Acceptable cheat or not? (3 Viewers)

Okay, so I had a mini stroke two years ago (am fine now) and do suffer from high blood pressure.

I can actually take defeats easier these days compared to when I was much younger, when they would pretty much ruin my weekend. But actually during games now, I can find it a lot more stressful at times.

Anyway, getting to the point, what I did tonight and have also done once before this season, is to cheat a little.

So, I have NOW, which is notoriously known for being around 2 mins or so behind the live action. On NOW it could be the 35th minute, but if I go on the BBC Sport website, it's 37 mins gone

As a side note, I only do this when there is danger from the opposition and not when we have the ball.

I think one incident, as an example. We were leading 1-0 and they had a free kick in a very dangerous area.

I was getting stressed, so quickly went on the BBC site and saw it was 2 mins ahead and that we were still winning 1 nil, so I knew the free kick didn't come to anything.

I know it's slightly nuts, but it does save my heart. 😂

Is this acceptable cheating?

I also remember during the Women's Euro's, when it came to pens, I just paused the live TV and waited til I knew the outcome, before watching it all back. 😂 Again, my poor heart couldn't take it.

Anyway, it really worked for me tonight and I am very much intending on doing it again in upcoming matches. 🤪

Opposition get a dangerous situation on the attack, I check the BBC website, to see if it actually came to anything

I was watching on Now TV and refreshing Flashscore like mad when we went into the 96th minute, not sure why the ref added so much extra on to the extra.

I must admit, when they had that corner in the 98th minute, I looked at the live score app and it said full time 1-2

Saved me from having a little accident in my trousers.

Call me old fashioned but I cant stand female commentators or 'experts' in a game. The Now commentary was dire so much so that I turned the volume down in the second half and tried to run the Cov commentary, only to find they were two or so minutes behind Now!

I did this for that Ben Wilson last minute equaliser away at Blackburn during the play-off final season. We won the corner, I checked the flashscores app which is usually 30 seconds a head of the stream, and it said that we scored. Turned the stream back on in time for the goal only to see our goalkeeper scored!

I'm glad your health is doing ok Otis. I think anything that keeps you alive is fair game at this point!

I am coaching a lot out here in Czech these days, it's 7th division so nothing crazy, but it's 2 men's teams and a women's team under my umbrella, of which I directly manage the Men's first team. It has ruined football for me in general. Cov games are the closest I can get to watching a game without constantly analysing from a technical and tactical perspective. The unbridled tribal passion still takes over. Any other games and I'm watching anything but the ball: defensive shapes, attacking movements, individual battles etc. Completely killed my love for just sitting with a pint and watching footy.

Mate, I’ve been doing this for years. Saved me when we lost to Sunderland.

I, touch wood, have no known heart condition. But I do the exact same. I watch on a naughty stick which is always around 2 mins behind. When the opposition have a corner or similar, I open SkyBet and check. I breathe a sigh of relief knowing I can watch the corner in peace. However this horrendously backfired on me in the play off second leg at Sunderland! I saw they had scored on SkyBet and then had to endure watching it.

I watched tonight’s game on NOW Otis and it was 2 mins behind and at 1-0 my phone pinged as in a goal alert and at that exact moment Pompey had the ball outside our our box and I thought “oh no, it’s 1-1” only for us to break away and score a 2nd! Double whammy 🤣

Man up Otis, you wimp… ;)

having had 2 heart attacks, I’ve had to learn to lessen my reaction to poor play, bad ref decisions and losing goals. I’m quite relaxed when watching now (although my wife doesn’t think so, but she forgets what I used to be like :D)

it’s a mindset change from what I used to be like, but well worth it. I can watch the match without checking the score elsewhere with no problem (I have to when we’re at home…) just practice being calmer if you can, but to echo the others, do what you need to to survive.

Otis, as far as I’m concerned you do exactly as you please mate, sorry to hear you’ve had issues but very pleased to hear that you’re now well on the mend.
Without knowing me you helped me out with tickets for Wembley v Oxford, for which I will always be grateful & not forget.
Take care mate 🩵

Always love hearing your stories. I actually just moved to Morava this week so aren’t a million miles away. If you need any players please let me know! I am a decent centre back, but even better goalkeeper. Happy to move in the immediate time frame to get going as I have a club in the UK at a decent standard, but commitment is hard due to the travel.

@Otis I don't think you are cheating at all. The stress CWR put us under over the years is bad enough. As much as we loved Clive, you would think the opposition were about to score at any moment, yet when you see the video images it immediately calmed you down as you knew it was a non-threatening throw at the half way line!
