They hinge on us winning 6 games out of 10.

It's 6 out of 11 but let's not nitpick.

Bristol City v Coventry
Coventry v Preston
Coventry v Sheffield Wednesday
Coventry v Derby
Hull v Coventry
Blackburn v Coventry
Coventry v Portsmouth

I can see 6 wins out of that lot. We also have another 2 home games. After tomorrow's game against Bristol City we have 6 home games from our last 10.

If we can win just 6 of our remaining 11 games and lose the other 5 Ipswich would have to win 8 from their remaining 12. We have Southampton at home that I haven't counted. They have Southampton away. They also have Middlesbrough to play.

Of course we're not safe yet. But I wouldn't swap our 5 points plus GD and remaining games with either Ipswich or Middlesbrough.

All 3 teams play Sheff W, so I wasn’t counting that.

I think Millwall very much need to be in the conversation, have both Ipswich and Middlesbrough too play, they just need to match what Middlesbrough do and win those 2 games, they will quite rightly think they have a fantastic opportunity to nick the final automatic promotion spot.

The fucking game has gone! Imagine finishing 8th and getting promoted to the Prem. This is bullshit

People said that about finishing 6th when the play offs were introduced in their current format.

I personally don't agree with this but wouldn't be surprised to see it widely accepted after a season or two.

It’s all about money, nothing else.

In our darker days, sneaking into 8th and having a shot at the play-offs would’ve been heaven.

Look at Burnley/Sunderland this season. Burnley miles better last year and Sunderland are embarrassing them in the PL - regardless of finishing position last year.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Again, this was said when they were originally introduced.

I think most people would now go mad if they returned to the old top 3 promoted system.

I'm playing devil's advocate a bit here because I don't like the idea but I was dead against the play offs when they were originally introduced and now I think they're great.

Safety net for parachute teams and underperforming money spunkers like Blues. What's not to like?

Exactly

If it was in place this year suddenly Southampton, Sheff Utd and Blues have a much bigger chance of playoffs and Millwall/Hull’s promotion chances shrink dramatically despite being clearly better over the full season.

Won't be to long before the football league is like the MLS and have half the clubs in the league get a playoff spot.
Beginning to hate football.

If it wasn't for my love for Cov I would seriously consider just blanking it.
It's bullshit and more

Got to make sure Birmingham get in there somehow eh

Does feel that way doesn't it. Ensures the likes of Birmingham and Wrexham have more of a chance of the big time every season.

Maybe the format will turn out to not be as bad as everyone thinks in the end, but really not keen on the constant changes to an already working system. Just feels like more Americanisation of football

They are great yes, no need to ruin it

I suppose it gives more midtable teams something to play for so there’s less dead rubber games. There’s no real advantage to finishing 3rd or 4th so a first round bye again gives teams something to play for.

Logistically though, there typically isn’t a close gap between teams in 3rd or 4th place and then 5th and 6th.
