Your obsession with sheaf deems any opinion you have of him invalid tbh . He isnt currently a starter but there isn't many better options to replace grimes should he get injured

It doesn't. It's an entirely valid point that many want to sweep under the carpet. Largely because we have some fans overly sentimental about him that cannot cope with the reality of where we are now as a team.

Whilst my post was a bit pantomime, I am going to bring it up because it wasn't so long ago people mocked me for wanting to play Torp.

He's currently one of the first names on the teamsheet as well, but there was even some clown on the transfer thread the other day saying we need to upgrade him, so whilst we should enjoy the win, let's not completely erase history.

I don’t think anyone cares who starts as long as we’re winning games rather than a sentimental attachment to Sheaf.

Torp has 3 goals already so if he carries on that trajectory, he will be undroppable. Nonetheless, for Day 1, Sheaf was probably still Lampard’s first choice starter alongside Grimes.

I'm fine with Sheaf to deputise for Grimes, but alongside him they're too similar a profile and Sheaf is a less effective version.

Different games are situational too, it’s a long season so there will be games players aren’t available or there’s a tactical requirement to play a more defensive player like Sheaf or Eccles.

For balance purposes, you’d look to shift Sheaf/Eccless (in the future) and bring in more of a creative threat for the times Torp is unavailable.

For a change, none of the goals came from headers. Good to see we’re finding different ways to score.

Looking at FotMob, apparently our xG was 1.27 which I believe has got to be a mistake. That’s less than the opening day v Hull.

We were unbelievably efficient today and we scored from chances that were low xG but Haji x2, BTA and Rudoni’s first were all clear cut chances iirc.
xG on target was 3. Something

I thought some of our chances were pretty clear cut but the stats say only 1 big chance 🤷

Strange day for me. I’m mates with Sam Field (their CM) and watched the game with his family who are staying at our house this weekend. I think I’m the only Cov fan that stopped cheering after 3 😂 brutal.

What a performance by us though. Some of those goals were prem class. How nice is it to start the season well!

Sheaf can fuck off.

A worse burden than O'Hare. Any of the morons saying we're a better team with him in it are rightly silent at the moment. It is of no coincidence that we are killing it without him in the squad.

Looking forwards to all the apologies and christmas cards this year.
Think you might get the odd turd through the letter-box too, though not from me I hasten to add. I broadly agree with you, though I'd phrase it differently. The team has outgrown Sheaf and he's not getting back in to the starting eleven if things continue as they are. Same for Simms. If fit, they'd both be good squad players, but they're not going to be happy with that.

Crikey. It was quite clearly snowing at that time of morning.

Also worth mentioning that despite some of the reactions on here, we were decent against Hull and could have very easily won that game.

Personally unsure how the xG has been calculated for the QPR game as I felt BTAs chance and at least one of Wrights goals were worthy of a relatively high xG number!

Think BTAs goal was the biggest chance and only one above 0.25 which I think is the cut off for big chance. Cant think of any better.

Was really interesting to see Haji dropping deep yesterday and BTA moving into the striker position. QPR back line couldn't handle it.

Maybe Frank does work on something other than just crossing on the training ground.
To accommodate BTA, he’s not being utilised as an out and winger which makes sense. There was a lot of occasions where, in practice, we were attacking in a 4-4-2 shape with Rudoni (who had a free role) doubling up with MVE for overloads/ball progression. Which allowed BTA and Wright to get in the box where they can both impact the game.

Haji looked top class upfront, he is v good in situations where he’s arriving late and needs to hit the ball first time.

Agreed, Torp’s goals were obviously low xG chances and as was Rudoni’s 2nd. The other goals seemed like good quality chances to me but apparently only BTA’s was a ‘big chance’.

Big Chance just meant over 1 in 4 chance of going in. It’s totally arbitrary.

What's with all this xg shite? Doesn't mean a thing. Utter waste of statistics. Does xg make a team play better? Biggest load of crap invented! 🤣

If you’ve ever said “that was an easy chance” then you too indulge in this crap.

Really don’t get the animosity towards xG. Sometimes it tells the story of the game, sometimes it doesn’t. Same as pretty much all stats in isolation.

Ah no, I think it’s generally pretty useful tbh. Just didn’t particularly understand yesterday’s figure / how it was so little. Felt like I knew the ball was going to hit the back of the net before it did for at least 3 of them!
