the thing keeping him off that list too.

No point overreacting yet. The huge downside for me is that we spent a Kings Ransom on midfielders and wingers when we needed more firepower up front. Awoniyi is only average at this level, Simms isn’t fancied by the manager, Wright is injured and Cherif is just a baby.

We've only signed 2 midfielders and they've cost similar to what we paid for our strikers?

Good original point. Had not thought of that.

I always enjoy taking things out of context and being constantly depressing.

Why have you stayed behind to applaud a 5 nil home defeat, a team thats not won or even scored a fucking goal.

It doesnt make you a superior fan it makes you a fucking seal

Perhaps.

I did think MvE and Rudoni would have enough to at least look not out of their depth at this level, though.

The worry for me now, is can Lampard organise us to be compact. We’ve conceded 10 in four if I’m not wrong.

And let’s be honest, our defending last year wasn’t great but Rushworth bailed us out a lot, as well as our goal scoring.

Without either of them, this is going to be a long long season

I'm actually not against that. Some (many) of the wages in Premier League football are so obscene they're offensive.

Lampard is lost! Why break up the Ewijk Sakamoto partnership.. Saka is not going to get clattered in the Prem so he'll have more room. Grimes has served his purpose getting us promoted but he's out of his depth now.. Onyeka the same. And why spend so much money on players you don't use... and what a waste to not start Torp who has more energy than the whole team put together.. he's a game changer... Big rethink required..
You have to start Tchaouna and Yirenki ahead of Tats, Torp/ Grines. Whilst still finding their feet they are clearly better. And bring more energy. Let’s hope KKH becomes a fresh option for MVE who looks a shadow of last season.

I’d rather Eccles to Grimes, at least Eccles can run.
Tbf Eccles would of covered some of the gapping gaps in front of the back 5.
Hope he's back from injury soon
(Never thought id be saying that in the PL)
