Tactically - Lampard is pretty good (1 Viewer)

We were struggling without a midfielder like Onweke - our upturn has occurred since his signing - hardly a coincidence
“Onweke” has been excellent and has made the tactical switch that needed to be made as smooth as could be hoped. My point is that yesterday showed that his presence in the side is not a prerequisite for our success. Nor do we need to rely on the host of new wingers that we signed, let alone the various other unsigned players we were told were necessary to turn our season round.

Onyeka has made a huge difference.

It's that breaking up play and steadying influence that we were missing. It's been invaluable

Some just don't want to admit it was a blip that most teams get . They want to justify their bedwetting by saying if we hadn't got all these new players I would have been proven right etc

So obvious

Which is exactly the flip side of the point i make about people wetting the bed when an opposition team strings a few wins together. Some people genuinely thought Watford were catching us at one point! Just a generic Championship winning run that was destined to die off.

Really we were playing open expansive football and our midfield was wide open .. we were dropping points

Since weve got your man onyeka in and with lati going at the back weve played quite conservative defensive / counter football and have started winning again

Lampard had to do something and he did but the signing allowed it

Bristol we continued in the same fashion really until the red. It looked like we were missing onyeka in midfield

We did need new players,we were stretched.
We were light on wingers and the new additions have definitely helped us im not gonna deny that

But some are acting like the players we had from the start can't get the job done themselves but they can and already have many many times and will continue to do so if required

We were light on wingers, then subsequently signed three of them and none of them played a single minute yesterday. Bar 15 minutes of Onyeka at the end, it was the same side we could have put out in September.

That’s before we get on to how we also desperately needed to sign a new CB, and a new striker, and a Grimes replacement…

If the same players had been playing every week from september and we made no signings i doubt wed be top now

Well Esse and Onyeka are the only January signings who’ve played any meaningful minutes and they’ve both been good. But I think the hysteria about the supposed lack of quality and depth in the squad through January (and last summer) has been shown up by this last run somewhat. Players like Latibeaudiere, Eccles and BTA would have been out the door long ago if some fans had their way, instead they’ve all had good seasons.

The wingers have allowed us to rest players and train eleven vs eleven. I don’t think you can write off their impact. The change in how we set up started with Oxford really. We stopped being quite so open.

In fairness onyeka has started 4 of our 5 wins , i get you but i think the signing itself was pivitol to a change of style too
