What players would we like to see on the club’s transfer shortlist this summer?

For me, the list would look something like this:

Goalkeeper
1. Carl Rushworth - Brighton
2. Illan Meslier - Leeds
3. Mads Hermansen - West Ham

Right back
(if MVE is sold)
1. Brooke Norton-Cuffy - Genoa
2. Josh Acheampong - Chelsea
3. Kyle Walker-Peters - West Ham

Right sided centre back

1. Adam Webster - Brighton
2. Charlie Cresswell - Toulouse
3. Charlie Hughes - Hull

Left sided centre back

1. Callum Doyle - Wrexham
2. Jacob Greaves - Ipswich
3. Ben Davies - Spurs

Left back
1.
Ben Chilwell - Strasbourg
2. Leif Davis - Ipswich
3. Josh Doig - Sassuolo

Centre midfield
(box to box)
1. Hayden Hackney - Middlesbrough
2. Jordan James - Rennes
3. Benjamin Tahirovic - Brøndby
4. Patrick Berg - Bodø/Glimt

Centre midfield
1. Billy Gilmour - eventual replacement for Grimes
2. Tyler Morton - cover/competition for Grimes
3. Harry Winks - cover/competition for Grimes

Right wing

1. Harvey Elliott - Liverpool
2. Harry Wilson - Fulham
3. Femi Azeez - Millwall

Number 10
(cover/competition for Rudoni)
1. Angel Gomes - Marseille
2. James McAtee - Forest
3. Giorgi Chakvetadze - Watford

Left wing
(cover/competition for EMC)
1. Jesse Derry - Chelsea
2. Mikey Moore - Tottenham
3. Jeremy Monga - Leicester

Striker

1. Liam Delap - Chelsea
2. Tammy Abraham - Villa
3. Evan Ferguson - Roma
4. Zan Vipotnik - Swansea

That would be my shortlist. Some are obviously more realistic than others, but I think it gives a decent mix of permanent targets, ambitious options and possible loans.

Who would everyone else have on their list?

Messier!! Leeds 4th choice and one of the worst keepers I've seen. Then I saw winks and gave up

Would be a proper downer of a start to the season if MVE is sold

Dasilva
Allen
Tats

There is a mere handful of players on that list I would be interested in - Rushworth, James, Elliott, Monga.

I’d possibly include Mikey Moore but that’s never going to happen.

I remember him beating Holyfield, but he must be knocking on a bit now, so not sure he's right for us.

Could fit in with our “physical” playing style, but VAR might have the last word…

Posters have said before that Chakvetadze and Louza are very decent - I’d be delighted if we could get them. Monga too.

Feel like we’re going to invest from abroad though as thats where the value is - and Doug will love that! (Which I have no problem with - exciting!)

Jose Sa at Wolves would be a good relatively cheap short term keeper for us if we can't get Rushworth in.

Good try Dean but you’re not getting my ideas for free.

Harry Winks 🤣🤣🤣 Angel Gomes isnt a number 10, Adam Webster has been out for a year with an ACL and hasn't played since May 2025. Derry is 18 and has played about 30 mins of first team football ever.
Winks has a similar profile to Grimes and is unlikely to be on huge money following relegation to League One. At the moment, the squad does not have adequate backup for Grimes.

Considering Grimes is now 30, the ideal situation over the next few years would be for the club to sign someone like Billy Gilmour or Tyler Morton to eventually become the focal point of the team as the deep lying playmaker, with Grimes then providing experienced cover and competition.

Although Webster hasn’t played for a while, the squad needs a defender with significant Premier League experience to provide cover and competition for Thomas. Someone like Michael Keane could have been a good option, although he has recently signed a contract extension at Everton. A centre half with that sort of experience and profile would also help Thomas and Kitching develop further.

Angel Gomes played a lot as a number 10 for Marseille under De Zerbi. He also played regularly in that role at England youth level.

He's on 70k a week at Leicester with no relegation clause.

Tahirovic doesn't start for Brondby. Harry Winks was dreadful all season for Leicester.

Meanwhile, Tyler Morton plays every game for Lyon after joining them for £15m and you want him to be cover for Grimes.

Fuck me what a list. Get your CV to Dean Austin fella.

On Tahirovic, fair enough if he isn’t starting every week for Brøndby, but he’s still only 23, has played for Ajax, Roma and Bosnia, and fits the profile of a technically good midfielder who may be available if things haven’t quite worked out. Sometimes those are exactly the sort of players worth looking at. He has similar attributes to Onyeka and would provide good cover/competition.

On Winks, I’m not claiming he had a brilliant season. The point is more that he has Premier League experience, plays a similar deep lying role to Grimes, and could potentially be available after Leicester’s relegation. As a squad option, I don’t think that’s outrageous.

With Tyler Morton, I agree he’s probably ambitious, especially after the Lyon move. But the point was the type of player rather than saying he’d definitely come here as backup. Long term, we need someone who can either compete with Grimes or eventually replace him as the deep lying playmaker and focal point of the team

Some names on my list are more realistic than others, but the overall idea is that we need better depth and succession planning in that Grimes role, rather than going into a Premier League season with no proper alternative.

I don't doubt Websters PL credentials, however he's not even back on grass yet after suffering his ACL injury and being out all season. Massive risk of a signing even on a free. Probably wouldn't even pass the medical.

the replacement for mve if his sold is already here
Good point. KKH is a quality player.

I doubt MVE will be sold, but there is always a chance that a bigger club comes in for him this summer with an offer we can’t turn down. If that does happen, KKH could step up, and someone like Kyle Walker-Peters could be brought in so that we still have two Premier League quality right backs.

The main point, for me, is squad planning. Ideally, we need two good players for every position, plus an additional goalkeeper, midfielder and striker to make up the 25 man squad.

You want to sign Winks as back up to Grimes and an injured Adam Webster as we need PL experience, but your left wingers as back up to are just bonkers

1. Jesse Derry - Chelsea - 18 years old played, 33 mins of first team football. I suspect it we hadn't been linked to him you'd have never heard of him
2. Mikey Moore - Tottenham - 18 years old
3. Jeremy Monga - Leicester - 16 years old

Let’s be honest, the list of players was very smelly, despite the beautiful formatting.

Dean would be sat at his gold plated desk, thumbing through all the signed blank cheques from Doug, laughing his head off at the majority of the suggestions.

That is a horrific list on so many levels, Is this an AI bot making these recent posts? Stinks of it to me
