We'll likely sign 2 CBs so Hughes & one with Prem experience feels about right. Unless there is a gem abroad that will join if we're in the Prem
Didn't we make a late bid for a Bodo/Glint CB? Nielsen?

I don't think I was Nostradamus by any means on this but I'm thrilled that my predictions about him have born fruit. The difference he's made has been incredible, he's been a huge injection of quality and energy, plugged the massive gap that was causing us to struggle and has already made a huge contribution to the positive culture around the club

I absolutely love him. Athletic, covers ground so quickly and got flashes of real top quality. I actually thought he was unusually sloppy in possession a couple of times last night though, maybe due to International travelling/being away, the back pass when he put them through end of first half, lost ball before pen and once or twice nearly dropped us in it.

Having said that the goal showed all his qualities. The harrying to win ball, the pass, determination to receive return ball and finish (I thought he meant it but guess we’ll never know). What a signing !

he's much more mobile than i expected, which is a good thing.
with the nickname the tank, i kind of expected him to be planted in the middle.
but he puts himself about, and seems know when to sit and when he can go.
partners well with grimmo. great signing.

Grimes onyenka and rudoni are capable of playing well in premier League imo

Unfortunately (in terms of sentiment) torp Allen and Eccles may need to go and be replaced with top quality players for a premier League campaign.

Eccles will stay. Lampard clearly likes him and he does have an engine to last in a game

Onyeka has got it all, very much Patrick Vieira esc. A top signing who is absolutely class.

I hope Eccles scores next season, home-grown, scored in league 1, champ, prem. Great story

Also, I love Onyeka as much as the next man but doesn't he kick the ball weird?

He’s been just what we need in midfield. We were in a phase where we had Grimes covering it on his own. Torp not mobile enough and Eccles deployed further forward. He’s filled the gap perfectly but I think we’ll need a couple of new faces in there for depth next year.

Torp is a funny one to me, I dont know if he’d be suitable in the Premier League, I can see a German or Italian club fancying a punt on him but I just dont think he has the engine to be an 8 in the Prem. I’d love to be proven wrong but I can see a Midfield with him and Grimes being picked apart. And I really like Torp and rate him but its his playstyle Im not convinced suits a relegation battle in the Prem

Onyeka couldnt get a game at Premier league level for an average Brentford, thats why he's here, and the pace of the Premier league could be a challenge to Grimes.

Looking at our squad, id say Rudoni, Thomas, MvE, and Tats, have a chance of making the grade in the Premier league, but they'd all have to up their game.

(Im hearing Brighton have agreed a deal to sell Rushworth to Villa, (dont shoot the mesanger) otherwise id include him too)

In fairness brentford have finished top 10 in 2 of the last 3 years and will again this year ..

Theyre a good premier league side

Not every player suits a team, he suits us perfectly and it brings the best out of each other

Ummmm, id say there are only about 6 decent Premier league sides, all the rest are bang average.
established PL sides, like Fulham, Palace, Bournemouth, Spurs, West ham, Everton, and Newcastle arnt exactly world beaters.
(Still a level above us though obviously)

In more fairness he was available to sign by all the PL clubs including relegation threatened ones and got no interest and was never a consistent starter at Brentford.

I think Onyeka starts for us next season but that’s it for our CMs, we’ll need to sign better than him in the summer to go next to him.

Its the most competitive league in the world , we will see how bang average they are next year

Well , he will more than likely be a premier league starter next season so it all means very little

I think the hype in this thread about him is ludicrous. He’s the bottom end of what we’ll need next season and a very limited player at that level. If he wasn’t we wouldn’t have been able to sign him while in the Championship. Someone in the match thread said he’s ten times as good as Hamer FFS.

He suits us at the moment because other teams had sussed us out.
We needed a high energy physical player, once teams learnt to pressure the likes of Torp and Eccles and kick lumps out of Sakamoto.
A slight tweak was needed and Onyeka gave us that, and if we are going to be under the cosh in most games next season, his battling qualities may well be needed.

Theres probably a balance between what you think of him and what they think of him .

I think hes been an excellent signing

Yea but we’re a Championship side. Well see what the fee is but I’m not convinced he’s a good signing for next season from what I’ve seen so far tbh.

Fair enough

Its certain we will need legs in midfield though , pretty small footballers with limited athleticism are probably less desirable and i think frank has several attributes we need

He’s obviously made a difference but thought last night was a below par performance (other than the goal).

He gave the ball away multiple times in dangerous areas, gifted them a 1v1 and gave it away in the lead up to the pen too. Wouldn’t get away with it in the prem.

See I picked up something from the Brentford forum yesterday, apparently in the premier league he’s alright when you’re not controlling possession. When you have 55-60% apparently that’s where he falls down.

Don’t see that myself, as we usually control possession, but that may be why. At the lower end where we’ll be he’ll probably still be class
