Sky saying he went home between tests. Assuming thats true then its inexcusable, that's not a simple misunderstanding or something minor, its deliberately breaking the rules.

Holding did make a good point. If they're supposed to be in a bubble why are the England squad arranging their own travel and not using a team bus?

Not going to be any play for a while today. First thing they said when the broadcast started was its wet and freezing cold. Groundstaff saying they'll need about 90 minutes to mop up once the umpires give the OK for play to start.

When you have limited tests and no crowd I can’t see a massive amount of benefit putting them in wet Manchester.

On Buttler if baffles me how he gets in the side he isn’t even a very good keeper, I would go back to Bairstow.

So WI win the toss and bowl I didn’t know that was in the rules I thought you always bat or is that just and English captain rule. I am sure Root would have said we will have a bat don’t worry about the sweaty pitch and over head conditions the pitch will break up on day five

Just highly likely to bat first due to better pitch. But if weather likely to be better later on and you could get swing with cloud cover early on might take advantage of it instead, esp if you lack spinners.

Obsession that a Gilchrist is in Buttler somewhere. Would like to have seen them look at Foakes again in a summer that doesn't seem to be offering easy runs. Thought he had a bit of a raw deal

Sibley batting like a Test opener should. Grind it out.

That’s the thing. Since the introduction of T20 we seem to have wanted test openers to hit run-a-ball 50s and the like. Good patient batting and accumulation is the answer.

Winds me up. The second innings was literally the scenario that Buttler was in for and he failed again. If he was the best keeper I’d make a case for him, but he’s not even the second best keeper in the 30 man squad.

re: Sibley I can’t believe the criticism he’s getting. I hate T20 for this. He’s batting perfectly for a test innings. Honestly think if he gets an offside game he’s the next Steve Smith. He’ll bat all day

Its noticeable that this innings seems really slow but in reality its a run rate that would have been a regular occurrence 15 years ago.

It’s probably a bit slower than average as I’d prefer to be closer to a strike rate of 50. However, if we can post a big first innings score then it gives the bowlers plenty to work with.

Good knock from Sibley.
Context is the way it was moving about this morning could easily have seen a collapse and lower order does need protecting.
Lot of near misses.

Surely they can give it a go now. Bowling doesn't look that dangerous and there's potentially a rain interrupted day tomorrow. They're in danger of not giving themselves enough time to bowl them out twice.
Still a pitch doing things. Turning, odd dodgy bounce. Still feel it's a Windies batting lineup that can fold with early wickets.

Good solid win that, good first innings and gained some quick runs in the second to have a real go at them. Thought we would run out of time but Broady still playing well when it counts

When we missed the follow on thought we'd blown it. Great performance today, apart from the one review we should have taken did pretty much everything right. Cracking catch to finish off as well.

Hope Stokes is OK. This is a hell of schedule to try and get him to play all the tests this summer. How long has he actually been off the field for in this test?

Looks to me like he's strained an abdominal muscle. Can imagine that really hurts bowling but he's trying to play through the pain. Don't want to lose him but might be better long term for him to rest it rather than play again in four days.

Could struggle to get a result in the last test. Rain forecast all day Saturday, Monday and until 2pm Tuesday. If that's correct there's only going to be 2.5 days play.

The big man is in for the West Indies. Been looking forward to seeing how Rahkeem Cornwall does in English conditions. Think he might surprise some people.

Sibley our not the best start, did they ask root what he would have done if he had won the toss

Woakes is a far better batsman than he currently looks, Broad is getting out of the way and having a heave could be an exciting few minutes or he will get out

500 Test wickets some achievement. A shame it's not in front of a packed house.
What are the odds of it being the same batsman as Jimmy's 500th - nearly 3 years earlier!!
