Transfer Rumour 25/26 Summer Transfer Window (50 Viewers)

Gives us a good amount of time to line a bunch of transfers up for January 1st I suppose, but it's begging for luck with injuries yet again which I thought we'd gotten past. Pity.
Unfortunately, there’s a sense of deja vu here because we thought this last year and only secured Grimes before the deadline last year. Paterson signed afterwards.

My gut feeling is that there’ll be a change to the recruitment team because it just seems that we’re struggling to identify the right talent for us.

I don’t think we are struggling to identify the players. Most clubs buy the same data anyway.

We are going after good players but not having fall back options looks pretty amateurish

Without knowing the ins and outs of the recruitment process, it’s two summer windows now where we’ve left significant gaps in the team. If King is saying Lampard is unhappy, whether in jest or not, reveals something hasn’t gone right for whatever reasons. Looking at our bench, the depth just isn’t there to sustain to compete at the v top all season so January needs to be an active window for us imo.

The window got off to a reasonably good start but then nothing happened until deadline day.

There is a massive over simplification of things on here. Basically it comes down to the fact that we’ve got to trust King and his team. They have demonstrated in numerous ways that the good of the club is what they work towards. Let them get on with it.

I keep seeing this comment about Lampard but haven’t seen it anywhere?

On the video, he says he thinks the squad is thin, likes a smaller squad (Doug) and he’s going to meet with Lampard to discuss how he feels the following Wednesday.

I’ve not seen the video myself (if you could send a link, may I have it please) and going off what other people have said. My bad if I’ve got the wrong end of the stick here, I’ve had a busy weekend so not caught up on Cov stuff.

Lampard had said we need a winger so is probably annoyed that we didn’t recruit here. At least we got the CB we needed. I’m interested to see how he feels about letting Sheaf go and if he’s happy to press on with Torp-Grimes-Eccles-Allen.

Here you go bud.

I get the impression we want a smaller sized squad but ended up with a bit less then we’d like.

I imagine that they sat down at the end of last season, Lampard will have said where he wants the recruitment team to concentrate and trusted them to do their jobs. Quite simply they haven't, it looks like by allowing the perfect to be the enemy of the good.

It's not been a disaster but it's certainly been sub-optimal and as you said above, not for the first time. We did at least have Woolfenden in the pipeline in case the Hughes deal didn't come off, but I'm assuming we pivoted late for Rak-Sakyi once our main target went elsewhere.

Who leads on negotiating? I've seen a lot of people slating Dean Austin but isn't he just the scout. Does King not lead on negotiating?
See I thought Doug led once all three agreed on a player based on previous interviews.

Thought it worked as follows: Lampard tells Austin what he needs and where to position, Austin then gets his scouts and analytics to review and come back to Lampard with a list of potential players.

Lampard picks the ones he rates and then Austin takes the list to King who deals with the finances and gives sign off after Austin has conducted initial checks (ball park figures).

Only think this as we currently lack a director of football who’s job it would be to manage this

We are premium partners of Statsbomb the football data analytical firm.

Lampard and the team will look at what they need from the squad.

Austin will work with Statsbomb to identify players that are undervalued in the market.

Looking especially at European lower leagues.

They’ll have lots of different players as back ups etc.

If you listen to a few old football ceos and folks like Darragh MacAnthony (Peterborough owner) recruitment is a lot more complex and long winded than fans think.

We’ve been spoiled by FIFa and Football manager games.

Lots of different variables and lots of things to go wrong!

Lampard said many times last season that the squad was low on numbers, and its smaller now than it was then.
The headcount is actually less than 22/23. The quality is undoubtedly higher but it’s a 50 game season, injuries/suspensions will happen.

I thought we were looking for one of them? That died quickly

Doesnt even say if its a loan or permenant.

Coventry City missed out on a move for Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi in a deadline deal.

The Sky Blues tried to BUY Rak-Sakyi in the final hours after moves to Celtic and Leicester City broke down.

Rak-Sakyi is now back with Eagles where coach Oliver Glasner has consistently overlooked him and tried to move him out.

Hope that helps ….
