Those stats look decent honestly and that's at Prem level.
Not even 2 season ago either.

Yes people will look at his pass completion but to me he looks perfect, to either play in the 8 when we are against the tougher teams, or in a double pivot with Grimes.

I'm not convinced a double pivot is "ripping it up" anymore than playing a ST at CAM is or playing a back 3.

I'd play Grimes in a similar position and dropping in less.

Just think we’d lose a lot going forwards and not sure Rudoni on his own would pick all that slack up.

We havent had one of those for a while. I cant currently think of the last one we had. Hamer was probably the closest.
O'Hare was our last real ball winner. Hes always looked a bit scrappy, but always had a knack for coming out of 50-50s with the ball and finding a pass. Its something we've really lacked since hes gone. Under pressure he'd be the type to pick the ball up on the edge of our box, scrappily carry it 45 yards and win a free kick on the edge of theirs. Always looked clumsy doing it, but just found a way of coming away with the ball somehow still at his feet.

They need someone feeding them. We can’t just play 604
Thats slightly hyperbolic to be fair.

Its not like playing a flat front 4 or a flat 6.

You have Grimes deepest, Onyeka slightly forward and BTA infront.

Its not as if the wingers dont start deeper too.

More often than not, the CHs and full backs play to Grimes who plays the pass out of midfield. People saying Onyeka is shit at passing is pointless. We need tenacity. Away from home and in games we're leading and struggling to hold on to. In a double pivot, all he has to do is help the defence, win the ball, lay it off on a short pass to Grimes. Even Onyeka can win a tackle and sideways pass 10 yards to Grimes surely? You dont manage 3 seasons in the PL and over 40 intl caps for being dogshit. Honestly, the things people on here will turn their noses up at just to look edgy or ITK is astonishing!

Exactly we need someone who can just have the energy to keep winning the ball.

Fair comments I suppose.

I haven’t seen Onyeka play so I am only going off the Brentford fans comments about how he is terrible on the ball or driving up the pitch but if defensively great. Which is basically Ebou Adams.
Looks quite decent on the ball, he has an eye for a goal and he can tackle, what am I missing?

Do you think there's any chance of him becoming a regular for you again?

If not, seems like a permanent sale would suit better and not sure we'll sanction that now.
Personally, I can't see it. here are some stats:

- 21/22: 12 starts, 1,051 mins played.
- 22/23: 8 starts, 843 mins played.
- 23/24: 11 starts, 1,153 mins played.
- 24/25: 0 starts, 23 mins played (loaned out).
- 25/26: 0 starts, 88 mins played.

Total: 31 starts, 3,158 mins played.

Interesting that of those 31 premier league starts since 2021, he has only completed a full 90 on three occasions - Everton Nov 21, Luton Dec 23 and Brighton Dec 23.

We have signed a young midfielder from Feyenoord who is extremely positive but unfortunately injured this season but when he comes back FO is further down the order.

We havent been shy about our interest for midfielders for example Arsenal's timbers brother. I think we will sign a midfielder and allow Onyeka to leave permanently. Doubt he will ever become a starter for us.

Hope to give you an insight on Frank Onyeka.
He gives 100% and will cover every blade of grass, and is particularly useful at playing a gritty game.
However, on the ball he is genuinely woeful, he has a first touch of a trampoline and absolutely no passing ability. Brentford very rarely get them wrong but we got this one quite wrong. With Grimes already in the midfield, Onyeka wont offer much else.
I try to watch your games on the telly but it is fairly hard now-a-days with our away games and trains being fucked afterwards. however what I have seen is you probably needed a 3 players to secure promotion: a winger (Esse seems to be the solution), a left back (Brau may come good later in his career), and a midfielder alongside Grimes., and perhaps even a striker (although wright may turn consistent and score enough towards the end of the term.) You need someone to drive the ball and have the ability to breach defence with quick passes. Onyeka is not that player, especially not for 8m.

good luck cov, on promotion.
A bit like a Lloyd McGrath then, who helped win us the FACup as part of a beautifully balanced skillfull and tough team.
The Championship is significantly easier than PL and our coaching staff are amazing. He'd fit in fine.

The BBC reported a couple of hours ago that Sheffield United are also interested in him. That could be to replace Hamer if he is indeed off.

Blunts are skint. We'll take both and they'll phone Doug to say thank you for saving their wage bill.

Wilder is very vocal if it looks like they will get 'good' players in, but because of their position in the league they aren't an attractive choice at present, and he has basically admitted he can't get him.
