Well, I thought that a really good hard competitive game of football. Considerably better than PNE where I lost the will to live after we went 3-0.

But they were the better side, in particular their backs had first Wright then Simms always in hand. I don't think Simms got a sniff and nor did Tats. Southampton played to a level of a side that was in the Prem but just had a poor start this season

It also showed up the limitations of Grimes at the highest level. We really missed Rudoni for that touch of skill and even when we began to dominate it was a very scratchy sort of domination.

Good stuff from EMC, JDS and I thought criticism above on Kitching harsh. At least he brought the ball out quickly and got attacks rolling. Woolfie on the other hand was dire, painfully slow on the ball, poor awareness of players close by. Headless chicken.

...and yet we had plenty of chances. The header by wright just before he came off - very poor.

Still lots to do and a couple of bad results would see us under a lot of pressure. Swansea, Derby and Hull are tough fixtures.
Far too much over confidence from the media and some fans before the job is done. And very strange from Cov fans with our history.

Ps. Questioning whether we replace the starting 11 when we go up when we want that 11 to spill their guts to get us there is particularly bizarre at this point.

I do find it really really bizarre how regardless of the nature of the defeat and in context to this season (78 goals so far!) that somehow week in week out it’s Haji’s/ the forwards fault.

If not for Gyokeres (whom Haji has more goals in as many games for us) Haji would be the best striker we’ve had in recent memory.

Week in week out I sit in my seat at the CBS and listen to the shower of abuse he gets. Come on here and he’s getting slated. It’s embarrassing. Every other side in this division would snap our hands off for him.

If/when he moves on and inevitably scores against us. If he ran over to singers corner cupping his ears I wouldn’t blame the bloke.

Agree with all of this. It feels like some haven’t supported this team long enough to see how things can go. Focus one on game at a time. Every three points is going to have to be earned to get over the line.

We lucky Boro didn't beat Bristol with the chances they had for a second so it evened out with bad luck in our game

We can still afford a bad week yet. But hopefully it doesn't come till after a couple more wins!

Nice to see Lampard living in the heads of all the Saints fans. Celibrating like it was their cup final and pages of abuse of Lampard on their social media. Pathetic and Im putting them at the top of the most hated up their own arses fans on my list with Ipswich

Yeah, just watched back highlights on fast forward. We played well against a decent side who were well set up defensively but on another day we still get 2 or 3. Just felt like one of those afternoons

Disappointed with the lull in the crowd second half. The players were giving their all and needed more from the fans. I know there’s nerves etc but feels like we’re turning into a ‘sing when we’re winning’ crowd at home

What was fucking annoying (apart from Soton antics and the officials) was the complete lack of urgency from our players.

When we start like we did yesterday, slowing passing the ball from side to side, with no tempo or rhythm-we usually start making mistakes-Milan did that all game. Not controlling the ball, sloppy passes, losing possession.

Soton were man marking all over the pitch but there was zero movement from anyone-front players were largely standing around like statues.

But also when the opportunities were there to pass between the lines quickly we took too long and lacked conviction.

We start better on the front foot, pressing hard and moving the ball quickly.

Yesterday it was obvious that a lot of the players were very lethargic, I do think picking Eccles was a wrong choice, I understand why Lamps did-as Soton pack the midfield and he wanted an extra player in there. But Eccles is NOT a number 10 & he seemed lost at times.

Should have tried Esse in there given a chance to roam, pick the ball on the turn and find space.

A number of reasons why we lost yesterday-Frank was out thought tactically, the players lacked urgency, wrong players picked and our composure in front of goal was shocking.

Could’ve got a point.

Swansea got a Home record as good as ours-another tough game next week that we’ll lose if we sleep walk into it like we did against Soton.

Was slow at the back with repetitive passes to Wolfie who struggled to find a way through - Ston were quick whenever they got possession- but they were dirty bastards

100% this. I said yesterday it’s one of those days and we’ll be fine but there was zero intensity until we scored the pen.

It was like promotion was sealed and it was a dead rubber. Granted though, if Kitch scores instead of a worldie save, we go in at HT 1 up, they have to come out and play. As it turns out, with them going 1 up, they could then go low block and use dark arts still.

But again, lack of intensity it looked more likely they go 2 up than us to equalise. It was only the penalty that got us going.

Luckily, most results went our way so we chalk it off and go again.
