Tbh this is every transfer window, we rarely do much last day biz and we have the usual meltdowns but we do ok in the end

Thats what I'm surprised by. I thought we would doing a lot of trimming of fringe players and loans out.
We're still paying the wage of Simms ffs, who Lampard has shown is getting minimal game time. Surely a review of his contract and coming to an agreement on paying him out could mean we A) Pay him less in the long run? B) Free up a squad space and some wages for somebody else? Even if just a loan.
Lati, not good enough. Allen, not good enough. Bidwell, not good enough. I know we've not had offers for them (and rightly so) but we can't carry players like this in to the prem.

Even if half of them are only loaned out, it frees up a bit of wage money to bring others in.

@Jimmy87 said we were after Hughes and Woolfenden

I’m sorry if you’re selling your Captain on deadline day there should be a replacement in

it’s really poor

He’s not a captain on a ship. It hardly will be a mutiny. His constant injuries I suspect will have pissed off a lot of people,

He was Robins' captain. He wouldn't have been Frank's for much longer had he stayed.

How are we weaker in defence?

Including the GK, I'd argue we've got a better keeper, got rid of Binks who many hated and replaced him with Wolfenden and also brought in Brau and KHH. Oh, and got rid of Collins.

We're definitely stronger in defence. Potentially we could get a 4th CB for added cover but there's no way we're weaker.
I think we're stronger once Woolfenden comes in. Need to see that officially done though!

Midfield a slight concern now. Hoping they have something lined up if we've let Sheaf go.

Not too concerned in attack. Would be nice to have another option but not essential.

Its also very hard to get high quality players to agree to sit on the bench , there must be some realistic expectation about the quality of players to bulk the squad

Why are we having a meltdown at what was a very predictable final transfer day?

Summer 23 - we lost Hamer late on with no replacement
Summer 24 - we lost Palmer on the last day with no replacement

Pretty clear to me that today would be quiet with 1 in, maybe 2 if we are extremely lucky.

I dont think we have done enough business theres still a glaringly unbalanced side that I cant imagine FL is too happy with. No need for all the screeching though.

Allen and Eccles have played midfield for us plenty of times in the past few years.

They've both played in two play offs and an FA Cup semi final.

They are two good squad players to have.

Some very short memories. Didn’t we win four on the bounce with Allen playing deep central role just before grimes landed. I think Eccles will come back better this season as well.

Our squad strength is far stronger than it has been in recent years, all are owned bar Rushworth. It would be good to get a couple more over the line but it’s obviously not been for the want of trying. I’d also imagine we’ve turned down some big offers for our top players this summer

But as a player, surely you should back yourself to not be sat on the bench? If you're that good, then fight for a shirt. Rather than sit on the bench and wait for an injury or suspension then go straight back to the bench. Thats what a squad is for. Competition. You think KKH happily left Villa after the season he had at PNE to sit on the bench? Or has he come here to fight for a place in the starting line up? Or BTA? Fans favourite and top scorer at WBA, did he leave to be happy to sit on the bench? Or has he come and fought for his place and taken the opportunity given him with 2 goals and 2 assists?

Really enjoying Matt Smith's monthly meltdown.... we're one more sale away from abandoning all hope, shouting "we're going to get relegated" and crying into his pillow all night.
No none of that.

We’ve just got some superb players and our ground which is absolutely superb

but have we done enough and have we got stronger?

It has been a pretty average window assuming only Woolf joins - but we're stronger than last year

GK: Collins -> Rushworth
RB: Lati -> KKH
CB: Binks -> Woolf
LB: Bidwell -> Brau

That's 4 positions where our options are better than last season.

Only 1 position is weaker (CM). That and the need for a winger are what is stopping it being a good window

We clearly are looking for players in these positions but will only do deals when the fee/wages make sense - which is difficult to do, especially when prices have inflated this summer due to the Americans

defensively yes....

Woolfenden is an upgrade on Binks, and KKH is the depth behind MVE. Goalkeeper is a lot to be desired, but rather than my continuous doubting of him i've got to believe there's a decent goalkeeper in there.

We've sold Sheaf - be honest, does he get in over Grimes? No he doesn't - could we do with a stronger back up? yes. But I doubt he's going to be happy sitting on the bench

We're very much in the conversation for the top 6
