Explain to ne how he breaks down so quickly then Sherlock

Unfortunately we are all different. You can be the best player in the world, but how your skeleton, muscles, joints and tendons hold up to the rigours of football is in part, a genetic lottery. Obviously there are elements of keeping yourself fit, warming up etc but a lot of things like that just depends on who you are.

Unfortunately some of you need a wake up call that he was never that good. He wouldn't still be here if he was. We can argue all day about how we should have cashed in previously, but the demand simply wasn't there for him either, so it is a pointless discussion.

It must be very hard for him, and it is a shame he will be out, because competition for the team is good, but the reality is that he's currently holding us back. Down to, at best, fourth choice, and a very poor decision for the captain's armband, as well as being extremely injury prone.

No serious fan is taking delight in his injury, so this coping mechanism can get in the bin. The only good news is that Eccles will be back soon, and it looks like we'll need him even more now.

I feel sorry for him on a human level but it’s not good enough. It’s not the first time and they aren’t massive impact injuries which can’t be helped.

Everyone needs a look at themselves and decides what’s best.

So why wasn’t it taken off him then?
He couldn’t even start as club captain today.
Sorry, I don’t feel should be or is a captain on the pitch.

This is a niggle i have with FL as he has maintained what was a poor decision to make him captain.

Ofc taking away the armband wont be popular but Sheaf needs to live in the real world and understand whats best for himself and the club. 2 years ago he was talking about how he wanted to get in the england team which sounded delusional even then.

The guy is not captain material and if he is unable to play regularly for us he should be asking for it to be removed.

I thought it quite telling how Grimes spoke in his intervkew, he very much sounded like a leader and Sheaf "one of the players".

Do we all think sheaf wants to be injured 6 minutes into a season worked all pre season and all of a sudden gone in 6 minutes, like someone says maybe not warming up properly. But that is down to coaching staff.

Players rarely get stripped of the captaincy without doing something properly wrong. You run the risk of creating a bigger problem than you had in the first place.

Interesting move to drop your captain on the opening day - even said that he was fine before the match. Obviously he was injured going off but he did not look happy.

Didn't we have a time when we had a club captain, and a team captain or something like that? So someone who represented the club but didn't always play, and the other the captain on the pitch.

This is exactly why I thought Grimes would be made captain this season. You want someone who is going to be playing week in week out. It's ridiculous when we keep changing captain mid-game because of substitutions.

interesting to see that kitching is 2nd captain over grimes..
I think Grimes is well down on the list. He’s been at the club for 8 months and we seem to take length of service as a big factor into captaincy.

I also dont really like the vibes that we’d hand him the armband over some of our own when he was Swansea’s captain not even a year ago.
He can still be a leader without the armband

Really feel for him, he obviously doesn’t want this constant hindrance. When he was good he was dynamic but the injuries have taken their toll and he looks like a guy always skating on thin ice now.

He isn't. Allen is. Hench Allen took the armband yesterday rather than it go back to Kitching. Which suggests Kitching is 3rd choice behind Sheaf and Allen.

A captain nowadays is a pointless thing anyway I feel. It's a tradition, and usually given to a senior player, rather than an actual leader. Especially here atm. For seasons now, we've had captains that warm the bench. Kelly, Sheaf, Allen. It's pointless. Long gone are the days of an actual captain, on the pitch doing the managers job. They dont exist anymore. Your John Terry's, Roy Keanes, Tony Adams'. They're not around any more.
Look at the England team of past years, Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane as captains. Stalwarts and great players, yes. Natural born leaders and captains? Not in a million years!

It's mandatory to have a captain on the field during the game, and to be identified by the armband.

A good captain done properly has a very important role. Anyone who has played football in even an amateur fashion should be able to recognise this. The best person for the job should have the armband, and this should be someone who can lead the team through difficult moments in matches, and orchestrate game management, as well as setting a professional standard and not being a pushover when the team is getting bullied/treated badly, either by the opposition or the referee. They need to be loud and respected.

This business of excusing the fact we have a poor captain is largely denial. You need someone who is a winner, and at present that isn't who we have. Grimes as captain would be the ideal candidate, has experience, and I think would make us overall better as a team.

I feel so sorry for him, probably the toughest time in a player's career is being injured as i can't imagine the physio is remotely pleasant on top of the frustration of not being involved. I get the frustration with his injury record but to read some of the posts on here you'd think he was doing it deliberately. I think fortunately for the club we probably have enough in central midfield to cope with his absence, fingers crossed the others can stay fit.
