30% isn’t a majority. The fact 30% of the population is stupid and/or racist is not a revelation it’s a fact of democracies.
But it's a mandate? Current Govt says 33.7% was an overwhelming mandate from the electorate for change. In a plurality 30% is significant.
And labelling them "stupid and/or racist" is the type of thinking that put Trump back in the White House.
The argument is whether a protest party +If that is what Reform is) can survive in the long-term or just hang around to make enough of a difference like Farage did with UKIP and Brexit. Let's not ignore the fact that in the 2014 European elections he had UKIP as the largest UK party.

Thinking these people are idiots can be true as well as the reason the likes of Trump get in.

Just because a lot of people believe it and vote for it doesn't make it true. We see that time and again when populists get in,

Can’t be true, our Nige is a champion of the people. He drinks pints and everything!
Which football team does he support? Ever seen him in the stands with the riff raff enjoying a game?

I think it's far more likely he thinks of them as scum. Gullible scum who will vote for him, but scum all the same.

Trump himself is an idiot. Farage however is a well seasoned charlatan who knows how to just light the touch paper with his dog whistling.

People have been screwed over, but not by immigrants.

Nah fuck off. We’ve got people on the right calling the left pedos and all sorts but you’re not allowed to call out the fact that their group is entirely made up of racists, the uneducated, and those willing to stick their lot in with the racists.

This thread is all people moaning about “Johnny foreigner” from their paid up house in 99% white Bedworth or whatever. Why do I have to pander to that exactly but get nothing back?

If you’ve watched Andrea Jenkins or Donald Trump and think they’re bright people capable of running an administration, and you’ve no concerns about the language they use about foreigners, then yes you have shown yourself to be racist and stupid and if you’re such a snowflake that you can’t take that very basic and obvious feedback then cry more quite frankly.

You can have concerns about immigration. I have concerns about immigration. But if all you ever talk about is foreigners you’re a racist.

Case in point comments about the NHS. It’s being propped up by foreign workers far more than the service is being used by immigrants. But that falls on deaf ears.

To be fair people do use that term to describe non by elections i.e. local elections that fall in between general elections.
It’s a bit lazy use of language though which is disguising how bad the reaction to the current government may actually have been. It hasn’t taken 2 years for such poor results to have been delivered. I remain unconvinced that Starmer will enjoy any particular longevity. Will depend whether he grasps the nettle, reshuffles and survives it himself.

See I get your point on this. But those people on the right who you’re trying to convince don’t get shafted by the left as much as everyone would be shafted if reform got in.

as an employee - I can’t understand why anyone would look at reform, read their policies and think “yep - they’re the guys that will defend my rights”

but it’s the dismissive nature and insulting nature that put Trump in the White House - twice.

What comes first, lack of education or racism? Or was it 9/11 followed by 7/7 that initiated a change in attitude? Followed by regular drip drips of actions and offences that are just enough to reinforce the anti- foreigner stance of an approaching critical mass of the voting population.

People with problems caused by decades of right wing economic policies want simple solutions. Farage offers up that all the problems would go away if we got rid of immigrants, as it’s their fault people are being ripped off for the cost of living and public services are in a bad way.

So in desperation for things to improve they follow him.

The recent BBC documentary about immigration is worth a watch.

Lots of talking heads, including the likes of Cameron and Farage, quite openly demonstrating that they couldn’t give a shit about immigration but saw it as an easy route to votes.

Err….

No.

I’m still Tory federation chairman up here, for my sins.

Reform are taking the Conservative Party apart. The views espoused by the DT-R poster are widely held. I’m not going to comment either way other than that.

I will say, there is a revolt against suppression of patriotism going on now.

Humans are tribal.

Here’s a clear point:

Our tribe wears sky blue and eats batches. When on holiday, we are more likely to talk to a stranger wearing a sky blue shirt than a claret-and-blue one. Right? Obviously. Doesn’t mean we will throw a paella at the Villa fan.

People should be allowed to be patriotic about their own tribe. We all cheer on our England team no matter the colour of the player’s skin. You could call that tribalism or patriotism or even nationalism (not to be confused with ethno-nationalism).

To sneer at folks for objecting to people jumping the queue (which is what the majority of boat migrants are doing) is driving more and more to adopt the Reform party.

Let’s say Celtic and Rangers wanted a better life and the EFL announced tonight “we are placing them in the play offs with
Sheff U and Sunderland. Cov and Bristol, sorry chaps”. I’d wager we’d be upset. That isn’t racism, it’s just queue jumping and it’s unfair.

There are a lot of working class people who set their alarms for 6am who are struggling to get by who are upset at unfairness. To label them “stupid” or “cretins” or “racists” is plain sneering.

These people are, on these election results, possibly the silent majority.
The party in government do every press conference with a big union jack behind them you clown

"Fuck off" - nice start.
Blanket labelling Brexiteers as racist didn't stop that regretable bandwagon. Democrats panning anyone considering voting for Trump as "racist and/or stupid" didn't have the desired effect of stopping people voting for him.
Latest polling shows 1 in 5 (22%) 2024 Labour voters would consider voting Reform at next General Election as well as 40% of those who voted Tory. So all parties would seem to have significant numbers of "uneducated racists".
All the former major parties would seem to have their work cut out to stop this Reform bandwagon before it gets out of control.

You described it as dangerous.
What is safe about the 5 points discussed in the video discussion between the Stanford Professor of Epidemiology and Belgium Professor of Physiology & Biophysics I posted?

1: The dose of protein produced is uncontrollable, it can range from virtually none to damaging amounts, dosage in conventional medicines is strictly controlled for safety reasons.
2: Biodistribution of the protein produced is uncontrolled protein production can and has reached and resulted in damage to vital organs like the heart or liver.
3: Pharmacokinetics or how the protein is processed by the body is very variable sensitive to age, metabolism and gender.
4: Translation fidelity and quality of the protein produced, there is an unknown percentage of production errors due to frame shifting, no one can be sure what malformed proteins might do.
5: There is temporary suppression of innate immunity after injection.

At the moment there are 38,541 reports of death and 73,311 reports of permanent disability after these injections in the US Vaccine Adverse Reporting system and far more other reports of adverse effects ranging from life altering to very minor. The number of reports went under 60,000 in the 5 years before 2021 to over 1 million in 2021, thankfully the numbers have dropped again but stiil remain elevated from previous levels, unfortunately much damage was done in 2021 and 2022 particularly.

Better let the Nobel Prize Committee know so they can revoke the medicine prize awarded for mRNA vaccine technology.

You can't call me a hurty name but you're a racist, bigot, stupid, thick, uneducated!

Whether you like Donald Trump or not, to sit on a football forum and call him a "not very bright person" is fucking hilarious! He's a fucking billionaire businessman. Not sure many stoopid people manage to make $5b+ in business do they?

Well for a start he doesn’t understand how tariffs work as he keeps suggesting that the country with the tariff pays the tax. He’s also confused ‘seeking asylum’ with lunatic asylums.

That and he’s been bankrupt countless times and inherited a huge amount of wealth to begin with.

Someone needs to develop and convincingly present / promote an alternative vision without making those who need to change their stance feel that they are being patronise or having the wool pulled over their eyes. Starmer hasn’t got the oratory or commitment to do it. The persuasion skills or rhetoric in reality and every week that goes without some significant impact on the boat gangs him and his team are in a less convincing position.

Jeremy Corbyn did it in 2017 and Bernie Sanders is still doing it now.

Partly correct. Maternity services may be an exception though. High risk and high cost because of that - effectively high insurance costs. Ethnic minority birthrates much higher than those of ethnic majority. Plus complexedly pregnant people from overseas who have no entitlement to NHS services arriving to give birth who get themselves “ back home” before the bill arrives. The latter may be relatively small change but reveals an attitude of entitlement despite there not being one.

Similar abuse is perpetrated by UK expats who are quite happy to live abroad but rush back to stay with relatives the instant a potentially expensive illness strikes.

With my wife’s pregnancy we’ve only been dealing with white British staff. When my dad was in Walsgrave over Christmas though there were signs up asking people not to be racist towards hospital workers.

Draw from it what you will

Jeremy couldn’t have been all that successful in 2017, or the electorate had bigger concerns.

shame Bernie is AmerIcan.
Corbyn got a higher vote share than some of Blair’s elections and he was starting from way behind in the polls.

Bernie is American but his ‘Stop Oligarchy’ rallies have been drawing enormous numbers. The American electorate have never had universal healthcare on the ballot for example, their problems are different.

But a charismatic left wing politician offering substantive improvements for working people is the antidote to right wing snake oil. Offer universal childcare and free school breakfast and lunch and you help millions of families in a raft of ways. The former for example helps women get back to full time work and might help our falling birth rate.

Racism in hospitals is not just one way. I used to get called a white honky in the early days. The person who did it would no doubt have claimed to be joking.

Hope your wife’s pregnancy is going well😚👍

The use of the word “charismatic” decimates UK left wing politicians from potential candidates for such a role.
