By far our best away performance of the season (4 Viewers)

What they’ve done is incredible. Of course if you can do what they’re doing it’s incredible but I didn’t enjoy last season at all. The team that had got us there was pulled apart, those that came in were either using us a stepping stone or weren’t good enough and it dawns on you very quickly that there’s a far bigger gap between the leagues than there was a few years ago. If you can go up and make a go of it then great but Sunderland are the exception. I hated league one, didn’t enjoy the premier league but love the championship. As you say, each to their own.
I grew up with the club fighting against the odds in the top flight. Quickly it was then fighting against the odds in the second tier, then again in the third tier and again in the fourth.

I’d expect a long tough season in the top flight but it will also bring out the best in our fanbase I think.

Jesus Christ! The fekkin reacharound on this thread to a forum invader crowing after a victory. Read the room and with absolutely zero respect meant, fuck off!

Ooh good luck for the rest of the season??? Bollocks they'll be a threat with their £150m squad, hope they continue to lose.

Ipswich Town were wasting time from the 4thminute. I didn't count but numerous of their players went down with "life threatening injuries".
Cheating is in their dna now probably irreversible. Clearly comes from that snide of a coach.
McKenna is a superb coach. Your take on him is a million miles from what he has brought to the club. No mention of your player going down on 25 minutes to allow a bit of sideline coaching and a tactical break I see?

To be completely honest I and most other Town fans think the squad is ridiculously over-priced/over-paid rather than overpowered. There is some real quality there - Matusiwa our number 5 for example, along with Philogene, Jack Clarke and a couple of others - but also some slightly above average championship players signed for big fees that they have not justified. You’re completely right. Last night they put in a very strong performance against a team that doesn’t have the luxury of being able to rotate to anywhere near the extent that we can.

I still haven’t watched the game back and the only highlights I’ve seen are our two goals. The ref was poor generally. There don’t seem to be many good refs around these days, certainly not in the Championship. At the time, it felt as if a few fairly big (albeit not penalty shouts) went against us but you tend only to focus on those when the result goes against your team. That’s not a dig at all, I’m exactly the same when we get beaten.

You’re going up, probably as champions. Last night doesn’t change that and with Boro losing you’re in the same position you were before kick off with one game less to play.
I thought your boys played exceptionally well last night, it almost looked like you had targeted this match as a cup final, and that's understandable, you are now competing with Borrogh for that second place, so we'll done.

As for us, that was easily our worst home performance of the season, some of our players struggled to get out of first gear, and only our keeper kept us in the game at half time.

Having said that, the first goal was always going to be massive, and it took a cruel deflection to eventually beat Rushworth, and we were gutted not to get at least 1 pen on the night, which would no doubt of changed the outcome of the second half.

Small margins cost us, but theres no doubt we were under par on the night, that's what happens when a small squad has too little time to rest over Christmas/new year.

Anyway, fair play to Ipswich, they played exceptionally well, and deserved the points on that first half display alone.

As you say, your worst home performance and it was definitely our best. On another day despite our overall dominance the result could have been different. It didn’t feel like a cup final to me, but it was a bigger game for us than you. Leeds beat us home and away in the year we went up. Their fans seemed to want to cite that as a reason why they should have been promoted ahead of us, they couldn’t handle that over 46 games we were better than them. It’ll be the same for you this season. You’ll win the league, the two results against us will count for nothing for you at the end of the season .

A real dichotomy, but well have to sample a taste.
We have a theory here that Frank could be thinking about his England prospects when either the current incumbent moves on or a bit later while someone does the interim.

I love McKenna he’s the best manager we’ve had since Sir Bobby in my view BUT had he left immediately after our promotion I believe we’d have done better last season. He was caught between showing loyalty to the players who got us there (Morsy, Broadhead, Chaplin, Woolfy and others) and being ruthless enough to replace them in the summer before the premier league. What we ended up with what bloated squad, players who were understandably disgruntled (see Woolfys “politics” quote from a couple of months ago) and new players who were constantly being compared to the players they replaced. A new manager would have found it easier to do what needed to be done.

You all seem to love Lampard and I understand why given the success you’ve had in the last year but if he gets you up and then leaves it might work out well all round.

103 points over the the year feels pretty special here, not sure it would have made any difference but I wonder sometimes if say giving an untried his home debut last night might have been the way to go.

I didn’t realise that that was your overall record in 2025. That is superb and should give you plenty of confidence that you’ve got enough to see it through this season. McKenna’s record in his first two full seasons was so good that it felt as if even questioning any of his decisions was a bit wrong. There’s no doubt he made mistakes though just as Lampard gets things wrong sometimes. Walking back to the car after the game last night I was quite surprised at how much criticism there was of the performance, tactics and Lampard. The shouting when our keeper had the ball at his feet wasn’t expected either. Lampard’s post match comments about that were spot on - we wanted your forwards to press us, it’s how we play. We struggle when teams sit back a bit and let us have the first 40 yards of the pitch.

I’ll watch it back tomorrow and if there were 3 stonewall pens missed I’ll pop back and apologise.

I didn’t agree with Woolfy getting any stick but since he left he has stirred the pot a bit, firstly with comments about “politics” being the reason he couldn’t get in the team and a few rumours have also been flying around regarding some of the things he did before he left. As far as I’m concerned, he’s a local lad who did us proud and I hope he goes on to win promotion with you.
A few rumours eh

Not facts.

Why do so many prefer to believe rumours over fact?

There’s definitely a significant amount of truth in what is being said but there’s some embellishment too. I like Woolfy, posted as much on here when you signed him. He’s a good player and did very well for us. Being a local lad means a lot of people know him and his family, it’s hard to keep some things quiet. He didn’t cover himself in glory off the pitch towards the end of his time at the club. I thought taunting him last night was unnecessary and wrong.

I saw you do the same at Blackburn this season.
I suspect its every game when it's tight for McKenna. Norwich did the same up here this season. Maybe it's an East Anglian thing. I'm sure they learn't the dark arts from you.
