I know I’m not allowed to say this but as you asked. I don’t think we’ll know for a while. Everyone who has owned the long leasehold to the arena has failed to make any money from it. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ashley was happy to get shot of a loss making enterprise. So I think a lot will hang on can we sweat it like others couldn’t? And we won’t know that for a few years. But I wasn’t as concerned about us moving out the city again as some others so I get that angle.
As a critic of King when I thought he had got rid of Adi, then Mark and put Lampard in as a "Hollywood appointment", I think if anyone can crack it he will. He has turned me from a critic to a fan and I am a cynical bugger by nature.
Depends on how he has got the money to buy the CBS and if there are interest repayments. Governments going back years have screwed up borrowing and repayments gambling on growth and low interest rates that have never arrived.
At this moment in time, I can see the CBS prospering. Despite the feeling in the country not reflecting the reality of things getting better, King has an opportunity to sort the CBS out.
I would like to see the railway problem sorted, the Council to put a Wembley Way (like Sunderland) over the road so it does not need road closures. Get someone in to book bands and entertainment who knows what they are doing. Increase the hotel occupancy, more carnivals, festivals (pop music, cosplay, steampunk, gin, beer) or events that attract Arts Council funding. Even more religious events if they pay their way.

If it’s doable. We all complained the council tried too hard to make it successful with Wasps, who had let’s be honest bigger pull at the time for sponsors and stuff, and they fucked it. ACL and Frasers fucked it with us as paying tenants. We obviously won’t have us as paying tenants because we are us.

I know nothing about how to make a stadium successful financially, I’m a football fan not a stadium fan, and maybe King knows the right people to do it. I just see it as risky when for me if we’ve got a spare £20m lying around (or whatever it cost) I’d rather see it go on the team and get us back to the PL, where I think it’s maybe a different proposition. But again I honestly don’t know.

Come on man, are you genuinely moaning we bought the stadium because you'd rather spend £20 million on players 😆
I don't know whats up with you atm, you need to cheer up. I can give you a hug if you like? Maybe I can persuade a few others and we could do a full on forum cuddle party.

First few games are lovely but we’ve been here a few years ago and ended up 12th so feet on the ground. I think we’ve seen the last two years the squad size bite us, though last season it worked in our favour a bit by the forced formation change, by the end we looked a lot more tired than Sunderland IMO and same against Luton a few years back, Gus and Vik dragged us there and Gus gave out at the end and lost it. So I think like most upper half championship teams we’ll have purple patches and whatever the opposite colour is and we’ll probably end up 6 or so points around that 5-10 spot. That might be enough if we’re top of it to get playoffs but I don’t think we’ll be in a good position to win them compared to finishing 3/4 where you tend to be a little bit more comfortable at the end and not on a mad sprint. Unless you’re unlucky enough to be close to top two and just miss out which levels it up a bit.
You seem to ignore how big it is to keep a whole squad together that has a lot of talent. We're the only side out of the 24 to have done it this season. We're not going to spend the first couple of months of players getting to know each other.

Add this to poor manager appointments for sides that should be at the top without much experience or lack of Championship experience. Compare this with Lampard and his coaching team. Even BTA looks a different player this season.

I know we need another CB minimum but we're in a very good place. Of course we won't be as strong with injuries/suspensions but that's the same for about every club. We dealt with them well last season other than with Dovin.

I've seen nothing to make me change my mind from finishing between 2nd and 4th with our start to the season other than thinking there's a slight possibility of 1st.

Not one of saddles ones !

Fans need to start appreciating what we’ve got, simple as that. Are we perfect, no, but fuck me, a lot of fans of other clubs would rip their right arm off for what we’ve got. Let’s just enjoy it for now

Well it’s not the same for every club. Top four clubs have enough depth that one or two injuries or drops in form don’t derail them. Thats what I think we’re missing. KKH level players and up but in positions where we’re likely to need backup, for me especially creative mid and the wings.

Always up for a cuddle 🤗

Just never been sold that the stadium is anything but an albatross or a turkey or whatever bird it was. Maybe I’m wrong and it does make us millions, I hope so. Just feel that priority was getting us over the line to a proper promotion contender.

Should certainly increase the turnover

Like I see the theory. As King says every club wants to build a ground with an exhibition hall and a hotel and do concerts and we have that. I just think ultimately success on the pitch gets you much more and the arena success is off the back of that. This stadium in L1 isn’t much use as we saw, in the PL it may be a huge asset, but we’ve got to get there.

I just can’t get over how everyone who has owned it has failed or given up. Is it too close to the NEC? Is transport lacking? Or has it just been badly run or as King suggests needs a brand identity? I’m not sure.

Last report I can find just says revenue up.

The one before in April last year said £7m loss I believe. Couldn’t find this years accounts tho.
Have to remember there was a lot of money spent catching up on maintenance that hadn't been done for years hopefully in steady state it will be easier to turn a profit with lower yearly maintenance.

We've played home games in 4 different grounds in the last 12 years, it's been insane.
So I can't see how anyone can see this as anything but brilliant news.
Doesn't mean it won't be without issues, but there are no players I'd prefer to sign over buying the stadium.

I think our current CB situation is really poor and we shouldn't have allowed it to get to the point where we've only got 2 out and out CBs at the club, but after yesterday I couldn't care less, owning the stadium trumps everything else.

Lati is an out and out centre half ??? You might not rate him but that’s his position.

If Doug (and/or his investor mates) have got cash to buy a whole stadium then we’ve definitely got cash for 2 more key signings, that’s how I’m now spinning this 🤣

Taking the opportunity ask the executive chairman about transfers ahead of the final week of the summer window and whether new revenue streams from the purchase of the stadium will help fund quality on the pitch in the future, he told CoventryLive: “It’s interesting you say the business that we’re going to make from the stadium and then transfers for millions of pounds of players. I mean, the reality is, right, if you’re going to invest in players it has to be externally funded today – just for the record – because we don’t make a profit.

“So it (transfers) isn’t coming out of the business and whether I’ve got the Arena or not, we don’t make a profit. So it has to be externally funded.

“So look, I’ve externally funded quite a lot of activity, as you will know, and obviously we sold some players, some great players who’ve gone on to come back into the Premier League. But the reality is it’s all externally funded and it’s building an asset base, a player base that if they can’t get us somewhere, we will enhance their careers and we will get some recompense and we go again.”

He added: “As a business model, that’s the only business model I can think of, so the reality is as we look forward next week we’re always looking for quality and talent to just add the finishing touches.
