Having someone a level above must do a lot to drive standards from the others, you can see a lot of other players have taken things up a level since he arrived.

I have to admit I underestimated what he could bring to the team. He has been so important for us with the break up of play and limiting the opposition

Agree with the above about his attacking abilities, pleasantly surprised as I thought he was just brought in to be the disrupter and then play it to Grimes. His quick feet in a tight area and burst of pace before his deflected shot in the first half was superb!

An impressive 7 wins from 8 games with him in the side...good work Frank
Even the Saints game defeat, we were really competitive, and on another day, could/should have won that - GK Peretz on loan from Bayern, had a great game.
If Rushworth in unavailable next year, he might be a good shout ?

The way he anticipates, intercepts and hustles has added so much steel to our midfield. But yesterday showed his attacking prowess as well. A proper all action midfield performance. He’s also integrated really quickly into the group. Great character as well.

It’s almost looks like he plays within himself to do his job for the team but then you see flashes of top quality technical ability. Great player. As mentioned above, fair play to Doug, went out there and delivered exactly what we needed at the right time

The bit on the right where he knocked the ball past his man and ran on to it for the cross was premier league. Absolute classic.
I thought that was class as well!

Watching Millwal and Cooper their CB is a beast and fuck all gets past him! Certainly worth looking at in my opinion.

What Onyeka does is he allows us to only play 2 central midfielders and 4 attackers in the 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 systems. Grimes and Torp was far too open and Torp can't do what Onyeka can do, i.e. running round the pitch, putting tackles in, fouling in 'good areas'.

We no longer get ran through in the middle of the pitch and it actually takes the opposition to make good passes to cut us open. Go and watch our games away at Norwich and QPR compared to the games where Onyeka plays, the difference is night and day.

Torp is an attacking midfielder, and it’s a shame he’s lost his place as he would 100% be effective at 10, I was hoping he’d come on for BTA instead of Eccles yesterday (not that Eccles did a bad job at all, but just would be nice for Torp to get some minutes and a few more goals)

Torp has barely played AM in his career…

Would love to see him score before the end of the season. And it will be a worldie too
Everything he does is worldie.

He does worldie tackles and has worldie energy and will score worldie goals. He does worldie wees and poos and worldie sneezes and burps and worldie ejaculations.

Top bloke and if he was a girl I would marry him.

Am even considering it anyway .

I think Torp is an 8. Not a sitting midfielder but not an attacking midfielder. His range of passing and ball control is excellent and he has a great shot on him. When we tried him in the AM role previously, it didn't work, albeit that was under Robins.

I don't think he is physical enough or has the engine to be a head of Onyeka. I would start Torp against teams like Sheff Wed or teams that park the bus. But in an open game like yesterday's was at Swansea, I think you have to start Onyeka and Grimes a head of him.

That said, Torp is a great option off the bench. There can't be many better CMs sitting on the bench in this division.

He’s so much better from an attacking perspective than anyone would have known
His numbers for Augsburg last season suggested he is more than a ball winning midfielder. His dribbling and crossing stats were strong and yesterday, his involvement in 2 goals yesterday shown his pedigree as a winger earlier on in his career.

Sorry, I didn’t mean AM, I meant ‘an attacking midfielder’ as in he is far less effective at breaking up play and more effective at creating / scoring (although based on Onyeka’s performance yesterday it looks like he can do everything) - maybe I should’ve said creative rather than attacking

still think Torp is an option at 10 though, but agree he’s a CM against teams that aren’t as much of a threat and we don’t necessarily need two sitting mids

I think it's fair to say that Lampard tweaked the tactical approach when Onyeka came in, so it wasn't just a personnel change. We were far too open and gung ho before, with the full backs going AWOL and Grimes having no help. Onyeka has played a big part in rectifying that, but it's not all down to him.
