We should have done the same to them Friday night, I posted something in the 1st leg match thread about them throwing coins over and our fans being hit

Of course Sunderland are angels though, a bad word can't be said about them and their passionate, long suffering fanbase

Been reading their forum. They do seem to think they are the best behaved, most innocent fan base of them all.

They would deny throwing coins. Always someone else.

Our strikers really need to up their game tomorrow. Its been several games now since one of them scored. We cant keep relying on Rudi and CBs to score for them

If we’re being brutally honest, these are the games where Wright should be justifying his wage and value and he has been far off the mark. I feel we’ll lose heavily tomorrow as the team are running out of steam, which I can just about stomach. Think we still need another summer window anyway to give this league a proper crack. Buy more depth and a bit more quality (funded by a Vik transfer hopefully).

They've finally sold out. I know the ground holds much more than ours, but this is their biggest game for years, I thought they'd have sold out immediately. Obviously a lot of their part-time fans waited to see how the first leg went. Hopefully all the sweeter when they're leaving on 75 mins at 3 nil down

The Stadium of Light has always been a little big for them it was upgraded to 49k since the late 90s/early noughties and they have never managed to average a full house, not saying that as a slight at them by the way it just does feel a bit unnecessarily too big

Pretty sure they plonked a second tier on the two stands during our ultimately unsuccessful 2006 World Cup bid to get it selected as a venue, and that coincided with the Kevin Phillips era where they were doing well in the Premier League as well

That being said their support is large, no one can deny that - I just think the ground is about 6/7000 seats too big

2 things, firstly, if someone isn't confident we'll win so fucking what? To suggest fans shouldn't turn up unless they're confident is a fucking weird take.

Secondly, going back to the post we're discussing, I think there's a heavy insinuation that the only man to turn over a first leg deficit is our current manager, which I see as a positive.

Well let's wait and see what happens when we get back into the top flight (whenever that is). you also have to take into account segregation. there is no way the police would allow the SAFC fans right next to the away fans so given that the capacity is just under 49k the best crowd we could ever get would be around what turns up tomorrow eg 46k or so.

there was approaching 4000 seats kept for segregation last season in the cup v Newcastle United. the attendance was 45k - which is basically a full house. the police (there were 900 on duty at last seasons Tyne/Wear derby in the FAC). wont allow any more than that v them.

FYI if we ever had the team to take us on to bigger and better things the Stadium Of Light can be extended to a maximum 63000.

In the 1990 game v NUFC - we drew at Roker Park (we missed a penalty and had the penalty taker sent off for kicking the NUFC goalie in the head) and beat them at SJP. the Newcastle United fans invaded the pitch towards the end trying to get the game replayed but the referee was having none of it. He took the players off the pitch and the police cleared the pitch. The game played out to the end.

Sunderland won 2 v 0. Gates & Gabbiadini. What a night that was.

It's Sunderland's biggest game for 2 years when we defeated Luton Town in the play offs at home; in front of 46000. The year before we defeated Sheffield Wednesday in the L1 play offs at the Stadium Of Light, in front of just under 45000.

You wont be aware but Sunderland has played in the play offs 8 times and on Wearside Sunderland's record is won 7 and drawn 1.

Some people are naturally optimistic, some naturally pessimistic.

The essence is following your team through thick and thin regardless of what you think the outcome will be in my opinion.

I've only seen us win away once this season, I've been confident going to all but a couple of games and it's not made a blind bit of difference!
