People going on like we chose to let them have control of the second half. Nope, no sky blue tinted goggles here is there?…

I suppose Lampard was going mad on the touchline because he was happy with how it was going?
Do we think all other teams are going to roll over for us? Watford have some good players and we won while missing a couple of key players of our own.
The mood in this thread is weird to me tbh.

I’m trying to tell myself that
At 2-0 I was concerned about our defending rather than enjoying two early goals and a keeping master class
I was concerned at 2 nil for sure, but as soon as that 3rd went in, it was pretty much game over and when the red card was produced, I knew that was it.

The game could have gone either way at 2 nil, but at 3, that was it.

And anyone with any decent memory will know that playing against 10 men often ends up with a second half petering out into nothingness.

For so much of the game, we were completely comfortable. And we ARE a good side that doesn't let in many goals, so the chances of Watford bagging another two, when they only had 10 men, was miniscule.

Torp ACL rumours being bollocks is not only welcome, but shows what a tight and professional ship Lampard is now running

Do not want it to be a slight at MR whatsoever, he will always be a legend - but the amount of stuff that used to come into public domain before being announced by the club, injuries/team news/player departures etc. was unprofessional for a club with ambitions of getting into the Premier League - Lampard seems to have put a stop to it

I like that lampard pretty much said the fans should stop taking it for granted

Some of the posts on here have been pathetic. Even my famous cousin came home talked about how the second half was shit rather than focus on the win and being 3 up by half time

I have said if in previous season and it's still true. If you spend a successful season moaning just to celebrate at the end you really fucked up. Enjoy it now
Your cousin does not exist!

The second half yesterday was like an attack v defence training session, ok they got away on the break, but did anyone think the bloke was going to score?? Rushworth closed him down, but looking at the replay didn't seem to catch him, he jumped and left a trailing leg so the ref had a decision to make, ( one of many dodgy ones )
They were very pacy at times, but pace is wasted if you can't score at the end of it!!!
I never felt they were getting back into it even after the penalty.

Spot on, doesn't matter how we did it or if the atmosphere was a bit flat, we beat a decent side 3-1, more or less game over after 6 mins, guessing we still haven’t played a good side though 😂

Totally agree, we went 2 up and almost lost the idea of how to play. 3 up and a man sent off and we lost the will of how to play. We're almost too good at scoring goals
I’ve don’t think I’ve seen many teams as free flowing with the end result of goals as us. Maybe Man City when they went up?
Once again, we were not overrun second half. Quite the opposite. People just remember the last 10 mins.

I agree, there were large parts of the second half where we were just passing it around snd they couldn't get the ball off us as we moved the line up and back again.

We looked very vulnerable to the long ball over the top of our defence against a couple of quick lads. It was something I thought Lampard would address for the second half but strangely didn't.

If they want doom and gloom go look on Lesta's board and Saints and Nodge and Blunts and Baggies FFS!!!

WTF have we got to be moaning about, giving Watford a slight chance in the second half? A deluded manager saying they dominated the game with 46% posession?

Yeah I should have bought Bidwell on for his pace. 🤣

I've not read any of this thread as I was at the game and the travelling really takes it out of me but has anyone mentioned concerns about the formation with only 2 midfielders playing. We are so open to counter attack & outnumbered which is probably why Watford looked so good yesterday. This is the same as the Blackburn game but wasn't so evident st Portsmouth as a 523/343 & I think this has to be the formation until Torp or Rudoni or both are fit again. Of course it means EMC or Tats missing out but we can always use who doesn't play as an impact sub, Tats probably better as this.

They were dangerous on the break yesterday and their pace will hurt some teams this year, along with their no.10 who I thought was class, and am sure Frank was having a good chat with him at full time. We didn’t defend brilliantly yesterday but Frank and his staff will watch the game on playback to analyse it and every game we learn something new as teams set up differently.
Enjoy the ride, enjoy every game, enjoy the fantastic set up and long live £3.60 🍻😂

Eurgh another person suggesting we might sign an opposition player just because FL was chatting to him ffs

He addressed it when he brought Eccles on but it probably should have happened earlier.

I noticed from the highlights this morning that as MVE is preparing to take the throw that led to the second goal, Jamie Allen is slightly in front of and to the left of Grimes, Grimes points to space to his right and moments later from that space Allen scores, happy to give Grimes the assist for that one!!

I understand people's concerns with today's performance. It was a very odd kind of game. But lets keep it sensible. Watford had a few very good opportunities, but failed to put them away. That apart, I don't recall many 'raids' on our goal?
That's not withstanding a bit of a lacklustre second half from us. Could have been so different had we not had a great start in the first 10 minutes.
Watford made it all too easy getting in behind us. They targeted DeSilva with plenty of success. But I think this is about us being too easy to penetrate. We can't always be 100% and will need some luck when not at our best. Not sure Wolfenden was comfortable. Torp is a miss of course. We have done well without Rudoni but I think we need him back asap as the likes of Eccles are the weaker links. Lets hope we reflect well and re-charge before the next one. Not at our best last couple of games, refresh and pick up the form on Friday.
How do you get targeted JDS out of that game? Sure the pen came down that side, but most of their chances and attacks came down the right.
Rushworth miskicks, Bobby gets bumped over etc etc.
Seems you are biased before we kick off.

You are 3-0 up against 10 men after some tough games with a small squad, and some players like Bobby clearly fatigued.
Like most teams, in the second half, we played keep ball to tire the opposition out like we did against Birmingham.
Unfortunately, Watford didn't get the memo, and their defence which had been abject in the first half dug in. A combination of us not busting a gut, the new manager bounce and the quality in their side up front and in midfield swung the possession marginally in their favour. We lost concentration, hence yellow cards and a soft pen given away. They won the second half, but we had already won the match. We rode our luck, but our striking was clinical, theirs was not.
Wrexham will show if this was a blip, or a sign that injuries and knocks are catching up with us.

Just because a teams good doesn’t make us atrocious though does it.

if we lost to 10 men being 3-0 up, id be with you. But we didn’t. We won playing poorly with a makeshift midfield in the absence of two of our best players.

we move on.
Agreed. Wasn't like Swansea when we were 3 up at home or Man U where we were 3 down.
