The game is silly really, why on earth are clubs appointing people in their late 70s? What other industry would do that?
Always thought this, if you have an aspiring young manager or someone whos stepping up from a lower league then it makes sense to bring them on board as an advisor. At 78 its a bit short termism unless as the BCFC fans think he will be the man thats going to be their new director of football.

Reids managerial talent at Sunderland was to pick Phillips and Quinn and swear a lot (see Premier Passions). Thats all.

He was only appointed as that clown McGinnity decided he wanted a big name and asked Richard Keys who would be available. Keys said Reid would.

Years later Reid said that when he took the job he insisted McGinnity gave assurances Callum Davenport remained at the club. This led to the famous remark when Davenport wasn’t in training and he rang McGinnity for him to just say “he’s gone Peter”

A bit like Lampard Reid took Leeds when they were failing and us - two basket base clubs with basket case chairmen and was always going to fail

I think Reid is not the villain of the piece like Grendel says, it was the utter arseholes that run the club at the time. Reid comes across well whenever you hear from him, I follow him on Twitter.

To have been a fly on the wall when Tim Sherwood’s medical was signed off.

The Sherwood comment wasn’t made as a flippant comment. He didn’t have a full medical as he’d have failed it - just the batshit world of Mike McGinnity

I think that 2000-2007 period under the previous owners did far greater long term damage to the club than the subsequent SISU era.

McGinnity destroyed the club

I know it wasn’t flippant, but it is comical how that happened and he was given a 2 year deal.

From what I hear Hodgson has been put in to basically guide standards and procedures of what is expected as a minimum from their permanent appointment. Almost a director of football role with a bit of management on the side.
