It is, but I’ve seen a number of comments now that the timing of these allegations alone is enough to say they’re not true or suspiciously motivated. We have seen many instances now where claims are made a long time after the alleged incidents.

People should feel secure in coming forward and equally those accused should then be allowed to defend themselves and the claims then proven or disproven either way. Farage being ‘one of the lads’ shouldn’t have an impact on that.

I have been at White Hart Lane and heard certain CCFC fans sing "the song" - it was distasteful and stupid but not to my understanding illegal.

50 year old hearsay from schoolboy days.
An era when his hypocrite accusers would have routinely used terms such as the n word, the p word and worse because it was commonplace.

Which fortress was built in the 1370s to defend one of the Gates of Paris and was later used as a state prison by Cardinal Richelieu?

He's so incredibly thin skinned.

It's this kind of thing that will lose him an election, he'll get too tetchy when put under any scrutiny and it's not a good look. Corbyn had the same issue.

Truss, Kwarteng and Shapps would all surely be worse, that’s just off the top of my head.

Fifteen years ago I had to address a large meeting, in one of the committee rooms in the House of Commons, which was chaired by Grant Shapps. He came across, perhaps a little to my surprise, as a very nice and very bright guy. Somewhat different to how he comes across on TV.

You tell me!

Farage seems very relaxed about it all, that much is clear.
Firstly, it is a double standard. The BBC/ITV aired actors wearing black face and comedians who told racist/homophobic jokes in the 1970s so if they want to bring up the past, that should be exposed.

If you’ve been accused of something you’ve not done, normal people get defensive.

Corbyn was v tetchy when questioned on anti-semitism in the Labour Party under his leadership… does this mean he was guilty of being an anti-Semite?

Farage, like Corbyn in previous years, are indignant that the sideshow is politically motivated and a distraction from the real issues. We’re talking about what a child may or may not have said, it’s a waste of time.

Important to remember that he’s not rattled by this

The BBC, the channel of sex offenders Jimmy Savile, Stuart Hall, Rolf Harris and Dave Lee Travis that has a statue by practitioner of bestiality and incest Eric Gill adorning the entrance of Broadcasting House. The BBC that reflected the casual racism of the 1960s and 70s in its programs. That BBC?

Look at the air time Jimmy Saville was given, even when plenty of people at the stations new what he was up to.

I don’t think it’s any secret what the BBC aired on national television. Farage says the BBC should apologise - I expect you think he should also apologise in that case?

Farage should apologise if the allegations are found to be true and therein lies the problem - they can’t be proven.

No, that post is clearly about ITV?

The BBC is fully aware it used to air some pretty awful stuff, hence it's withdrawal from viewing. Something they wouldn't deny.

Farage's only defence is 'but there was lots of racism then!'
No it really isn’t. He flatly denies the allegations and is rightfully calling out a double standard of speculating whether or not he said racist things as a teenager.

So what exactly is the double standard here? We seem to be in agreement that racist language is bad and the people responsible for it should apologise for it and not be considered credible authority figures - that’s how I feel about BBC executives from the 1970s, anyway.

Well it's not a double standard is it 😂

The BBC have been called out for their racist programming. Now Farage is being called out. Seems pretty balanced to me.

I’ve just explained it to you…

The bottom line is that the allegations are unverifiable and in any case, the BBC/ITV are hardly in a place to pontificate on this when their own organisation was about what teenager said on a school playground.

If Farage said what was alleged in more recent years as a party leader, then it’s a serious matter.

Where’s the proof that the allegations are correct?

More importantly, are they views he holds today? Of course not.

You certain of the last sentence ?? That’s the only plausible reason he’s pissed off

Sorry, you’re going to have to explain to me why Farage shouldn’t be held accountable for what he said as a kid, but an ITV News journalist should be held accountable for what Bernard Manning said before he was even born.

If you can prove he said what was said, by all means he should be held accountable.

You’re taking the allegation as gospel when nothing corroborates the claims as of today.

I haven’t said anything about the allegations?

Look, I actually have some sympathy for the argument that you shouldn’t be judged by what you did as a kid, and if the allegations are shown to be true then it wouldn’t even change my opinion of Farage that much - I doubt it would for many others too. But his argument here about why he shouldn’t even be questioned about it by BBC or ITV journalists is nonsensical.

Farage' sentire political career is a politically motivated sideshow to distract from the real issues.

Pretty sure the BBC and ITV have firstly acknowledged past indiscretions and then apologised for them.

Maybe when you mean double standards you mean Ferage downplaying his past indiscretions, then blaming the victims for A) having the audacity to remember them and the B) taking it personally. That must be the double standard that you mean.

I can’t help but feel that this probably would have gone away by now if he’d simply acknowledged what happened stating regret and wholeheartedly apologising to his victims.

Mind you might be too late now as stories are starting to come out and resurface about his choice words as an adult including using the N word to UKIP colleagues in meetings including to UKIP’s founder Alan Sked.

There’s a level of righteous indignation there imo. If you’re accused of something and you deny and it keeps getting brought up without any concrete evidence, I’d also be agitated.

Perhaps some of you are a bit more laid back. Then again, I’m quite a defensive person.

What would “concrete evidence” be in your opinion?

I mean he’s admitted it but blamed the victims for having having a memory of it and taking it too personally. We’re up to 20 victims I think at the last count, one of his former teachers also recalled him saying similar/the same things. The founder of UKIP recalls him using the N word when they argued over letting former NF members join UKIP, Ferage was pro NF members by the way and many more examples. There’s not just examples of Ferage saying racist stuff as a silly teenager showing off to other bullies. There’s clear evidence that there’s a pattern of behaviour that followed him into adulthood and indeed his political life.
