Just to clarify they're not stopping them coming to the country but they need 10 day quarantine or a negatives test after 5.
A negative test prior to flying would probably be better

Was alegedely first recommended to the government in February last year, by March even Patel was calling for the borders to be closed with the press reporting she got slapped down by No 10. Even the Daily Mail seemed up for it, perhaps not a surprise they didn't want to let foreigners in! This is from the Mail of March 26th.
You're still allowed to go to your destination in the UK aren't you? They then expect you to quarantine once you get there, again how is that going to be enforced?

They should. But we are where we are. Over 3.5 million people now had their first jab so we're getting there. Just need to hang in for a few more months. Seems an age but it's not.
Nights will start getting lighter soon so that will help.

Immensely. Big problem atm is the only way to exercise is take some time out my day and go for a walk, which either doesn't go down well if there are meetings, or means every other bugger is doing the same in short days. Stay light until 9pm, and it's so much easier to stay / get fit, and everything looks so much better, anyway!
Oh, I must be pedantic and point out the nights are getting lighter already

Spoke to a friend who's a senior consultant in a London hospital yesterday.
She said nearly 30% of those currently hospitalised in London are under 55. A big increase to the percentage she said she was seeing earlier.
Aren’t you flouting the guidance by going in when you’re not required to?
Not trying to scare folk here but we must remember we have played hard and fast here with people's health,not having a clue about any consequences.
Having had pneumonia as a tot , I can say from experience I haven't been too greatly impacted apart from latter life.
I have though suffered a plethora of fairly regular infection through the course of a lifetime, some pretty rough.

My recollection was a bit different and as I’ve said before if anyone’s not seen it the lockdown doc on bbc is well worth a watch as it’s interviewing SAGE/Nervtag scientific advisors who admit some of the stuff they just got wrong (understandable in unprecedented times)
Bit long but this is interesting and details the advice around borders (even mentions Liverpool’s match/large live events at start of March) . There’s no doubt mistakes were made but by and large the government, rightly or wrongly appears to have followed the scientific advice at the time
The documentary supports that. Basically the view that if the virus is here it’s here (which was probably Dec/Jan). Closing borders totally, especially from certain European nations would slow the spread but a lot of the other stuff ie temp checks on arrival etc etc, don’t really have much benefit.
It sounds like stronger enforcement of quarantine etc at the time would’ve given NHS more time to prepare but not sure it would have eradicated/majorly suppressed the virus in the longer term, unless there are only relatively few numbers of cases here and you keep borders shut.In the early days the major challenge would be the vast numbers of U.K. nationals/residents returning from especially Europe which is hard to control/monitor, not stopping ‘foreigners’ coming here

The other half of a zero COVID strategy is a lockdown far tougher than we’ve ever had here for a month or two.
Having seen what I have I’m honestly not sure that’s possible here. Which...raises some questions.

For those that have had the jab, or have friends / relatives that have ... do you get any paperwork to say you've had a vaccine? I can imagine a stage where you can travel to other countries, or perhaps across tiers, if you can provide evidence.
I mean, fair play to you if that is all you’re doing.
But it sounds to a lot of people on here, from all your tales of supermarkets, running out for lunch etc, that you’re seeing and doing a lot more than that. Unless you really do have a supernatural ability to tell if the contents of people’s shopping bags from Screwfix are essential just from driving past in your car.
I’m not saying this to try and shame you or call you a liar or anything - more to point out how pointless it is to be harping on about everyone else breaking the rules when pretty much everyone bends the rules from time to time, and any one of us could be making things worse in the process.
