We were 13th in the Fair Play table last season and had the 9th highest number of yellow cards, no idea where this "we're too nice" stuff comes from.

Read the OP?

Yes I have, my comments were in relation to the comments in this thread that suggested we've been too nice for years / under Robins.

The OP doesn't really support any conclusion that being nice has a particularly good or bad impact on league performance.

Yeah I generally am quite proud were not shithouses. Though I do feel Gus was more willing to take a yellow (not always for the right reasons granted) and our current DMs seem reluctant to.

There's a joke about DMs and "sliding in" in there somewhere

Not gone so well for Sheffield Wednesday.

No correlation with league table, so not convinced it makes any difference.
Currently doing some statistics based course. Finding the key correlation factors to a high position in table would be most useful. Hopefully Mark becomes a fine statistician soon.

I'm actually proud that very little of the 'dark arts' and 'dirty play' are used by Mark's teams. Gosh I hated some of the tactics Blackburn and Wigan used last year.

Although some stronger tackling would be handy. I remember home game v Sunderland game last season , we tackled them out of the game. I thought our challenges at Millwall and Preston away were very light.

Southampton constantly walked from the point of s throw in as far as they could before releasing the ball. They did it with free kicks as well, until the ref stepped in.

Teams or staff will touch on stuff but really the players will take advantage until they find the refs line. I liked the Brim ref, calling over the captain and saying no more back chat from the players. So its on the players the little stuff the bigger stuff you know managers are telling players to do it.

I dont think Robins is interested in it, he will play the right way, whatever that is.

Surely most would take Allen and Dasilva in with them. On the actual topic I’m not sure we need yellows or that they are an indication of not being nice. Let’s be honest it’s a non contact sport in essence - you can get a yellow for intending to breathe on someone in three games time.

Times have changed since the days of Norman Hunter & Tommy Smith.
Agree that sometimes we should utilise more of the dark arts but it's not a bad thing not to accumulate yellow cards. I'm sure that when entirely necessary players will "take one for the team"

Somewhere between the waitress and her table.
I hate the sly fouls; the shirt tugs, diving etc. It feels like cheating, cynical behaviour. So long as the intent is good, I prefer a mistimed honest foul. Obviously, the risk of injury is greater with the latter but at least it's honest and in a physical game, some injury is inevitable. A deliberate nasty foul is the worst of all though.

So, I think it's something to be proud of.

There's times when we need to play the "dark arts".

Holding onto leads, getting decisions to go our way etc.

We have played against players on a yellow who have then made about 5 more fouls. We don't ever try to wind them up

To be fair, he's has enough work to do on the training pitch getting the players up to speed and all learning new systems etc. I'd rather this than learning how to cheat better.

Kyle Walker-Peters the other night. Booked after half an hour and we left him alone afterwards.

He still should have been sent off about three times.

I can remember a couple more questionable challenges but I doubt he was baited in to them. Even so, beat him to the ball, late trip, off he goes.

Still too soft, when Leeds player down injured we kicked ball into touch. When one of our players was injured Leeds carried on.

Kitching loves it - speaks really softly but well up for it on pitch. Stands up to anyone.

trouble with Micky Doyle was sometimes he was too obvious with it, slapping players on back etc. left a foot in once on zoltan gera and he got sent off.

Yep, always have been under Robins.

Even Adi has calmed down since they've banned staff on the touchline.

There's no one in the side currently I'd want alongside me in a tear up at the pub. We'd be turfed out instantly.

Fancy a pint Kasey?

Disagree on Doyle. I actually thought he knew how far to push it and that the West Brom cup game you refer to was actually an exception. Other than that game I don't remember him ever being sent off for us, which was not too bad in well over 300 games.

Saw this on a Leeds vlog, check out the elbow and headlock by Bamford on Lati off the ball and then Kitching standing-up for his mate in the aftermath 💪 Lati still got up and blocked the Summerville shot as well (6:09 into the vid if it doesn't start there) 💪

Ref turned a blind eye to two/three moments from Leeds players.
