Geely story is pretty incredible. Company was only founded in 1986 making fridge motors under license in a tiny factory unit. Started making mopeds from kits in 1994 and then cars in 97.

39 years from tin pot fridge motor makers to being a fortune 500 company and one of the biggest auto makers in the world.

Big question mark over whether Jaguar will still exist in the next year or two. With the news that Range Rover are planning more road focused models and Tata refocusing on commercial vehicles Jags future is very uncertain. The new electric GT will have to be very successful right from the start of they are going to survive.

Also, JLR has a joint venture with Chery, Geely's biggest rival, so I doubt Geely would be happy to sponsor us in any form of we Jag on our shirts.

Minor point but thankfully their logo is not too offensive.

It's a privately owned company. Chinese gov aren't involved at all.

This is the case in most data places tbh. They mostly just want to send you more effective spam emails but everyone thinks they’re Jason Bourne off the grid with their burner phone.

I've been struggling with Chinese apps today in preparation for a holiday there in October, if anything there is too much information much of which is subtly out of date or irrelevant. There's also tons of stuff built in to the apps I wouldn't use like ordering a taxi (DiDi not Uber), I just need a small items payment app, a map app and a translate app, holiday company pretty much deals with travel, accomodation and most food.

I discovered my Email won't work there because the company I use will not comply with their surveillance requirements and is blocked, yeah the privacy thing is one reason why I pay them, they also provide a VPN and allow me to register and host my personal domain which I've had for years now and is used for my normal email.

Had enough for today, I'll continue the fight tomorrow.

Using that was the only way I managed to stop job agencies sending me job links after I'd retired.
The process still took several years but I think I'm clean now.

Oh, I know Dave and Tracey from Bulkington. Theyre moving to Brean Sands in the new year. I only know this because I snooped on them after this large Chinese company I know sold me their data!

No more of a worry than any other government to be honest. As soon as we all got online they already knew all there was to know about us. It's easy to think that the powers that be are using that data for nefarious purposes but in truth it's just to target us with more relevant ads.

Geely are a giant organisation with offices all over the world. They may have begun in China but as they are 100% owned by one bloke who spends most of his time in Germany it doesn't really matter that much.
