think many on here are ignoring the fact hes 20, yeah hes was £2m, yeah we played a good 20 games last year, what were you really expecting? the second coming of Owen? people wrote of gyok in the same way (im not saying they're the same) its not a waste of money, its just early days. i hope he comes back from loan a more focused player (if that was the issue, who knows)

As much as I’m not a fan, the change in management could well have caused great upheaval in his development. I know Viveash was gone before Bassette was on the scene but he’s they type of coaching personality who’d beat Bassette into shape - if attitude was the big problem, Viveash has previous in such cases.

Some take a lot of time and nurturing, if you like, to get to the standard needed and ultimately somewhat succeed. It’s all a gamble, and some players unfortunately have low ceilings and will be found out.

My money is it’s down to both attitude and ability. Could be wrong, it’s just my two penneth and it’s only worth the same as every other opinion on here. However I would question anybody who’d disagree that at the moment he’s in the right place.

As I've said before, Gyokeres was 4 years older than Bassette was at the point of signing them.

Why did he freeze him out?
No idea, rumour is his attitude in training, but only Lampard has the answer, I cant really fault Lampard, because he's virtually frozen Simms out as well, so at least he knows where the problems are.

Some players have really developed under Lampard (Rudoni and Torp for example) others have fallen by the way side, that's just what happens when a new gaffer comes in. I hope he stays here for a couple more transfer windows at least and clears out some of the players who won't make the step up. (There's plenty of them)

There is this desire among his fan club to believe that it’s only Norman’s attitude holding him back, and that’s why he’s been farmed out. The simpler explanation is that he doesn’t make the bench ahead of Obikwu because he’s not as good as Obikwu, and he’s out on loan to the French second division because that’s about his level at the moment. Sometimes it’s just not that deep.

I am not in his fan club, bit think his movement and pace are attributes that are noteworthy, the recruitment team obviously liked him too.
If he was a league one player (ability wise) something Obikuw is hopefully going to be this season in his loan to Lincon. Why did Lampard start him for so many consecutive games in a row vs others in the squad when he first arrived at the club? Frank knows his stuff and a league one level player (Obikuw level) would have stood out like a sore thumb in training and if he was that far from the level needed to be a championship starter he would have been benched far sooner.

While I agree in life it's best not to go down rabbit holes with conspiracy theories as normally the simplest explanation is the right one, however, on this occasion I think there is an attitude component at play.

Frank seems to be strong on values and respect in his dressing room and personally I am all for it.

He will have complained about being dropped and took his ball home probably. Who can blame him when Simmo couldn't score in a knocking shop (as the saying goes!)

No one would even take him in loan.
I don’t think there’s any evidence of Simms being offered out on loan. He’s featured in more games than not this season, he clearly has a role to play in the current squad. Bassette doesn’t, so he went to the best available interested club.

Simms will come again. I think he will be a useful player off the bench if we're chasing a game
