De register both Collins and Dovin.
Thats all fine until Rushworth gets injured then we have Wilson and kids. Whether we want it or not i doubt Lampard fancies that scenario no matter how bad Collins is. If Collins could find a buyer though thats a totally different scenario we should take of course

This stinks of us having 3 professional CB's a week ahead of the deadline.

Its poor no matter the way you try and spin it.
I'm not spinning anything.

We're not willing to pay well over the odds for any targets. We're not willing to pay a few million for someone not good enough. So as I said what do you suggest?

He has driven himself down a blind alley and hasn't the honesty to admit he's made contradictory statements. All stems from the ridiculous cheap & cheaper list statement .

I mean the main bids have been for Rushworth and Hughes (and now Woolfenden). We signed Rushworth, Hull are quoting this silly £20m figure for Hughes, which they'll never get, and Woolfenden looks like it could still be on.

We've signed KKH and Brau, outfield first team perm signings?

You're talking some rubbish today.

Neither KKH nor Brau have started a first team game so far. They’re not first team signings they’re potential or backup. Come on let’s not play pretend. We signed Rushworth in a loan (good IMO I wouldn’t have dropped that on a keeper until we’ve seen how Dovin comes back), we’ve spent 3.5m on a backup for MvE who won’t play unless MvE is out. And a free signing who hasn’t managed to displace the left back we all said needed replacing (though me less than others i still think we could have upgraded there).

Meanwhile we’ve let go two crap wingers but wingers none the less and sold a CB and accumulated three LBs.

It’s not great squad building is it? We’re still starting playing players out of position to fill gaps and the first team still feels like it needs freshening up.

Theres quite clearly a middle ground that we haven't struck right with our targets. They seem far to out of our reach.

Lets not get personal now Chris.

It's not personal Sparkes but surely you must admit that there are contradictory statements made on here by yourself which you haven't yet accepted in any way.
What is contradictory about it?

We seem to be targeting players who are too expensive for us, or who we are unwilling to pay a fee for.

So far we have 3 CB's, 3 LB's, 2 Expensive RB's and 4 Goalkeepers.

I was told we have a recruitment team working round the clock, forward planning for any future sales. It sure doesn't appear like it.

At least wait until the window is officially shut before going to this conclusion.

OK we will see.

People said this in June "Most teams haven't done business"

Now we are a week away from the window closing and its still "wait for the end of the window"
We could sign 3 first team players in the next week, nobody knows. Every team wants players signed by the start of the season but it isnt as easy as that. This is why we say wait til the window closes before having your meltdown.

Look back over the years. Each year we've had a high turnover of players the new signings have been called crap. We're finally in a situation where players can have a chance of settling in, watch how the present players prefer to play and feel a part of something good instead of being thrown in at the deep end.

OK for a change those of us like me with soggy sheets, let’s say we make one signing. How much/who would be enough to make you happy?

Anything over £5m for me.

Well it's a fair point because until then business can still be done. We aren't the only team in this league scrabbling around for centre backs either.

I mean you're using the term "first team" wrong then. You mean starting 11.

I think the idea is to introduce Brau gently, I imagine the Championship is a different feel to the Spanish second div, but long term they see him as a starter. KKH - I suspect the idea was that MVE would leave but to me it's no bad thing. There were plenty of times MVE looked like he needed a rest last season or just didn't have his head in the game.

Obviously the idea with Binks leaving is to bring in a new CB - which they're clearly working on. If they don't get one in by the end of the window that's a big miss, but until then I'm not gonna panic.

People want signings for the sake of signings imo. Our form under Lampard has been comfortably play off worthy over a whole season, now it is about making tweaks and incremental improvements, as well as improving the quality of our depth.

I would advocate paying £10m for Hughes.

We have tried now with two pathetic bids which were laughed out the room by Hull.
That's contradictory when you have stated yourself that the value of a player is what fee the club asks for him. In Hughes case £20M
Cheap is bidding for players well under their value just so we can say "we are going for quality"

so you literally just want us to spunk some money on anyone lol

I don’t know who is out there and I don’t think we’d massively overpay. I think a first team championship player costs at least that if they’re going to improve us.

The fee isn't important, but the bare minimum is a decent centre back. Ideally a wide attacking player also, over the moon if we can upgrade one of the strikers.

I mean if everyone is fit then in serious contention for the starting lineup. Most of those mentioned don’t even get in the squad if everyone is fit.

Id really worry about us until Jan but I think id take either and upgrade on Sakamoto/EMC or a CB. Wildcard: upgrade on Torp.

And if we do are you prepared to actually be positive for once?
I am positive. I predicted a win against Derby, I Complimented King on his business sense around ticketing prices. Just because I have been critical of our business this window doesn't mean I'm never positive. That seems like confirmation bias in your own head

League Cup games are first team games.

How about your ideas of what we should do instead of paying well over the odds or bringing in panic buys that are just not good enough.

We know we've put in some big offers for players. The money is there. Doyle has gone to someone with only a short term advantage. Rushworth still came on loan after a big offer wasn't enough. 20m is wanted for another target. We're not looking for squad fillers. We're looking for players that will improve us. Birmingham and Wrexham have skewed transfer fees this season. We have a limited amount of funds that need to be spent wisely.

I think it is right to wait until the end of the window, as seemingly a lot of last minute business always does get done then.

That being said, as it stands I don't buy this whole 'you should be happy with our transfer window otherwise you are an ungrateful fan' kind of angle that I have seen around the last few days. I am not sure throwing stupid money at someone like Doyle would have been the right move either, or bringing people in for the sake of it, but this window has felt a bit lazy. I think it is fair to hold that view.

I think we have a good squad overall, but whilst we should give the club until the end of the window before anyone really wets the bed, we do have a lot of players still hanging around that seemingly should have been moved on, so that alone feels unbalanced and as if we are unorganised. Four goalkeepers, three left backs, two unconvincing strikers, one shitty captain - sounds like a Christmas Carol gone wrong.

Thank you. We had a real opportunity to push on this window and it just feels like we have been in cruise control.

Centre backs tend to be pretty robust, I think I'd be fine with the existing pairing, one of similar ability and Lati as the emergency cover. Everywhere else I really don't like relying on Sakamoto out on the right until January and I'm sure FL doesn't either, if we can sign someone able to play on both wings that's problem solved.

Torp doesn't need an upgrade in my view, Simms certainly does, but he's probably going nowhere.

If he was a 'top' CB there would have been interest from Prem sides. If he was a 'top' Championship player the top Championship sides would have been interested at a fair price. But Manchester City have had their pants down if what has been reported is correct. Either he isn't a 'top' Championship player or there's something wrong with the deal.
We were interested in him, as were Norwich, who knows who else was.

It looks like everyone was priced out except Wrexham who appear to have very deep pockets at the moment.
Like I've said before, if they stay up im sure they'll be happy with the deal.

The Doyle deal may not of suited us, but if its good for Wrexham then fair play to them.

We on the other hand, dont seem to be able to sign a CH for love nor money.

Id like to see another forward minded CM who can challenge Torp and step into the Rudoni role if needed. But not as much as the others.

Oh of course, if we pass the deadline with the squad as is I'll be pretty disappointed and more to the point so will the manager. I will still hold fire on predictions of a relegation battle until at least then though.
