Well, we've done better with THIS season than 4-4-2 and 4-5-1, including 3-2 v Brum.

Discuss.

Get some loan wingers in and go 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3

If that did happen, they should be possibilities, but as it is, diamond all the way, imo.

4-4-2 dpesn't work, natural width did fuck all for us and we still got caught on the counter, this time through the middle and still looked exposed out wide.

All this talk is inane bollocks. We don't have the players.

To play the diamond? the formation we haven't lost with in the league yet (v Crewe, we played 4-4-2 2nd half).

What formation suits are players best? 4-4-2!? The same formation where we put in a poor showing v Stevenage (1st 20m was good, but we have had those when we played the diamond, for even longer most games) the players looked uncomfortable and restricted, and the FACT we have * wingers was shown, we're better wingerless!

Don't matter what formation we play at the moment with the players we have there is always going to be a weakness, who ever comes in as manager needs to bring in at least 2 pacey wingers and a playmaker and play 442

Pacey wingers who need to have an end product, pace can only take you so far, no point having pace if you can't; cross, finish nor pass!

Playmaker!? Who!? Fleck will be our playmaker (hopefully), and playmakers in a 4-4-2? Doesn't exist really, as 4-4-2 is made for wingers + wing play.

Barton and Jennings are also more than capable, especially in this league!

I'm not sure we've done better with anything. Its more about poor play than formations. As every potential manager has apparently stated we play too narrow and too slow. That is what we have to rectify but inability to pass, track players, tackle, hit the target will also have to be changed for anything to work.

I'd agree with a lot of that, but it's likely that all the managers want to play a hoofball 4-4-2, which would be disasterous, given that Thorn built a side to play the diamond and play possession football, maybe we haven't done the work off the field, (which might be why we haven't been creating the chances) ultimately pays off on it.

In fairness to Thorn, he was missing 2-3 key cogs in his machine; Fleck, Clarke and Thomas, yes Clarke and Fleck played in the Yeovil game but we ultimatley can't judge on the 1st game of the season.

Thorn built a side to lose football matches.

Well, that wasn't his intention, but, THIS season, he didn't lose, Shaw has lost 3 with the same team, Thorn drawn 3, lost 0% to Shaw's 100% in the league...

The manager has got to hit the ground running or Thorn could become another 'what if' manager.

hahahahaha!!

No doubt he will prove some of us wrong when he shows what he can really do elsewhere, eh? It will be interesting to see which club he decides to manage once some more managers get the boot.

Maybe fleck will be the answer but we need to have some width and pace,we look one dimensional and so easy to defend against.

OMG
As it is our fans are pinning their faith on Sisu (hilarious, I know) and that the next manager won't be hounded out by the same legion of boneheads who think stability is something you do with a knife.:p

Nice to see you are as clueless as ever. What are you suggesting? We should have stuck with thorn? Go on say it and give me my first laugh of the weekend.

Ah yes, Grendel, the clueless brigade's ringmaster.
Are you happier with Shaw.....confident in Sisu making the right choice?

What are you saying they did or didn't make the right choice last time?

I thought Grenduffy would still be quiet mustering an adjective for 100% league-loss Shaw, if unbeaten-this-season Thorn was 'clueless'

So you can't say we NEED a playmaker if Fleck has been injured and could be the answer...

With CMs of Jennings, Fleck, Thomas, Barton, it's just as good as you can get for a L1 side, few will be better! Especially when you take into account our budget as anyone better, we won't be able to afford, or have missed out on.

So assuming the new manager does really bad, worse than Thorn, are you saying, for 1 second, you wouldn't think 'what if'? No? That's a bit naive because since he's left, we're yet to obtain a single point!!! :claping hands:So as of yet, sacking Thorn was a bad decision*

*I personally think it was the right decision to sack Thorn BUT based on results thus far, it's obvious nothing has changed, in fact have gotten worse!

According to you we should be in the top 6 based on wages whoever is manager. Walsall must pay a lot more than I thought they would,

Thorn is the worst manager statistically in our professional history and that includes shaw taking cup matches into account. So unlikely we will get any worse.

No I would not, I would consider the fact that the previous manager failed to address the glaring issue of having no pace or width in the side.

You said taking Shaw into account so I assumed you were taking into account Shaws caretaker manager reign as manager, you tricky devil

I would suggest including Shaw after 3 games would be slightly unfair regardless of title. Including someone based on 60 plus games though is perfectly reasonable.

Shaw has had 5 games though

Shaw would have done much worse if he was our manager in the championship last year

Well, Thorn got sacked after 3 games, Shaw would've had more games this season than Thorn. JS. You were happy having a go at Thorn's draws, haven't seen you moan at our 3 loses, which were in a worse manner!

Define much worse than relegation.
