Championship Goals Record (2 Viewers)

A little later than promised, but on to the round of 24. See out December. Get to Xmas and see how we're looking.

As i mentioned before, I started as a goals thread as we were/are scoring for fun so thought id compare goals records. However, i think we're now (possibly) in the realms of comparing points record teams too. Obviously Fulham in 2021/22 finished on 106 points (even after losing to us twice that season) and im adding Readings 2005/08 108 point record season.

Anyway, on the the stats:

Bolton: 43pts, 48:34. 2nd

Fulham: 48pts, 57:21. 1st

Man City: 45pts, 55:34. 2nd

Leeds: 51pts, 44:15. 1st

Burnley: 48pts, 30:9. 3rd

Reading: 59pts, 48:12. 1st.

So a best points of 59pts meaning we would need 16 points from a possible 18. 5 wins and 1 draw. Not so likely I'd have to say.
An average points total of 58.8. So the same for average points too!

Adding Reading in really makes that difference.

If we take Reading out, we have a highest points tally of 51 from last seasons Leeds. That would be 8 points from a possible 18. 2wins, 2 draws, 2 losses. Or 3 wins and 3 losses would return us a better haul of 9pts.
The average is also then 47. Meaning we'd only need 1 win and 1 draw to remain in touch with the pack.

In terms of goals scored, Man City are the highest scorers with 55.
So another 5 goals to keep up, 6 to better them. 1 goal per game.

In terms of goals, I dont have much worries. Id be surprisednif we couldnt score 6+ in 6 games. Also average points i think we'll be fine. But to keep pace with Reading and pick up 16 points, especially with the teams we've got ahead of us this month, might be a stretch. However, if we're closer to Reading than we are Man City's or Burnleys points by the end of this round, then they might aswell start etching our name on that trophy and getting the sky blue ribbon tied to the handles.

not sure how you are working an average of 58.8 for points with only Reading 0.2 above that and all the others well below - maybe 49 (you divided by 5 instead of 6)

Reading got 106 points. That’s the record. Fulham got 90 points in 21/22.

I think calling Man City “City” if you are a fan of them is entirely correct - it’s always been City or United up there.

Calling them the Sky Blues can fuck right off though. They ain’t having that.

They’re the Citizens they made their choice and they can live with it.

My mates a Man City fan and he refers to them as City or the Sky Blues because he knows it annoys the fuck out of me. I'm triggered just thinking about it.

I can understand calling them city.

But why would he call them the sky blues when that isn’t their nickname? He’s just being disrespectful to his own team, not us

So we're well on average for goals scored. Only Fulham (57) and Man City (55) had scored more. We're still keeping pace even after a pretty barren month for goal scoring.

We're above all 3 goals record teams on Points.
And above Burnley and level with Leeds on the points front, whom, as we know both went on to get 100points. So we're well on course to have a good crack at a 100point season.

I think its safe to say the Reading record ship has probably now sailed. To match that record we would need to win 18 games of our remaining 22 and draw 1. A big ask. But then we've only lost 3 games in 24 (p2 to the same team that we wont have to play again which is a bonus).

Next ill have a look forward to the end of Jan and the 6 games that take us up to Round 30.

That Reading season is absolutely insane when you look at the results. Lost the opening day of the season, didn’t lose again until mid February, and then unbeaten until the end. Probably as close as anyone will ever get to an invincible championship season. Played 8 cup games that season too.

Shows how good we’ve been that we’re not that far off where they were at the 24 game mark, 59 points for them, 51 for us. Looks like a lot of the hard work has already been done, especially with an inconsistent chasing pack.

Hand on heart, none of us will care about breaking that record. I doubt that any non-parachute club could actually do it either.

No, i couldnt give a Monkeys tbh. It'd be nice to break a record or 2. But at this point, just promotion, however that comes or looks will do. Like I said when I started though, this is more of a guide to see how we are doing compared to other teams at the same stage of each season. If we can keep pace points wise with 6 former champions, 3 of which are goal record holders and 3 of which are 100+ points, we're not doing too bad.

Ok, on to January and round 30.

Bolton: 61pts. 63:38. 1st.

Fulham: 64pts. 80:27. 1st

Man City: 61pts. 71:39. 1st.

Leeds: 63pts. 60:19. 1st

Burnley: 58pts. 36:9. 3rd.

Reading: 73pts. 62:16. 1st.

Very interesting that Burnley were only 7 points better off after 30 games than we are currently on 24 games, yet still went on to 100points. Though id rather it not be the case, but to keep up with them all we'd need is 2 wins and 1 draw and 3 L's. Id rather that not be the case, but still interesting to know that the odd loss here and there (like against Ipswich) really isn't the end of the world.

Anyways, some averages, and best and worst scenarios.

Points wise, Burnley are lowest and finished on 100 (as mentioned above).
Reading aside (we cant catch them on points in this round as even on max points we'd only get to 69points), Fulham are highest points with 64. So that would need 13 points from a possible 18. 4 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss.
Average points would be 63.3 so much the same.
However, removing Reading from the list would give an average of 61.4. Meaning 2 wins and 4 draws. Or 3 wins and 1 draw and 2 losses would keep us there.

I think we'd all bite anyones hand off now for 4W, 1D, 1L. I certainly would.

In terms of goals, we're 26 goals off Fulham. Can we score 26 in 6 games? 4.3goals per game? I think thats asking a lot even by this seasons standards.
However, the average is 62. Thats 11 goals (1.8gpg). 12 would keep us level with Boltons record breaking season tally and id be happy with that tbf.

Happy new year everybody and let's hope tomorrow is our first 3 points towards this block! PUSB WLADITT
