There have been an alarming number of accidents and near-misses involving nuclear weapons, most of them for very mundane reasons. The US accidentally dropped four nuclear bombs on Francoist Spain in the 60s, for example.

I suspect if there is a major incident to come, it won’t be an accident.

Never again?

The images of devastation are horrible and I don't think that they will be used again in anger.
It could be argued that in dropping the Bombs that many more lives were saved both in WW2 and in subsequent wars just by the mere threat of them being used again.
Japan had decimated Asia and were not in any mind to surrender until the second bomb landed on Nagasaki.

Do not underestimate the psychopathic tendencies of many of those that reach those sort of positions.

Left entirely to his own devices I could definitely see Trump using one because he's stupid and would just like the feeling of power from it.

The Americans drew up some estimates of probable casualties involved in an invasion of the Japanese home islands which came to some very large, but most likely inflated figure.

What is less well known, but perhaps more significant, is that Stalin was seriously weighing up the idea of pushing even further west until the atomic bombs were dropped and he thought better of it.

Any country using a nuclear weapon against another nuclear power would likely result in most of the planet being dead within hours.

You might not like him, I don't not many do, but he's definitely not stupid.
:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

If there's one thing he definitely is it's stupid.

Literally off the top of my head he suggested people could be injected with bleach to cure covid. Fucking brain the size of a planet hasn't he...

I'd wager he's got a higher IQ than you. He's also done remarkably well in business, in fame and finally in politics. Again I'm going to suggest better than you. Even getting people to follow him is a pretty good skill, and after the first term to come back again is even more remarkable. Laugh all you like, disagree all you like, but you're wrong. He doesn't use his skills for good, and he knows what triggers people. You don't have to like someone to acknowledge their achievements.

Didn’t he inherit 100s of millions and still manage to go bankrupt?

Rich people never really hope bankrupt. I believe 1m too not 100m but could be wrong. Trump towers certainly been profitable for a long time.
*edit wiki foes mention multi millions, but doesn't detract from other interesting parts.

Never actually read his wiki before. Quite an interesting read if you have 5 mins. Mentions many bankruptcy protections and 4000 lawsuits and a whole host of other stuff. Certainly a colourful existence.

He received something like 150m dollars - adjusted for inflation it's about 400m dollars in today's money.

So yeah, he was left an absolute fortune.

I'll bet he doesn't.

His business is based entirely on a property and land empire inherited from his father which it's almost impossible not to make money from, yet he's done his best. He's had numerous casinos go bust, where people literally give you their money and you decide how much they win back. He'd have more money if he'd taken that fortune and put in a normal savings account.

I won't argue that he has some sort of charisma that is unfathomable to me but makes others blindly follow him despite all the evidence saying it's a bad idea. But cult leaders have the same personality so I wouldn't suggest it's that they're massively intelligent people, they just know how to prey on the weak, the vulnerable and the stupid.

And that is largely what success in politics relies on. You can be very successful as a politician but achieve nothing of note. And that's why I've never got involved. I don't have that personality that people will follow regardless and I'm far more interested in improving people's lives than my own personal glory or enrichment and I'm not narcissistic or deluded enough to think I can overcome all the massive barriers that the rich and well-connected would put in the way. And even if I did manage to overcome most of them and get into a position whereby I might be able to make a change I'm pretty sure I'd meet with some tragic 'accident'.

It’s one of the oldest fallacies there is to assume that wealthy and/or powerful people achieved all their wealth and power because of intelligence or skill.
Or even hard work

However many people have achieved success with intelligence skill and hard work

and many people haven’t achieved success despite those things

also what is success

Equally there us duch bias that others can't see success because they're blinkered to it. You can accept success without liking someone.

Can't deny his work rate.
Particularly at 79. Teetotal, family man & Ran the show when he was in Aberdeen recently. Dominated press conferences. Well on top of his brief. Starmer meanwhile was virtually mute as his ideology was verbally decimated piece by piece.

Thoughts with the beautiful people of Hiroshima.
I have had the good fortune to spend a few days there. The rebuild of their City is phenomenal.
What a comeback.

Family man that has cheated on all of his wives numerous times and charged with sexual assault. Plays his kids off one another so they fight for his favour. Teetotal but stuffs his face with junk food all day.

Fair enough he does still get himself about but don't remember Rep's talking about Biden's work rate when he was the same age. Just he was past it and a doddery old fool. Only reason we can't claim the same of Trump is because he's always talked such absolute nonsense no-one can tell if he's suffering mental decline or not.
