Bookish is a decent watch on U&Alibi (who the fuck came up with that channel name?). Six hour long episodes but each story is 2 episodes.
Obviously Sherlock vibes given its not set in present day, post-war in this case, and is written by Mark Gatiss, who also plays the lead role. A good cast and some 'name' guest stars.
Not up there with Sherlock, which is a big ask, but enjoyable enough. Already renewed for a second series.
And I am a sucker for a good title sequence.

Latest episode of its always sunny is brilliant, last 2 episodes have been a real return to previous earlier series in my opinion

Watched Heads of State last night. Gets a bit dull in places and the missus tuned out but I enjoyed it and its message of how wonkish policy is the real action hero. Also nice to see a south Asian woman in an action role, not sure I can remember seeing that before and I thought she played it brilliantly.

Liking it actually. A bit more back to basics and also like how he is now struggling with the modern world (instant Uber feedback and can't pick a lock because it's now a keypad)
So far so good for me and much better than the past 2 or 3 incarnations

It’s definitely in there. Funnily enough there were a couple of other times I was reminded of the office…especially a sketch in the first episode where Jesus is an office manager.

Bring Her Back.
This was a horror that`s been on recently, but seemed to have only got a limited release, so I missed it and ended up streaming it.
It`s from the A24 studios, who`s most recent film was the really good low budget -Talk To Me.
Set in Australia, a teenage brother and sister are placed in temporary foster guardianship, after the death of their dad.
The problem is that the guardian, is trying to bring back her recently deceased teenage daughter using demonic witchcraft, which involves sacrificing the girl she is fostering.
Some parts of the film are off the scale creepy and disturbing, yet other parts just feel flat and pointless, plus it wanders around in the middle.
It`s best described as an effective horror, that could`ve been done better.
Talk To Me is a much better film.

Ballard on Amazon Prime starting Maggie Q. Only a couple of episodes in but its watchable without being anything amazing.
Pretty standard police procedural type show, Ballard runs a cold cases division staffed with an ex-cop and volunteers.
Set in the same universe as Bosch but I've never seen that and so far that doesn't seem to matter apart from a confusing as fuck recap at the start of episode 2 where you'll think you've missed an episode as it covers the episodes of Bosch where the character was first introduced.

"On the run from her troubled past, a young mother is accused of killing her new boss at a flower farm just before discovering he's actually her father."
French-language so I was surprised to find it's been massively popular since release but after watching it makes sense as it's 6 episodes filled with the Harlan Coben type of thing with twists a plenty and people coincidentally stumbling across vital clues as luck would have it so it all flies by. Decent enough for soap opera nonsense.

Up until the last episode I was sure that
the dippy sister's English boyfriend who just turned up on the doorstep had some hand in it, but turns out she was just dippy and he served no purpose. Successful red herring if it was intentional
The hit rate for Big Train was up and down but the best sketches were absolute genius and ridiculously quotable. They didn’t lean too much on recurring bits too.

Watching ‘narrow road to the deep north’; a superb series with some excellent performances but an incredibly tough watch on the brutality of war.

Saw this last night and thought it was really good.
Bloody horrible though in parts, especially that knife scene.
The mental abuse and manipulation is hard watching too.
I also preferred Talk To Me as it seems more of a horror, but still thought Bring Her Back was very good.
Not sure if 100% accurate but I read online that the two writers initially turned down offers from Hollywood who wanted to make the ending more happy and cheery, whereas A24 let them do what they wanted.

Unless I missed it, it didn't really explain why he was a zombie until he went over the white line. I get it was the cult stuff and it was on an old VHS but that was about it.

That left me confused too, as although later on it revealed who he was, there was nothing to say how he`d got there and how he`d become the conduit for the demon during the ceremony ?

I`m a big fan of A24 and if you look at their CV of films, it`s very impressive and varied too, from stuff like Spring Breakers, to the Lighthouse and the Witch ( which scared the life out of me ! )
I think Bring Her Back would`ve been a better watch on the cinema, rather than streaming, as it`d be much more in your face and as such have more of an impact.
The duo who directed Bring Her Back, have also done another horror this year - Marshmallow, which is getting very good word of mouth reviews, which I`m going to try and watch over the weekend.
