The few melts on here who are trying to find things wrong with it, you included been crying all afternoon
I believe this is the first time I’ve commented on these flags going up.

Also to be clear, I voted to keep the Union going back in 2014. I’m patriotic, but not nationalistic. There is a difference

So stop trying to find fault with having the flag of our own country flying, it’s something you should be proud of

They’re putting it up in places where it will need to be taken down because nothing’s supposed to be hanging off them. It then lets people like Farage claim that it’s because others ‘hate Britain’. But he rightly has gambled that his supporters will on balance believe it’s true.

The councils aren’t going around to people’s houses to take flags down from people’s homes which is what they would be doing if they ‘hated their own country’.

Symbolising what?

A Red Cross on a white background. Couldn’t give a shite either way but it’s a lot nicer than seeing Palestine everywhere which incites just as much, if not more, hate and violence.

Flag shagging this, flag shagging that. It’s more boring than Gyokeres leaving Sporting.

What are they going up for then?

Why don’t you say why you think they are rather play this boring game?

Why are they going up?

I think in and around Birmingham they first started going up as a protest as well as a symbol of patriotism. I’m guessing some of it to do with annoyance surrounding the lack of control over migration, cost of migrant hotels etc but maybe also the Palestine flags being up (and not seeing any England flags)

When the council took the St George’s down so quickly it really riled people. For those that aren’t aware, Birmingham council has been run like a shitshow in recent years, which has culminated in x2 10% pa council tax increase in the past couple of years. For that residents are still receiving worse services including the totally unnecessary bin strike. So rubbish builds up, streets aren’t maintained (so people stop giving a shit), recycling and garden waste not collected all year, potholes not mended etc and yet the council is rushing around to remove St George flags as soon as they go up 🤷‍♂️

I’ve said before the social contract between the public and the state is fracturing.

The social contract is gone, I think social media has killed that dead in the water.

Generally I tend to find this forum isnt in line with the general population in regards to its opinions of immigration levels

Most polls show Brits think immigration levels are way too high and yet I come on here and its never like that .. always the opposite for the most part .

Interesting but you can see why there's so many arguments on here

It does irritate me to be caricatured as wanting open door immigration, let everyone in etc. I too don’t want our country reliant on cheap foreign labour.
It’s ironic because freedom of movement was a topic that united Michael Foot, Tony Benn and Enoch Powell iirc.

Yet, concerns over immigration aren’t caricatured as being fascist or right wing. It’s not and it’s only the internationalist liberals who believe in open borders and frankly, it’s been damaging the ‘social contract’ between government and people. Every PM since Cameron has unequivocally been elected with manifesto pledges to reduce migration and the exact opposite has been delivered.

Low income migration not only harms workers, the mounting costs of allowing unproductive people come to the UK and stay risks undermining our welfare state. Particularly in relation to social housing, the NHS and of course in-work and out-of-work benefits.

When the Labour grandees of the last Labour government (Blunkett & Straw) are arguing of the suspension of the ECHR, it is totemic that the people responsible for enshrining the ECHR and HRA in UK law understand that this has had unintended consequences

Isn’t there a minimum wage limit for people to enter the country since Brexit?

That is a) below median salary and b) many exemptions that are c) exploited.

For example, take the social care visa route. There are more visas handed out than vacancies filled (therefore, high probability of fraud that isn’t being picked up) and in some instances, used to bring in multiple family members. One such example being the average of 9 dependents per skilled worker from Zimbabwean origin.

Chefs are considered ‘skilled workers’ and that applies equally to Michelin star chefs and the local chicken shop. Clearly not the intention of that particular exemption.

I’m saying it could be considered as a provocation towards them, or as an act of intimidation.

Nonsense. If the flag of your residence is a source of fear, it’s probably time to leave.

Would you apply that logic to people hoisting the Palestinian flag being intimidating towards Jewish people?

If your answer is no, you should probably explore that double standard.

I get your point, but I don't like all these flags whapped up with cable ties, it's tacky...

Just ask for permission FFS and get it done right.
