The point being Ipswich signed him in a promotion season. Clearly they rated his ability. If Lampard views Torp as more of an attacking midfielder then this could also work

That’s fair mate, like you say we seem well stocked in that position for now but if an outgoings planned then maybe it will happen!

We need someone with legs as at times we're a one man midfield with Grimes playing in the back 3 and Rudoni floating all over the place. The one left has to be able to cover the ground. Travis is a good footballer as well as a mobile shithouse. I'd be happy with him coming in.

Thinking on it I don’t think this is the profile to target unless it’s a back up for Grimes.

Currently we build up in a 3-1-6 with the Grimes pushing in with the two CBs, two wingbacks pushing the overlap, Rudoni allowed really to roam.

That one CM has a difficult role as in his essence we have a vertical line as our midfield centre. You need a true box to box here who can impact both up field and in defence.

I still would look at Lewis O Brien especially when I hear the teams who are trying for him.

So Lampard likes to either play two holding players (Grimes and Sheaf) with Rudoni in front (often away) or 1 holding (Grimes) with two in front (Rudoni + Torp/Sheaf). Allen and Eccles are now impact subs and not really key starters. It does not take much to see why Travis would come in, to sit alongside Grimes when we play two holding midfielders, both of whom like to break forward whilst the other one stays back. He is also cover for Grimes who is key. This makes loads of sense as a buy, good price, good age, good experience and good fit.

Also, put Travis alongside Grimes and we have solid protection from midfield for the back four. A new LB (Miguel Angel Brau), maybe MVE at RB or Kesler-Hayden and the back four and midfield 3 led by Rudoni now looks like it's made in Lampard's image.

2 Solid Wingers with 2 backups and a really effective/strong Striker (i.e. Drogba) and Lampard's 4-3-3 is Chelsea 2009/10.
