Haji scored most of his LW goals during the purple patch under Robins back in Oct-Dec 2023. In the same period, Collins had the highest shot saving % in the league was operating at a high level. People’s perception of Haji at LW hasn’t moved on from there but in reality, he’s been much stronger as a striker than a LW for a long time now.
IIRC, after New Year, 2024, Haji’s goals from LW is Boro, Leeds, Ipswich, Wolves, Oxford, Blackburn and Plymouth (8 goals). Over the same period, he’s scored 13 goals upfront, in less games.
Something people haven’t accounted for when arguing Wright should play LW is that what made it successful under Robins is not how Lampard plays. Many are saying Haji ‘can’t’ play upfront in Lampard’s system, but the could be said about his role at LW. His injuries are a mitigating factor, but he didn’t look good at LW for the period he played there under Lampard.
Under Lampard, the wingers get the ball high up the pitch and generally need to hold width and take players on, that’s not how Haji operated in Robins’ iteration of 4-2-3-1.
