100th game doesHe can't, next loss triggers a penalty clause.....
A ton of goals? He scored 13 in 46 of which, 3 were against Rotherham (worst away side in championship history). He's clearly a good player because he's scored a ton of goals last season and had good records at other clubs.
This season has been very stop-start for him. First couple of months he was in and out as Haji, BTA, Bassette all competing. I think he had a couple of good games, particularly against Luton at home, then I think he was injured and didn't play again under Robins. Under Lampard, he's scored goals in 3-5-2 but not so much in a 4-3-3.
As for what he's good at, I do think he wins headers and brings others into play. His touch isn't great, he's not aggressive enough and he's a confidence player, which all do hold him back. Maybe his strengths are more his natural assets rather than skill but that's fine.
At this level, he's a good striker if you can either play to his strengths or have a team that compliments him. He's not a world beater. He's definitely got limitations but at our level, that's standard. The point is, he's shown he can score goals in the Championship.
"Simms only joined the Sky Blues in the summer from Premier League side Everton, joining for a reported fee of £3.5 million, which could rise to £8 million in add-ons.".. what do you think the add-ons were dipstick?
I read today that both Ipswich and Lesturd are showing an interest in Wright. I reckon he'll go to either one of those.

Didn't say I was 'sure', did I? I said "I reckon", which is the same as "I think", or "I guess" or "maybe".Why do you sound so sure?
Fair play to him for that. Thanking the fans and acknowledging he ain’t been at the races .Hopefully comes back rearing to go

Yeah without meaning to interrupt the Souness-Pogba action on this thread, I can’t actually remember one of our players being so open/upfront about their own underperformance.Fair play to him for that. Thanking the fans and acknowledging he ain’t been at the races .

I’m probably quite naive, but I do appreciate this message and, as a fan, it makes me feel he is probably a better choice to keep. I always felt I had to be either Wright or Simms to go not both.Hopefully comes back rearing to go

13 in 46 in the league, 19 in 52 in all comps. We can discount his goals against any teams that suit your narrative though mate.A ton of goals? He scored 13 in 46 of which, 3 were against Rotherham (worst away side in championship history).
You’ve got to be joking with the wins headers part? He wins nothing in the air. Usually mistimes the jump by about a minute and when it’s timed right, weak as piss. As for his link up play, it’s non-existent.
This system we play should suit him to a tee. You’ve just contradicted yourself, as you’ve said he wins headers. We cross the ball more than anyone in the league and have scored more headers than anyone in Europe yet he’s done fuck all. He’s a god awful footballer which would be fine if he was scoring goals by using his height and physicality. But he gives us nothing.
Boro at home, last game of season, they had a spell during second half and we’d hit it long to try and get the defence and midfield up the pitch but it kept just coming back because he couldn’t keep hold of it. As soon as BTA came on, we could get up the pitch and relieve the pressure. I genuinely think that game was the last straw for Lampard.
He scores 1 in 4. That’s good for this level? Like I said, 13 in 46 is last season is hardly prolific is it. He’s poor for this standard and he should be one of the first they are trying to offload.
Break the record down, it’s poor. 26 goals in 99 appearances, isn’t discounting any goals he’s scored. Had a purple patch last year granted, but even then was he really that convincing? I’ve been consistent with my opinion on him since day one. Albeit agree that I thought if he could improve then he could become good. I do disagree in that I do not think he’s improved at all, if I’m honest.13 in 46 in the league, 19 in 52 in all comps. I certainly think he wins the ball in the air and has a presence. However, I think his touch is erratic and he's not clinical enough. Not sure how it's contradictory to say he wins headers but scores more in a front 2. My point is hes got a better goal scoring record when not playing as lone striker and I think theres something systematic about that rather than coincidence. Could be as simple as him not understanding the lone striker role as well and finding himself in goal scoring positions or could be more tactical and he's coached to drag defenders away.
Agree BTA was immense when he came on against Boro. BTA is a more explosive player, came on fresh and made a difference. But, I'd rather we keep Simms.
You'd think, Simms hasn't peaked given his age and attributes. So, if you've got a striker who's currently shown he can score a good number of goals at this level (granted not prolific), is still improving as he's not peaked, has got attributes which hes not making the best of, your business model is to coach the players you buy into better players...and then if you can get him to realise this potential he's at the level of player befitting a top 4 championship side, I'd say that's exactly what you do. Unless of course, you've lined up an upgrade who you're confident is going to do better for you which I don't think is that easy to achieve.
Simms doesn't seem able to win the ball in the air from clearances etc. As has been said, he seems unable to time his jumps much of the time.
However he does seem to do better in the penalty area.
As I recall, he scored (at least) a couple of headers from corners this season.
Perhaps it's part of that thing where he just doesn't look convincing with his back to goal?
