Glad that’s been sorted.

Now they need to sort out the absolutely ridiculous rule that they can only step in and sanction if they deem the referee hasn’t seen it. How the Sheffield weds player hasn’t been done is a joke.

Not sure you can have a league table that grades the effects of ignorance or abuse according to the nationality of the sufferer? There are plenty of ‘power dynamics’ between England and its neighbours, and real life effects on people.

In my mind though, the level of offence always depends on the context e.g. attempted humour vs. intentional nastiness. On this forum there’s often the former, very rarely the latter.

Hopefully refs will take a bit more notice to the over the top targeting Saka is getting at the minute.

I am pretty certain - and I will check - that someone was once prosecuted for this and it was identified as a hate speech.

The Saka incident is potentially just as bad.
The player, whoever it was should be made to face to consequences of his thuggery .
Far be it from me to tell Doug King what to do ( well OK then I will ) but I'd talk to the chairman /owner of both the Sheff W and Millwall and tell them we intend to make a big deal of both incidents unless they take appropriate action against the respective players and manager/ coach if they encouraged such behaviour .
If they would not then full steam ahead and see them in court .
This is supposed to be the beautiful game not Saturday night in Glasgow city centre.( Apologies to my Scottish friends)

I suppose the only thing we might gain from this is, that it has been brought to the attention of the powers that be.
Referees are human beings, and hopefully this will put it in the back of their minds.
And sub consciously they just might be on the lookout for it, we can only live in hope.

The trouble is, that to some teams it's just accepted now that it's fair game to target certain players without regard for the rules.
This was an extract from a report on the Norwich game.

"Mark Robins was angered at the lack of protection Tatsuhiro Sakamoto received as he was clearly targeted by Norwich enforcers Marcelino Nunez and Kenny McLean, both of whom were booked for cynical tackles on the Japanese winger inside the first 45 minutes."

“You’ll have to ask him (David Wagner) whether it was a tactic to kick him out of the game, because that’s what it looked like to me,” Robins said. “He gets absolutely zero protection from the referee and then he ends up coming off, and probably bruised and battered for the next few days"

This was Wagner's response.
"CoventryLive duly asked Wagner if it was part of his game plan to target Sakamoto, to which he made no apologies, admitting: “Yes, obviously Sakamoto and O’Hare are two of the standout players in the Championship and good players for Coventry, and if you want to be successful you have to try to get them calm. I can only praise my whole team because it was a team effort to keep them calm, so big credit to my players"

It’s been mentioned several times before on this forum that we’re too complacent when it comes to defending teammates who are getting roughed up by the opposition. Should our management team be encouraging the players to be more proactive in complaining to the ref about this? Perhaps a Micky Doyle coaching session is required?
