Anyone else do the Two Castles run today? First time today, which sadist designed that route?happy with my time but christ there were alot of hills to contend with!
Did my first Ultra yesterday. 33 miles of Dartmoor hills and some of the worst weather I've ever raced in. So glad to get it done and get back to 5ks!View attachment 43546
I think i'll have another go next year, i seem to have really slowed down this year and would like to get back to threatening the pb's i set back in about 2020. It's a hilly course but felt like a good challenge when i'd finished. Congrats to your clubmate! My group had three runners out.... including the female winner (in around 36mins)
That appears on the face of it be a very good time..... i've done quite a few ultras, including a couple with similar stats ( i think 33 miles and perhaps 5000ft, and never got anywhere near that time..... granted they were in winter)
Thanks but I imagine yours were trail whereas this was on Dartmoor roads. I think you're a fair bit quicker than me
My Hoka Clifton 9's have finally died on me, and need a new daily.
What are people running in at the moment.
Yes I've heard good things about the Evo SL. Very interesting.Loved my Clifton 8s, was looking at the 9s recently.
I do most of my daily stuff in Saucony Ride 17 which I really like.
For anything more uptempo my favourite shoe right now though is Adidas Evo SL, incredible shoe.
I am looking for a more cushioned shoe at the moment, Saucony triumph maybe.
Daily running in Asics Novablasts. Quicker efforts in Adidas Evo SL.My Hoka Clifton 9's have finally died on me, and need a new daily.

Recommend both very highly, although the Evo SL does not feel as durable as the Novas, so I wouldn’t be using it as a daily runner (unless you have lots of money to burn). I do really enjoying running in the Evo SL though.
I’ll be buying a pair of Adidas Adios Pro 4 if I get a place into London marathon next year.

It’s going well now, very much back at it. Had what seemed like 2-3 years of very much minimal running. Ticking over at like 10km per week. But I’ve been consistently back up to circa 60-70km a week now for the last 3 months (would like to do more if time allowed) and I’m very much enjoying it.How is your running going?
Seem to remember you were low in the 17's for 5km?
I'll have a look for the group on Strava! It’s going well now, very much back at it. Had what seemed like 2-3 years of very much minimal running. Ticking over at like 10km per week. Typically doing the following per week:
- one interval session of 6x 800m or 6x 1k
- one tempo run (sort of 5-10km at 4:00/km pace) with a warm up and cool down
- several easier long runs 10km+ with maybe a few pushes thrown in on certain runs
Will scale up the difficulty as I continue to build the base. Aiming to do London marathon next year, so building towards that at the moment with the aim to make the eventual marathon specific training block a bit easier hopefully.
The pace is coming back, hit a 17:47 5km recently.
How is your running going? There’s a Skybluestalk group on strava for anyone interested. It’s not very active!
Just joined it and pushed the membership into double figures!I'll have a look for the group on Strava!

Nice one. Best of luck!Nice one....
Yeah its going well.
I had a period of a couple of years where i couldn't break 18mins for 5km, but dropped down to 17:50 last summer, then down to 17:19 in March.
Coming off the fells in a few weeks to spend some substantial time working on my 5km time, with a view to getting it as low as possible in the next year or so. Possibly looking ambitiously towards the minimum qualifying times for the England V40 team if i can make a large improvement.
Will join as well and start using it more.Just joined it and pushed the membership into double figures!
Did a 5k this evening , absolutely sweltering
Not done one yet, mainly due to my poor swimming ability. They are quite a big thing down in Devon so I may one day if I can improve my swimming. More likely I'll do a Duathalon, ideally Run-Bike-Run though I think they're usually the other way aroundDoes anyone on here dabble in triathlons? I’m considering getting into the sport after trying a ‘sprint’ event last week on holiday.
I finished 2nd to last, only finishing above a 77 year old veteran!
My swimming was genuinely terrible.
Jeez that's a workout. How long recovery between sets?We had a track session at Godiva..... absolute ordeal.
5 sets of (2 x 400mtrs with 1 minute rest between)
The 2nd 400 to be 4 seconds quicker than the 1st (general idea being the first rep is at your 3k pace, and the 2nd rep at 1500mtr pace)
Was ok for three sets.... then everything just drained out of my legs..... i kept the 1st reps on target, but couldn't find anything to speed up on the 2nd reps.
My target was 76secs, 72 secs
5 sets were....
77, 73
76, 72
75, 71
75, 74
75, 75
Finished off with 5 x 60mtr sprints.
Was a struggle to jog back to the car afterwards.

It sounds a good session, I will try it soon4 minutes between sets.
Its 4km hard work, which is fairly typical for a summer session (in the winter we're more likely to be doing 4-5 miles of work in longer reps)
Of course, the fact that its generous rest times and a relatively shorter session means the reps are expected to be of good quality...... and the heat obviously didn't help!
The track guys this morning were doing a very sharp 3 x 300mtrs off 7 minute rests...... they would be expected to be absolutely flying.
Isn't that just a case of it being more popular making the mean average slower? My club has a hell of a lot of middle aged slower runners who've joined over the last few years but the best are still as fast as anyone who came before them I wouldve thoughtClub running has gone down the pan.
The standard 30 years ago was insane by comparison.
