Define much worse than relegation.

Not only getting relegated, coming bottom, less points, being relegated weeks before we did, knowing there was no chance of surviving. Had we beat Brizzle and Peterborough, I reckon we would've beat Donny and stayed up. Of course we didn't but we were close to staying up. Story of our season; we didn't win when we should have.

We finished 8 points adrift, it is not even close.

As I have said, you can tell us how wrong we were when he gets hired elsewhere and is able to unleash his talent properly, we obviously held him back too much. Seeing as you hold him in such high regard as a manager, he won't be out of a job for too long. I suspect there are clubs now contemplating brining him in.

We were effectively relegated after the first 23 games.

True to some extent, but, there was a real oppotunity to stay up when we had Brizzle, P'borough, Millwall and Donny left. FACT. Earlier on in the season, we had a chance to leapfrog forest, we didn't.

In fairness to what you're saying (I look at both sides), we should've done better in all of those games. FACT.

8 points adrist suggests we were safely relegated but, we were v close to survival and had we beaten Brizzle, there would've been a great chance of staying up, we lost (as we all know) and our form declined rapidly as we were relegated when we lost to brizzle, which MAY have cocked up our form. As I believe had we had a good easter weekend, we would've beaten (or not lost atleast) to Millwall and Donny, if it went to the last day, we MAY have nicked a draw, possibly a win had we played a full team with a chance of surivival, we didn't, we got sacked...

The stats you're quoting are rather misleading in a sense, as it doesn't show how close we were at the latter end of our season (pre-p'borough + brizzle away).

At the end of the day we still finished 8 points adrift and we well relegated, you really are clutching at straws.

I respect your opinion that you rate him so much as a manager and I look forward to you proving me wrong.

I never said I rated him as a manager, I analysed the season and tbh, I wanted him sacked end of the season, he got given a chance, I gave him a chance, he got sacked after 3 draws which isn't great, Shaw comes in and loses 3! That to me, especially if the new manager fails, could make him another 'what if' manager.

I can't see him getting back into managment in the foreseeable future, would like to see him get the nod at Chesterfield to see how he does.

4-4-2 doesn't work in football. Yes you get width, but you also get outnumbered in the middle.
4-3-3 works best IMO. The have width but 3 in midfield.

You cant say 4-4-2 doesn't work in football. Its still used throughout all levels of football, even the premier league and national teams. It doesn't work all the time for sure but just because other formations have become more fashionable doesn't make other formations redundant. I also prefer 4-3-3 but that won't make it the best formation for every game. Sometimes teams even attack with one formation and defend with another. Oooohh progressive.

Doesnt matter what formation a team plays if the players in it can not master the basics, concentrate or compete for 90 minutes plus added on time. Players win or lose games when you get it down to real basics........ managers can influence it ........ formations only provide a framework.

Our problem this season has been the under performance of big chunks of the team at any one time. Yes they have periods where they play well but that is more than out weighed by the periods they do not. The formations used may or may not suit but thats academic if the players fail to do basic simple things on the pitch.

Nail on the head OSB, the formation is becoming a scapegoat and a ready made excuse for players failing to perform adequately.

"Forever in my blue jeans" was good at the time but I think we should let Neil retire now. He's past it. Just take your posters down and let it go.

To be fair MMM, caretaker statistics would be ignored anyway and not unreasonably so.

I don't disagree with you dear chap; however, I equally think that Grenduffy would be happily including Shaw's stats should then have compared favorably to Thorn's don't you think?

If we'd have won three league games on the bounce under Shaw, I somehow thing Grenduffy would have such stats the subject of a facial tattoo to piss on Thorn's chips

No I wouldn't - 3 games is no measure to compare anyone against and everyone deserves a fair chance.

I think Adams lost quite a few games early on and then did OK for a period.

Shaw is in caretaker charge and will not be at the helm in a few weeks' time. Fact is that Shaw has lost three out of three but anyone with an ounce of sense realises he isn't to blame for this farce.

hard to include any "caretaker" manager in any stats. By the nature of the appointment a caretaker just keeps things ticking along until a proper appointment is made. A caretaker manager is not in a position to fundamentally change a squad, he may tinker with the system or style but the real decisions on players (keep or not) are not his to make. The tinkering may work (AT's first 10 games) or the position might be so damaged as to fail for the caretaker (as in RS). I do not envy RS in what he has had to deal with ...... kind of had his hands tied by the man who had his tied by the owners last year

5-3-2 got to be worth a shot just to stop leaking goals

For a team hoping for promotion? No! Too many people here just suggest random formations for us to play.

For our team, diamond, 4-3-3*, 4-2-3-1*, 4-5-1* should be the only formations under consideration.

*we need atleast 1 more winger for this to work well.

To the 4-4-2 lovers, get over 4-4-2, it's out-of-date, doesn't suit us and we don't to need to follow the trend, we can be revolutionary!
