This Coventry City team has won my heart and support.
As a 48 year old American, I grew up in a generation when “soccer” was not very popular. I played baseball, basketball and our version of football. However, in recent years, I started watching the beautiful game and I was hooked! I can’t believe I never got into it sooner. I wanted a club to support, but I didn’t want to jump on the bandwagon of the Man City’s or Liverpool’s. That felt too easy. I started learning about the Championship teams. Watching YouTube documentaries about the teams and cities they live in. Coventry City stood out for several reasons. I remember Frank Lampard from his playing days at Chelsea. Also, I grew up in Covington, Kentucky (directly across the river from Cincinnati Ohio). Our city goes by the nickname of COV, so it felt right. I have been following the Sky Blues all season. I have learned about the City. I relate to the resilience of the city and club. I want to come and see the Coventry Cathedral, Lady Godiva in all her glory, the Car Museum, the Peeping Tom clock, and much more. Most of all, I am Sky Blue and will be singing along “We’ll live and die in these towns”…..
im the only Coventry City fan I know of in my area. Thanks for letting me share in the passion of this city and team. If they go up (or even if not), I’m going to try to convert some others at my local bar (pub) to Coventry City fans!
