He's 20 tbf, i feel like a small handful of players that show ridiculous levels from a very young age have completely ruined peoples expectations of where young players should be. Personally i am still hopeful Obikwu might have a bit of something and he's 21! I think more is expected of Bassette because we paid a fee for him, which i get, but we still have to be realistic.

This is very true and is becoming more prevalent since the Yamal hype. Someone on here claimed the other day a player was too old because he was 27.

He goes to Standard Leige and scores 15 goals, he’s worth 10million.

He goes to Leyton Orient and scores 15 goals, his value barely changes

Or he goes to Standard Leige and sits on the bench and he gets nothing out of the experience. We shouldn't be looking to just boost his monitory value we need to get him sharp and used to the English game.

If we send him where we can start dictating game time then we can actually test him see if he can deliver consistently. I would also put in a loan break so we can bring him back or move him elsewhere depending on how it's going. It's what teams like Brighton do.

A Belgian international striker isn’t going to L1. I see a host of German and Dutch clubs are tracking him as well.
He's not a Belgium international really is he. His cap was because he was brought in from the u21s as a late squad replacement. For experience more than anything. Yes he is highly rated but he desperately needs consistent game time.

Some rumours on Norman going off on loan to Belgium next season.

Norman Bassette, the Belgian striker of Coventry City, is in the sights of Standard Liège and Anderlecht.

Norman Bassette had started his adventure at Coventry City well, but his playing time has greatly decreased since the arrival of Frank Lampard as coach. After scoring two goals at the beginning of the season, he completely disappeared from the base eleven from January and played only about twenty minutes between February and April.
The 20-year-old Belgian feels good in Coventry and the club's management appreciates his commitment. But if the club recruits offensive reinforcements in the coming weeks, Bassette could consider temporarily going elsewhere to get more playing time.
This is where Belgian clubs could have a card to play. The Standard of Liège leaves with a slight advantage: in his youth, Bassette was a subscriber to Sclessin and still dreams of wearing the red and white jersey one day. According to La Dernière Heure, the Standard has recently inquired about his situation.
Anderlecht is also following him closely. Coach Besnik Hasi has already worked with him on loan to KV Malines. At that time, Bassette had scored five goals and shown his potential.
Bassette is currently on vacation, but he hopes to have a real chance to prove himself during the summer preparation with Coventry in July.”

Un ancien du KV Malines et Diable Rouge attire l'attention d'Anderlecht et du Standard

I saw some utter simpleton on instagram say "can they not sign haji or simms instead" - just shows the mentality of some of the morons who purport to follow cov

I’d keep Bassette over simms, simms won’t get any better Bassette’s got the potential, wouldn’t even Loan him out either, give Him a chance to show lf he really wants to be here or not, got the impression he thought he’d be coming here as the main man and got a bit of a reality check

he needs a loan, and we need better than him simms and BTA if we are serious about next year.

I’m questioning how Bassett would fit into the sole striker system that FL favours. He doesn’t seem good at holding up the ball with his back to goal to play others in.
What he doesn’t seem seem suited to is running channels and Torp could be key in playing the right passes for him.

SBT members when the player they hate is actually highly rated

I just can’t fathom how any Coventry City supporter can hate Bassette? From what I’ve seen of him last season albeit he was used very sparingly, anyone with half a brain can see he’s a young very hungry player with a lot of potential, is he the finished article and ready just yet? Clearly not…

His potential is very high and if reaches it we have one hell of a player on our hands. You don’t play for a national team as good as Belgium at such a young age and have decent clubs interested in taking him on loan if he was half as bad as some on here make out.

I dont think anyone has said they hate him, I think its just hyperbole.

So you don’t rate kitching then? Very odd thing to say

My opinion on Kitching is that potentially there is a very good player there. But he needs developing. He needs a few rough edges smoothing out and his attitude needs tweaking. After being left out of the side for a while his attitude did seem to have improved and not getting involved in so much nonsense on the pitch (totally unnecessary nonsense).

Agree he did improve. However, championship is his ceiling, his lack of pace coupled with the concentration lapses ultimately hold him back. Yes he can do a job for us, but if we went up, he would need upgrading OR do we do it now. Absolutely need more pace at back, especially if MVE goes.

You almost are accepting more of the errors from Thomas, because his ceiling is much higher in my view, really think there is a very good centre half who will keep getting better with experience.

So the options are, wait until we get promoted to replace, or sign a premiership ready CB now. I'd suggest the former is more sensible

It was more attitude than ability, only a kid, he’ll learn more with us than playing lower leagues for a season, but can see Bassette wanting a move away
nah, he's not going to start much for us and is at the moment maybe even 4th choice.

Much better for him to go away on loan and start every week.

Simms scored 19 goals year before last.

So it forces you to move the Belgian who’ll need minutes, even though Lampard would probably have him ahead of Simms.

But to call a Belgian international, way off, is simply wrong
What’s the evidence that Lampard prefers him to Simms?

It seems undeniable to me that Bassette is both a Belgian international and also way off it.

Yeah I meant justifiable hype, but he's a once in generation talent at 17, as @TomRad85 alluded to, any player who isn't pulling up trees by 21 seems to be labelled as not good enough
Yes you are right the age bar as certainly lowered.

We don’t yet have the talent coming through at that age to test whether we would blood them or not. I don’t think Robins would have done but Frank might if he believes the player is capable.

Ironically (from both ends of the spectrum) some of those probably think we shouldn't have let go of McFadzean.
