What the hell have I just listened to on CWR? They mentioned this seasons playoffs and a home team not winning a home tie yet. Presenter responds with-
“Oh I didn’t know that” 😳 Jeez!
Some lanyarder also rattling on about probably messing about on her phone instead of watching the 2nd leg tomorrow night like against Middlesbrough 2 years ago?
A fantastic insight into what might happen during the 2nd leg against Sunderland-NOT!
Absolute car crash radio. I look forward to what’s in store during the coming season 2025-26.

They have no idea, it's the same when they did that fans forum. They just pipe up when there's a bandwagon or a drum to be banged.

I'm guessing they mean in all three divisions, not just us and Brizzle!

Yes-just so unprofessional a presenter hosting a phone in/programme regarding the playoffs and not realising that a home team had not won a home tie across all the divisions.
It’s basic research.

True, but i don't suppose that many people listening to CWR would give the shiniest of shits about AFC Wimbledon or Orient, so not the most cardinal of sins in my book.

This is the problem
Local radio has to appeal to the whole of the demographic
Every now and then CCFC has a big day and fans, who don't normally listen to CWR, tune in and expect it to be all about them.

Thats not what they were saying. If you are to do a programme solely based around the club then it should be about them. If so at least get the research done properly.

Need to listen to it on demand to hear his sign off

Did he say goodbye or anything like that?
Yes he mentioned all the years he'd been doing the job and how he'd enjoyed every game even Barnet away, and thanked everyone
for the messages of support he'd had.

Sad we're going to lose someone like Clive and be subjected to more of Lorna Bailey who is simply useless. She reminds me a
lot of Phil Neal on that Graham Taylor documentary years back where he basically just repeated everything Taylor said. Either that
or she goes on about irrelevant things as she doesn't really know what she's talking about.

She's not even a good radio presenter, let alone for any sporting content!

Clive Eakin was commentating on the cricket on CWR this afternoon, so he is still in the area.

Looks like JD is leaving Hits Radio just in time for the new season 👀
Believe he was made redundant, cuts from hit mean all the local shows have been replaced with a national one from London

Hits doing exactly what they promised the radio authorities they wouldn’t do when they took over so many stations.

Assume some sort of minimum legally required period has expired.

Pretty shit how little local radio programming there is now.

It’s all garbage anyway. Does anyone actually listen to CWR apart from the football?

I fancy this to be honest.

Not so much for the actual hour's broadcast, but hopefully he'll have a drink at the bar afterwards.

Would love to hear Clive's thoughts after a few scoops. Both about the BBC and CCFC over the years.

Not sure it’s really Clive’s thing. Probably been organised by CWR. Seems the kind who just wants to slip out of the side door without a fuss.

Greatest Hits Radio have done the same ... buy up what few true independent stations there were, retain a couple of local presenters for a few months, then rebrand as a national station.

Imagine the name mix-ups when he's had a couple of pints!

Coincidence or cuts & redundancies?

Must be knocking on a bit so maybe he's just retiring. Would hate to think that both long serving commentators have been forced out.

He is retiring gently. He stopped doing away games last season or maybe even the season before. John Butler is a gentleman, a great commentator with an encyclopedia knowledge of Coventry Rugby.

Thursday 5th June CWR are broadcasting between 6pm and 7pm a this is your life style programme. Recorded when he thought he was just attending a fans forum

Yeah would be nice to ask why he doubled down and shot people down about the wasps debacle

“There’s no indemnity clause” didn’t get on with Clive’s commentary prior to wasps, that whole thing just made me loathe him

Evidently at the time he was told by the BBC via the council to not be anti wasps or he could find himself out of a job

Found it hard to believe at the time but since all the councils shady dealings with them cunts has come out I really wouldnt be surprised

How can the council control what the BBC reports exactly?

I think the BBC Charter would be what’s stopping a presenter calling a local sports team a bunch of cunts TBH.

The hour with Clive was a lovely listen and quite emotional particularly the little compilation of some of the commentary on goals over the years. He will be so sorely missed, Rob Gurney in his lukewarm tribute made mention of the fact they won't try to replace him but do something different... I really hope we get someone impartial even if they're not like Clive.

I know I am firmly sounding like an old man but the "bants" / "limbs" modern take on football leaves me pretty cold, I hope CWR don't desperately pander to modernise and bring in something that takes away from actually just describing the game. Listening to other iFollow audio streams at games over the last few seasons, you really grow to appreciate the way Clive & Oggy do things.

Particularly enjoyed the tributes from Oggy, Clive Tyldesley and Stephen Pressley... Robins' was almost like he was being held at gunpoint, which is fairly typical :D .

This would be a huge mistake, the demographic of people who listen to CWR for match day commentary I would imagine skews older. If they go after a young audience they'll just loose listeners.

Didn't we have a season where the commentary was on a commercial channel as well and nobody liked that because it was a 'different' style.

However hard the council tried to make a pro-wasps agenda stick and however supine the bbc might have been, there is no way that the local station would have told its chief football presenter to take a particular line for any ideological reason.

The only way that CWR might have taken a view was driven by their own commercial interests, as a station they developed a lot of Wasps programming that they wanted people to listen to. Any pro-wasps agenda was unlikely to have been driven by the council.

FWIW Clive held a pretty good line during all of this. Not pro-wasps and not pro-sisu but pro-ccfc without being the fan with the mic.
