The sight of all those Mexican flags being waved on the streets of a US city whilst the Stars and Stripes is being burnt will resonate strongly with Americans.

As would people burning our Union Flag. It’s not respectful and distracts from the real injustice. I wonder what TACO Trump will be doing next? Tiananmen spectacular?

Seems to be a few photos of the same couple of burning cars being used over and over to make it look bad.

Sending in the marines ffs. They're desperate for it to escalate.

Did Trump call in National guard early, probably as some macho power play over Newsom and quash protests, yes, but let’s not give violent protesters an ‘out’ by suggesting they’re only smashing shit up because of that. Nearly every peaceful protest attracts an element that want to cause harm, set things on fire etc. It’s inexcusable

I’d even flip this around and say that the violence/damage will probably help Trump to retrospectively justify deployment. If protests remained peaceful then he’d have looked like an overreacting idiot

In terms of protests Trump made a rod for his own back by pardoning the Jan 6th lot but residents of California don’t deserve this

You’re missing the point. What he’s doing requires the governor’s consent

You accept that where there’s protests people who want to burn shit will turn up but then lay the blame at the feet of protesters? So banning protest would be the only solution?

Not at all. I just saying that people shouldn’t try to find ways of justifying the violence and destruction that’s come along with the protests.

Considering one of the world's most major and famous cities is apparently under siege to an armed insurrection, you think there'd be loads of footage of buildings being destroyed, violence, gunfire.

I'm sure there must be a good reason why they keep showing the same few cars on fire and none of the violence and destruction.

(apart from journalists being shot with rubber bullets for no reason or unarmed men being intentionally trampled by police horses).

So you are claiming that all is peaceful and hunky dory. 🤭

I’m not missing the point. He’s overriding the system again. I’m saying that violence and causing damage helps to feed his narrative and justifications (retrospective as I said above)
Local law enforcement didn’t want his interference and warned what would happen if he went ahead anyway.

This also ignores that the root cause is ICE agents going in and breaking the law by grabbing anyone they see fit while denying due process or even revealing where people are being dragged off to. You can’t lay the blame for dissent at the door of people standing against the real criminals.

There's been threads on here in the past about the authorities in this country where posters have said if anyone in a position of power came for their family they would kick off with all the force possible yet when it happens in other communities the finger is pointed at people for pushing back.

You have to wonder what sort of mess the States will be in by the time the World Cup comes around next year ?

Trump has been in less than six months and he`s already well on the way to turning the country into a quasi fascist police state.

Why would anyone want to go to a World Cup in America as it is now ?

Will Latino people from outside America feel it`s safe enough to go, will American Latino`s feel it`s safe enough to go ?

Will Europeans boycott it, as they`re doing with American holidays ?

Personally I hope the American part of the World Cup is absolute disaster, no crowds, protests and the rest of the World sticks two fingers up at Trump and his fascist goons by not going.
