People are just hearing and seeing what they think or believe all the time now, so can’t seem to empathise with other peoples views at all. Throw in the numerous divisions intentionally being sown by both sides over the past 10 years or so, whether that’s race, gender, class etc etc and a total lack of critical thinking (people just accept what they’re seeing/being told) and it’s no surprise we’re becoming more and more polarised

I’m not immune to this by the way and anyone who thinks they are is deluded.

The design of the algorithms on twitter literally creates an echo chamber, I think social media has whether deliberate or not amplified lots of dangerous lies. It's out of control now.

Yet on a daily basis I have stuff coming up on my feed that can't be considered anything other than far right. Any post I click on I have to scroll through numerous inflammatory comments from blue tick accounts before I get to anything useful.

We all know people are absorbing this stuff and reciting it as fact, we see it on here on a daily basis. Something has been posted on social media and therefore must be true. Yet it often takes only a matter of seconds on google to find something is completely false.

On a side note, the gunshot sounded very heavy. I wondered if it was a longer range rifle. The fact they haven't caught the person could suggest it was someone a bit further away, but who knows. I expect they'll be a huge man hunt now.

The shot was taken from 200 yards apparently. I would expect that the shooter will be well on his way by now.

I don't see any evidence from this year that suggests it's even close. I have noticed an uptick in public disorder in Democratic parts of the country who don't want Trump's fascist interference in their states/towns/cities. When masked goons are going around these areas just randomly grabbing people off the street, people understandably won't tolerate it.

There was no armed insurrection to attempt to prevent Trump taking power this year either, unlike what Trump himself incited after he lost in 2020. It also remains to be seen what the motive of Kirk's murderer was which we can't know until he's been caught.
